What popular places are overrated?

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

And there is absolutely nothing else around there.

In the 'field of miracles' which contains the leaning tower is also the cathedral where you can sit where Galileo sat and looked up at the lamp oscillating and worked out his theories around the planets, and next door is the largest baptistery in the world. The whole place can get crowded, but the history is stunning.

Lol, I agree. Last time we went there the narrow streets were so rammed you were forced to walk in one direction, turning round to walk the other way would’ve caused chaos 😂😂

I also hate all that semi-arty beach theme tat the shops sell - hundreds upon hundreds of wind chimes and driftwood "Home is where the heart is" signs and craft style metal thingys to stick on your ... I dunno, external house walls or something.

Greggs. Particularly their mediocre, luke warm at best sausage rolls. Some of their sandwiches are ok but not worth going out of my way for. I really don’t know what the hype is about their sausage rolls though, I’ve never had a good one.

Edited

Add in their steak bakes. Either burn your mouth off or are not really hot enough and therefore slightly worrying to eat.

Disney in Florida. Too many people and everything is overpriced. Queuing for hours for a five-minute ride. The kids enjoyed the parks for a few hours but preferred to stay in the hotel pool. The heat is also unbearable when you're menopausal.

All of it?

Pretty much.

Lake Como is nice(ish). Still ridiculously hard to get into the water without paying to go on a private pontoon. See also Sorrento. Really pisses me off.

It comes in shipping containers from China. Most the giftshops in Cornwall are full of the same shit.

St Ives.
Saved our visit till the last day.
I think we spent less than an hour there.

Padstow is even worse.

The U.K.?

It’s seen as a dream destination for so many immigrants but I feel sorry for them when they must realise how cold, expensive and unwelcoming it is.

So pleased that they're not too discouraged then, they seem to be dying to come to such an awful place.

They really are.

And because the word "art" and "local" gets bandied about on shop signs and windows etc about such a lot, you feel unappreciative for thinking "load of tat."

Another vote for Paris.

I know it's almost become super cool to hate on Paris in the same way as Dubai, and whilst there were elements of Paris I enjoyed - I can hand on heart say it's not in my top 20 European cities.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Smaller than expected.

Ditto the Little Mermaid in Copengahen, we walked around looking for it for ages then decided to go and see what a small crowd were looking down at!

I love it as well, it ticks so many boxes!

It's expensive but so nice to have no cars to worry about and just a family atmosphere.

Have you tried CP Europe too? We usually go to Woburn but also De Kempervennen in the Netherlands. Feb half term is usually around $300-400 for a 4 person lodge in Feb half term. Chalets are more tired but they have an indoor ski slope and a theme park fairly close.

We're planning on trying the one in Paris next year - it's literally next door to EuroDisney too!

I’ll get pelted for this one… I thought Venice was underwhelming, overcrowded and overhyped.

I haven't like Woburn, but prefer Longleat.

Just feels more "forresty"

I’ve never “got” London (and I say this as someone who adored places like New York). It’s busy, dirty, most people I have encountered there are rude. I don’t have much interest in the attractions there other than the ones I’ve already done, so I never want to rush back. I also find anything that is nice suddenly becomes popular and is then impossible to visit without booking ages in advance or queuing for years.

i wish that there were some shows etc that toured more than kept to London as I just really don’t want to go! For example I’d love to see Harry Styles but can’t justify all the travel to go somewhere I don’t like and to fight to leave Wembley etc

(also I’m a 3hr train journey away and it costs so much in rail travel that’s another thing to put me off!)

It is parts like Richmond or the Westbourne Grove shopping/cafe stretch in Notting Hill, or Hampstead Heath, or Holland park that are the things that make London lovely.

Not really much appeal in central London at all imo.

Paris

Pretty much all the chain food places - We will go to Five Guys or Wagamama's very occassionally but we are well supplied with good indie restaurants & I much prefer those.

Starbucks/Costa - bland - no thanks.

I think this thread is showing, people have very different opinions.

What was it you preferred that its easier to navigate?

It was cleaner, less crowded, the castle is way better and I just hate american customer service, its so false and cringey. Its also not as hot (which is hell on earth with kids and waiting around) and better located to extend the trip into europe for something a bit more cultural afterwards.

Longleat is lovely but a real trek for us. The trees at Woburn are finally starting to come in so it is feeling more foresty but i see what you mean.

See I think Florida is way cleaner, plus in Paris half the park seem to have a fag on the go - and it isn't enforced at all.
