What is going on with Brooklyn/Harper Beckham?

AIBU to feel sorry for Harper? If BB has an issue with his parents it shouldn’t mean that he also stops talking to his siblings. It’s equally as sad if the parents did choreographed the letter/visit.

Have a DD similar age (Y9, I think Harper might be Y10?) and just cannot fathom how harper can possibly manage at school when she seems to be a part-time student!! Academically OR socially! You’d just miss so much! Sure I get it’s almost the end of term but there seem to be so many occasions throughout the year when suddenly there are pics of her in Paris for the day or whatnot and I just always think, but what about your Chemistry homework…

I know she doesn’t have to get a proper job but that’s really not the point.

D&V just don’t value education. He apparently went to football academy straight from school and had no other ambitions aside from being a footballer, and she has boasted that she’s never read a book all the way through. It’s a shame though that they are just pushing Harper down the family business route and not allowing her to widen her sphere of influence. I just don’t get it, most people want their kids to do as well as they possibly can and the only thing she should be doing at her age is learning and having fun. In the real world, if you took your kid out of school whenever you felt like it you’d have fines and social services to deal with, but wealth and privilege smooth the way for these bellends.

The weird thing is I’ve never had an opinion on the Beckham family until this. I couldn’t care less and see it as family stuff for them to sort out. My only “opinion” as such was that Victoria Beckham was a hugely, hugely overrated as a dress designer. First the utterly dull office-type clothes and now the repetitive nightie dresses.

But dressing her daughter in the Lolita thing age 14 for a formal public occasion was beyond tacky. It was clearly a very “knowing” choice of outfit - and designed to provoke - both sexually and in terms of publicity. Awful. I never want to see or read about them again.

One can only hope they travel with a tutor so she can keep up

LA is full of high net people’s children, and most of them are a lot richer than the Beckhams. The kids just live their lives, no one’s kidnapping them.

Beckham family PR out in force now, last night and overnight. They’ve got Piers Morgan on board for some reason. I’m not sure Piers has read this one right tbh.

I guess the negative reaction to the Beckham family’s cynical stunt using their child must have them reaching for the usual PR levers of ‘attack, play the victims, exploit the kids, deny’.

I mean Brooklyn has made a big error of judgement imho with this latest DoorDash commercial. He is obviously throwing shade at his family, with the little stash of unopened mail and the watch on the table. Why pick those specific props unless you were stirring the pot? And of course the main message of "why am I watching the world cup from home". Hmmm, I wonder?

Why do this? He wants privacy, he'c complained about his parents pimping him out for Brand Beckham. But here he is pimping himself out as part of Brand Beckham. Couldn't make it up. He can't need the money, his wife is loaded due to her parents.

Probably. And I can understand the need to be independent. The other 2 boys are very enmeshed with their parents in a way which is unusual for people that age. My dd is is a similar age and would stick pins in her eyes rather than trail around after me like that. But I guess money at that level is almost like a golden handcuffs.

But while he may have wanted independence iirc in that lengthy post he put online he talked about his upset that everything was about Brand Beckham and deals. He may not have specifically said he wanted privacy, I probably just assumed it from that comment. Maybe he is happy with Brand Brooklyn Beckham and deals as long as he has independence and control.

I totally get what he means. Being an adult and making your own business decisions is totally different from being a child whose needs get constantly put last at the expense of a brand. In my view, a lack of education and not venturing out into the world is all part of the control by the parents. It keeps the adult children dependent on them, emotionally and financially. Instead of preparing their kids for life and the world they just used them for their own gain.

If BB has a decent therapist he soon won't care anymore what anyone thinks.

VB PR this morning just confirms what I thought. They are narcissistic and follow a script I know too well. I wonder who the golden child is and who the scapegoat is amongst the other kids now. Harper seems way too anxious to be the golden child. She gets moulded and is still trying to resist (e.g. DB kissing her on the forehead). It does her great harm. I feel very sorry for her.

He doesn't seem to have had chance or been encouraged to pursue anything long term though.

To see his family for who they are, go NC and try and make a living for himself means he isn't thick. It takes a lot to be able to do that. He probably has developmental deficits like children from narcissistic households tend to have and he may have left the family not really knowing who he is or what he is good at, but he sure isn't thick.

I've always thought - from afar obviously - Brooklyn looked like a sensitive child and a bit overwhelmed in a lot of the circumstances he ended up in. That's why I thought all the negativity around his photography etc was pretty cruel.

The other two boys look much more relaxed about it all...

But I do realise we all make mistakes to some degree as parents and I suppose their circumstances upped the stakes on that front. There were plenty of people and pressures helping them make those mistakes.

I do wonder if he's simply fallen into another dysfunctional family set up. It's not as if he knows what a normal family looks like.

The pressures are obviously different, but not necessarily less. He couldn't really have won with the photography: if people had liked it, it would have been nepotism got him there, and if they didn't, well, still nepotism but with added derision.

Other side of the coin: he has had privileges a lot of people don't have, we all have challenges to navigate, and he is just going to have to find a way of reconciling the rough with the smooth. People should stand back and let him do so.

It is quite common that it is the sensitive children whose nervous system simply cannot cope with the dysfunction and they are having to remove themselves to survive. Literally.

Absolutely. If you realise as a child of any age that your parents don't actually want to know you, mould you, don't listen and don't take your needs into account it is absolutely devastating whether they have money or not. The damage to a child's brain will be the same.

Agree, the most shocking thing in all this is that she seems to have been away from school for quite a while.
