AIBU to wonder how we spent so much doing nothing?

We were all exhausted this weekend, and literally didn't move further than 1 mile from our house.

How is it possible to spend so much money going nowhere and doing nothing?

That's £421, or £211 if you don't count groceries or toiletries.

It is mainly consumables though. Takeaways used to be cheaper, I'm sure!

Terrible, look fantastic - taste awful.

Krispy Kreme (which are also on too good to go) much better at half the price.

Fucking hell, Krispy Kreme are expensive enough as it is.

I'm glad I have cheap tastes and feel like I am pushing the boat out when I buy M&S jam donuts instead of from Morrisons.

We could, but we were all exhausted this weekend.

Is eating at home more tiring than eating out?

Swimming wasn't included, swimming club is a monthly DD.

No, the poster meant that you seem to view a weekend of activities (swimming, brunch, going for coffee) as nothing of ‘consequence’. Whereas for most people, it’s quite a lot. As I’m sure you know.

I don't think any of us could be arsed to cook.

It's still something that was done on the weekend.
You're saying you did "nothing".

Again I didn't mean literally nothing!

@coulditbeme2323 so what is something that you consider "of consequence" ?

Barney16 · Yesterday 11:23

I have realised that the only way not to spend any money is to never leave my house. Literally stay at home. And not touch a device 🙂

Needmorelego · Yesterday 11:24

@coulditbeme2323 I don't think you know the meaning of "nothing" 😂

What I meant was a weekend doing nothing other than the essentials and a staying locally.

There was no real event or treat in there.

I think your idea of doing nothing and mine are different.

Wow.
An expensive brunch, takeaways.and new books aren't a treat ????
😂😂😂😂
Oh I wish I had your life of "nothing".

its2025 · Yesterday 11:27

Whilst I do totally understand where you're coming from @coulditbeme2323 it is very easy to spend money - particularly as you appear to have the disposable income to be able to afford things like bread from Gail's and £50 on breakfast out - because you couldn't be arsed to cook.

However - what would probably be helpful for you to understand - is that its also fairly easy to NOT spend that money.

Take coffee with you in a thermal cup when you go to swimming, Bake your own bread - or buy Tesco finest and that'll save you a few quid. If you can't be bothered with cooking/preparing breakfast - eat a bowl of cereal.

I think that’s why people are struggling to engage with this thread… most people would see a £50 brunch out as a ‘treat’.

I think between 500-600 doing absolutely nothing!

You should be pretty worried if you've spent 500-600 pounds in a weekend on stuff like 'coffees'.

Quite obviously you do know quite well what the money has gone on, at 500 quid thats not a couple of takeout coffees while walking the dog, you've obviously bought a few expensive takeaways or something.

What you are really posting about is your own shock at how thoughtless you've been spending money this weekend without really keeping track of it.

Sorry if people are really that interested, but I promise you it's very dull.

And I am going to round up for ease.

Saturday morning £4 coffee while youngest two had swimming club.
Saturday ordered Tesco's £180 for Sunday (can't really count that)
Saturday £30 at Boots on shower gels, toothpaste etc.
Saturday Butchers £45 on chicken breasts and burgers
Saturday evening Chinese takeaway for 2 adults and 3 kids £70

Sunday £10 on coffee x2 with husband
Sunday £5 3 Famous Five Books from charity shop
Sunday £4 Sourdough from Gails
Sunday Brunch hubby only at Bills £50
Too good to go Rodeo donuts £8
Chopping Boards TK Max £15

I told you it was dull!

So, £180 on groceries. Another £30 on groceries (that's how I class shower gel and toothpaste) at Boots. Another £45 on groceries at the butcher (£45 on chicken and burgers, wow).

Hubby's brunch £50 - that's significant and would be a huge treat, not 'nothing'

Takeaway £70, again a significant expense and a treat, not 'nothing'

£14 on coffees - take your own or just don't buy them

£12 on sourdough and donuts, again don't bother

Pocket money for charity shop books and chopping boards.

You've got no idea op, really....

I don't think any of us could be arsed to cook.

Being cooked for when you’re tired oit is a wonderful thing, isnt it. Unfortunately I don’t think much of takeaways these days and I don’t have a love of sitting at tables in public spots on a weekend if I’m tired out. I’ve actually become reliant on my freezer, for storing portions of home cooked meals I really like. Then we can have a really nice meal… without any cooking.
Ive also realised I’m very very happy to eat smoked salmon and scrambled eggs at home, and that takes 3 minutes to prepare. The funny thing is, you can buy coffee in cartons now, and have them delivered with your shopping… so you can factor in a knackered Saturday brunch at home, if you order lazy coffee like this, eggs and salmon.. it’s not as cheap as weetabix but it’s cheaper than Bills, you get to play your own music, put your feet up, and talk to your cat. Nicer, imho, than going out somewhere mid level. Add in your almond croissants and you’re golden!

JohnnyFedora · Yesterday 11:31

coulditbeme2323 · Yesterday 10:49

I did - but my point was nothing of consequence.

My only real point is that it's super easy to spend on a weekend you stay within a few minutes of home, and don't do anything of any real note.

you went out for brunch, kids went swimming, went to the shops more than once, had a takeaway, went out for coffee (twice), expensive doughnuts, did the weekly shop ...

Seems like you did plenty to me.... more than we did

JohnnyFedora · Yesterday 11:34

I can't understand why you had £8 doughnuts - and then complain about having spent loads of money ...:/

You had loads convenience eats and drinks - coffees, doughnuts, brunch out, takeway....

When I'm too lazy/tired to cook, it's beans on toast with fried eggs on top if people want them :D

frozendaisy · Yesterday 11:37

We used to go for a walk in the woods and it cost £30!

Kitchenbattle · Yesterday 11:37

I’m in Berlin since Saturday morning and I haven’t spent that much @coulditbeme2323 and I’ve bought gifts, eaten out etc!

DiscoCherries · Yesterday 11:37

OP can you afford it? If so, I hope you had a great lazy weekend! Nothing wrong with coffee, brunch, takeaway if it’s all in your budget.

how is brunch out or takeaway not a treat?

That's two meals in one weekend - we go out for maybe two meals in a month

Confused
