AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

Bore off.
This country has much bigger issues to worryabout right now.
Only massive twats behave like that when children are involved.
Rather have Trump? Putin????

Well it's a bit braver than booing from the safety of a crowd

Edited to say you're BU for putting this shit in AIBU instead of the RF board.

Edited

Most people on that board love the Royals, a few are very anti Royal. Placing it on AIBU gets the less extreme opinions so it’s better it’s here.

Would you accept people shouting abuse at your children? Why should she then ?

What abuse did they shout? The video I've seen just has them shouting 'Not My King'.

Have I missed something?

Cheese55 · Yesterday 12:02

whippersnapper55 · Yesterday 11:57

I think that they have to accept it's part of being in an institution that not everyone agrees with. They live lives of extraordinary privilege and I would imagine they can cope with a bit of booing. I think Katherine was watching them in case anyone made a move towards her and the children, or in anticipation of someone maybe throwing something, which is what any protective mother would do. But I don't actually think the protesters were doing anything wrong. We don't all have to bow and scrape to the royal family!

I think she relies on their security for that and will have been trained to not intervene in case she gets hurt. I think it's more likely she is used to being celebrated and was expecting universal cheers.

ThisIsMyUsername0 · Yesterday 12:02

I didn't see Kate glowering however if someone were to be shouting aggressively about my childrens family while they were passing, I'd do more than glower. Awful people to have acted like that. Poor kids.

RapunzelHadExtensions · Yesterday 12:06

Cheese55 · Yesterday 11:59

They don't know they are privileged as everyone they mix with will have the same as them, albeit more private wealth, but day to day their friends will be as rich as them.

Oh that's OK then, so long as they don't mingle with any povvos so they never realise how privileged they are 😂

Poppinpoppinpopcorn · Yesterday 12:08

I think there's a security risk for the Wales children. Theirs was the only carriage to have a line of policemen walking either side. None of the other carriages had it and it's never happened before. I think something's going on, plus I noticed George and Charlotte where a lot more subdued than normal

latetothefisting · Yesterday 12:09

Poppinpoppinpopcorn · Yesterday 11:17

I really don't think the children benefit at all. Their lives are all mapped out before they are even born. They don't get any real choices about their life. Everyone knows who they are, they have no freedom, every day life is mapped out with security they carnt just decide for example to visit a friends house. I wouldn't want to wish being born royal on any child.

I think this is a bit OTT. Most young kids these days don't just 'decide to visit' a friends' house, their parents arrange playdates - exactly the same as the royal kids.

You could say the same about kids born into poverty, for example, many of whom don't get the opportunity to travel or learn an instrument or participate in everything they'd like to do. Even 'average' kids can't afford to do expensive hobbies like sailing, racing, etc.

The RF can do anything they want. They could choose to study abroad if they wanted more anonymity, and when they are older they could even choose to do a Harry and opt out completely if they wanted.

Other than George, the other two could have very normal, albeit financially comfortable lives - realistically would your average person on the street know the names of Princess Margaret's kids and grandkids, or even Prince Edward's kids? That's the level Charlotte and Louis' families will be in thirty years.

I personally would prefer there to not being a monarchy but my view of booing at TtC is the same as anything else - event/TV show/band - if you're not interested in it, don't go! Going just to piss on the chips of everyone around you by telling them how rubbish the thing they like is and how much of a moral superior being with better taste you are for not liking it is just a bit pathetic, more so when you bring kids into it.

Yes they will stay away from the likes of us.

Kate just looked confused 😁 do think they are significantly thinning out the.monarchy and think this is the way to.go rather than deleting years of history.

That coach they were in was silly though a.nice open top car would have been better.

The.anti monarchists are a small minority and a.bit silly.

This is why I think the European “economy” versions of the monarchy are so much better than our “luxury” version involving hundreds of hangers on and thousands of grace and favour homes. All the monarch’s children other than the heir are brought up in the expectation of earning their own living, and I think even the King of the Netherlands worked for KLM as a pilot before acceding to the throne.

He still does and is very grounded as a person!

No, it isn't acceptable, especially at 3 young children.

If those doing it don't like the monarchy, there are plenty of other ways they could have spent their Saturday afternoon than going to see them.

PistachioTiramisu · Yesterday 12:15

The monarchy is NOT a 'rotten institution' - you really shouldn't let your jealousy cloud your thoughts. I think they are great, and Saturday's parade just showed how good this country is at pageantry and events like these. Just look at how few people were 'protesting' compared with the huge, cheering crowds approaching Buckingham Palace!

Literally no one is jealous, they are annoyed by the monarchy being outdated, old fashioned and unelected . And no they dont bring in money, no one is going to stop visiting Buckingham Palace etc etc.

soddingspiderseason · Yesterday 12:20

It’s incredibly bad to boo at children. And why? What is it that Kate and her kids have done that deserves booing? Given her battle with cancer, I think its crass and undeserved, and I’m appalled that people behave like this. She’s not a politician and has no real power so what exactly is the point?

renovationqueen · Yesterday 12:20

I find it strange to go to an event like that just to boo at someone. I don't agree with footballers salaries doesn't mean I stand outside stadiums booing at them.

Isitevensummer · Yesterday 12:28

I am sure it's upsetting as a mother to see this around her children. But this is an institution who cynically use children and family events to distract from other wrong doing. So that's on them. I don't think growing up royal or being in training is fair or healthy for the children, despite their privileges. And the idea that people are entitled to the wealth they derive from public support is abhorrent. The RF needs more scrutiny, not more forelock tugging and obedience.

Thankfully with each generation that statistic is changing and more are in favour of abolishing them

Nothing silly about not wanting to bankroll a bunch of entitled old parasites or pretend theres anything interesting about them.

Everything silly about feeling its appropriate to bow to anyone, let alone those old thick inbred pretend celebs, because of who they were supposedly born as.

Rachie1973 · Yesterday 12:32

I enjoy the royal family. The whole going out to boo seems a bit odd to me.

Anyone shouting not my King/Prime Minister has never mentally grown. I hardly think these clowns are the people to scrutnise - from the safety of crowds. All they had to do was vote with their feet but that wouldn't be attention seeking enough. Instead, they coose to boo and jeer in front of children. Classy.

There are not thousands of grave and favour homes. Nor are there hundreds of hangers on.

There are 11 working royals who have access to properties which are owned and managed by the crown estate, which has to balance its own budget. It contributed £1.1 billion in profit to the treasury in 2024. Of this, around £87 million goes back to the sovereign.

There are a handful of non working royals who still have property. The most recent reports noted that Beatrice and Eugenie have access to a property, I assume the outcry means this incredibly minor effect on the budget will be stripped from them, because of course punishing them for their father’s heinous acts is the right thing to do. The other non working royals in paid for apartments are close relatives of the late Queen, themselves in their 80s and 90s, but I suppose you want them evicted to save a few quid?

I'm sure the kids don't give a flying fuck and probably laugh about it over their banquet that evening, ripping the shit out of the disgusting peasants who dare look upon them.

No benefit at all. They get shipped off to b school as teenagers, albeit not as young as they used to but its no life.

Sorry?

They live lives of luxury. No problems, ever. All the money in the world. They’ll inherit literal billions.

I’d say it’s more classy than protecting pedophile brothers and uncles!
