This shambolic government - its utter chaos, the Tories were bad but Christ this lot are on another level.
Im really worried about where we’re heading, riots breaking out everywhere, the armed forces imploding, the police untrustworthy, we’re a laughing stock on the international stage.
Id say to call an early GE but I’m not a fan or reform either. At this point - I’d take the Tories back.
WTF is going on? I’m approaching 50 and I’ve never known the country in such a state.

AIBU to think we’re literally on the edge now? And what can actually be done to save it??

I am prone to anxiety so feel free to tell me on catastrophising

Every celebrity deserves to be shamed, wtf?!
They exercised their democratic rights to vote as they wished and should never be shamed for that.

Those same celebs are the ones who shame others for exercising THEIR democratic vote. The cancel culture brigade are looking rather stupid now.

@IllTakeACheapSeatPleaseLabour didn’t plan and now isn’t nimble in government. They have reviewed defence budgets and requirements but, as usual, won’t make the hard decisions about cutting other budgets and reform of benefits and services. They are a shambles and Burnham won’t be any better as he’s out of the loop. Their ideas about more defence spending have no foundation as there’s no money.

Many people believe they need to stimulate growth in the economy but all they do is tax and spend. It’s killing business, driving investors away and everyone feels poor.

Recruitment into the police is down to the police and they do need to up their game. We aren’t on an edge in my view but those in the cheap seats are bearing the brunt of thugs. Home grown thugs who lurk just under the surface in some cities. We don’t need a GE just yet but do when Burnham fails and has robbed us of yet more money to spend on backbencher pet projects and millions not working.

MyTrivia · 11/06/2026 20:56

You would take the Tories back? They did absolutely nothing for ordinary people. They wasted money on vanity projects and stripped public services to the bone. At least the new government is trying to fund things again and investing in children. They certainly aren’t perfect but the Tories couldn’t be worse imo.

What, with a bit of soggy toast and bowl of cornflakes

Fluffyowl00 · 11/06/2026 20:58

You think it’s worse than Cameron and Brexit, Boris go out/stay in (we’re having a party whilst your family members die alone). Liz Truss? The other 17 Tory PMs I’ve forgotten the names of already as it was a revolving door of PMs. I mean, things ain’t great but I feel they’ve still got a way to go yet.

Cound not disagree more. Interested to hear precisely why this government is so much more of a disaster than the last one? There are some very short memories.

Sunak was significantly better than Starmer.

(Not Truss or Johnson though. May was essentially a hostage).

This makes zero sense - who are all these celebrities!?

Lonelycrab · 11/06/2026 21:00

The country surely deserves its moon on a stick! Where is it?!?

Honeyhonay · 11/06/2026 21:00

Nothing is on the edge. The riots started in NI which can rarely be attributed to who is in charge in Westminster.
The attacker who sparked this all off was granted the right to stay under the conservatives, I don’t see how what’s currently playing out would be any different if they were still in power over the last 2 years.

Dabralor · 11/06/2026 21:02

Frankly, anyone who fails to draw a line between what we see now and over a decade of Tory austerity plus the effects of brexit, climate change and war in Ukraine and Iran is either being deliberately disingenuous or are just ignorant.

Just wait, when Starmer’s replacement is compelled to reduce the welfare budget - it will come.

dannyufcfan · 11/06/2026 21:03

Don't watch the news. Only misery will come your way.

The Government is struggling for various reasons. However, you're nuts if you don't think a huge factor is due the chaos they took over. People have short memories.

And in this country, a lot of people's (and the majority of the mainstream media) hearts and minds will always naturally lean tory (yuk).

herigoagain · 11/06/2026 21:03

Yeah agreed it’s dire. No leadership or quality politicians, added to a tumultuous international picture. I’ve lived through Tories and Labour. I fear for my kids too.

Stick around, there might be another resignation tonight.

They exercised their democratic rights to vote as they wished and should never be shamed for that.

They didn’t just exercise their democratic right to vote though, many used their considerable platforms to lend weight and popularity to the Labour campaign.

Unfortunately as some gullible people get swayed by that do they hold some responsibility for this disastrous government.

GeneralPeter · 11/06/2026 21:08

Dabralor · 11/06/2026 21:02

Frankly, anyone who fails to draw a line between what we see now and over a decade of Tory austerity plus the effects of brexit, climate change and war in Ukraine and Iran is either being deliberately disingenuous or are just ignorant.

I can agree with most of that. Also the triple lock, welfare spending, immigration policy, energy prices (ie the way we do net zero), planning policy, and demographics.

The problem is that Starmer came in promising to prioritise economic growth and then turned around and became another tax and spend PM. And not even a politically competent one.

RaininSummer · 11/06/2026 21:13

Yep. The last time it was this bad was in the seventies.

BruceGrobbelaar · 11/06/2026 21:14

Surely, Reeves is at risk.

She’s not looked happy recently, and if reports of the stand-up row with Healey are accurate….

Starmer would happily axe her if it meant saving his skin, even temporarily.

H202too · 11/06/2026 21:14

BruceGrobbelaar · 11/06/2026 20:51

I am with you OP - this government have been the most disastrous in my memory, at least.

And the chaos is far from over.

I mean did you read the lost of Boris Johnsons epic misdemeanours.
