AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

Ask Labour 🤷‍♀️

Yes
I was referring to the pp on why the rest of us can’t protect our estates

and 🤷‍♀️?

Since they were introduced centuries ago people have had to pay
Each party in power could have got rid of it. None of them did

It’s not party specific but currently
if the poster I tagged wants an answer
she can

Ask Labour

I went to this! By accident. But it was very enjoyable. Good to see the king and his grandkids and Kate. The protesters got royally booed by the crowd!

You could boo all you like, what do you think it would actually achieve? I think you will find the answer is - nothing.

I wouldn’t be booing a family and their children like this

I’ll happily boo murderers though
Theres a huge difference

The Labour government are set on doing something 'specific':

It is committed to bringing forward legislation to reset the Sovereign Grant to a lower level from 2027-28 once Buckingham Palace reservicing works are completed

So the funds could soon be reduced for the first time.

Who would Charles pay taxes to? His Majesty's Revenue and Customs?

No they don’t hate everything British. The person I know who is a protestor loved her very posh boarding school, loved the trust fund from her Grandfather, loves all the money from Mummy and Daddy - so terribly British. She also loves looking swampy, the scarf she pretends makes her look like she is from Islamabad and her zero waste lifestyle. Except she has gas central heating, a petrol car and is constantly flying abroad on holiday darling!

Did you mean to post this to me or the person i was quoting

Ditching the monarchy would be a very expensive waste of time. The constitutional disruption would cost ££££ to reform, and the loss of soft power and tourism just doesn’t make it worth it. It would be like Brexit all over again, with no real benefits, a lot of spending and arguing over what was going to happen.

Leave the people who enjoy pomp to enjoy their pomp.

You sound like a 14 year old.

No, you sound in denial. Unless you get a kick out of being thought of as a peasant. We shan't judge you if so.

Obviously
Buckingham palace costs a lot to run
They are upgrading so it won’t cost so much
Once the works are completed they don’t need so much money because it won’t cost so much to run and they won’t have to pay for constant construction works

The total cost of the Buckingham Palace upgrade is £369 million. The 10-year reservicing programme—which runs from 2017 to 2027—is funded by a temporary increase in the Sovereign Grant, originating from the profits of the Crown Estate.
The extensive project focuses on critical infrastructure updates to prevent catastrophic building failures specifically

Im not sure there’s a point to make here. The grant was increased to do the works and after it will be reduced. Labour can’t be seen as the good guys for being the first ones to reduce it as there was an increase in the first place

Of note Mulberry

Labour weren't in power in 2017
This was a conservative agreement with the RF
