John Lewis pushing this advert on my social media. Do they support oppression of women or is this a symbol of women’s right to choose .

She started a relationship with a Muslim man about a year after she converted, who she subsequently married. He played no part in her decision to convert - she wasn’t in a relationship at the time and hadn’t even met her husband.

Oh yes right got it. Querying why women need to or are often forced to dress like this makes one a Farage supporter. And you're lambasting lack of critical thought.

alot of muslim women choose to dress like this and some don't!! How many muslim women have you asked??

That was a typo - it should have said that she converted to Islam about 18 months BEFORE not ago.

You might benefit from some study of world religion if you really believe that.

No nearly as depressing as the scrunch bum legging, or the microskirt/arse out look so beloved of young women.

so It seems I’m wrong and these full length outfits are not symbolic of women’s oppression ( described by Muslim cleric men as Devine instructions) but according to Mumsnet are actually a sign of women’s liberation versus the mini skirt . Well there you go.

I had something similar pop up on mine. It must be a new set of marketing ads. I just scrolled past.

Ha ha ha ha 😝

It’s ALWAYS for a man.

If women wanted men to change everything about themselves, which included changing their faith and wearing a tent instead of clothes, they simply wouldn’t accept it. But women (some) will do anything to snag a man. Low self esteem I would imagine. Strong women wouldn’t do this.

How dare you accuse her of lying just because you’re so determined to have your own way?

But when a strong woman is telling you I chose to cover myself for my own reasons no man involved you choose to ignore the reply and find a post that you can attack. You have my sympathies. I wonder what your life is really like behind the screen.

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 19:03

I had to go looking for it. It comes in lots of colours, not just black. This is a pretty colour

Just randomly? , well i have been looking at dresses for a wedding and I can't say it came up on my adverts from JL

It has come up on mine as well. I have no reason for it to come up at all, I've not been searching clothes at all, but homewares as we're renovating.

There’s one for men too, also comes in a range of colours (thobes).

If she really is doing it out of free choice, then she's the one upholding deeply sexist standards. It doesn't make it any better.
