AIBU to wonder how we spent so much doing nothing?

We were all exhausted this weekend, and literally didn't move further than 1 mile from our house.

How is it possible to spend so much money going nowhere and doing nothing?

I don't think anybody is massively interested in what we spent, I think my point was more that you can spend doing nothing and have nothing to show for it!

Yes we are! What did you do to spend money. Putting the kettle on doesn't count.

TheWineoftheChicken · Yesterday 10:18

I’ve never spent £500-£600 on a weekend where we did very little, so I can’t answer the question in your OP! Personally, I have no idea how you spent so much money going nowhere and doing nothing.
£600 is what DH and I spent on a weekend away last weekend, including all meals out, quite a lot of drinks out, a bit of clothes shopping… so yeah, im stumped about your situation too!

Decacaffeinatednow · Yesterday 10:20

So what did you spend the other £320 on? More online shopping?

Tocsin · Yesterday 10:20

I’m out - threads don’t work if the OP is dropping breadcrumbs …

😂

It's becoming obvious to me it's a case of I am soo well off money just drips out of my account! It's quite entertaining really.

PunnyLurker · Yesterday 10:26

I spend 5 minutes on this thread and I have nothing to show for it. How is this possible? AIBU?

I agree. One of those threads where OP is deliberately being vague and dropping gobbets of info here and there to try to make people guess.

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 10:27

Are you doing to drip feed that your £3/400 after grocery shopping included purchase of the coffee machine that made all these coffees?

If you didn't go more than one mile from home, why didn't you just have coffee at home or take it with you?

Those purchases were a conscious choice. Did you not stop and think 'these things cost money'? I'm never ceased to be amazed at all the people who've clearly got so used to endlessly spending without thinking that they can do it to this degree and spend hundreds of pounds without realising.

MegJoBethandAmytoo · Yesterday 10:27

Ridiculous thread. Either structure properly and provide the relevant detail or don't bother at all.

coulditbeme2323 · Yesterday 10:28

Sorry if people are really that interested, but I promise you it's very dull.

And I am going to round up for ease.

Saturday morning £4 coffee while youngest two had swimming club.
Saturday ordered Tesco's £180 for Sunday (can't really count that)
Saturday £30 at Boots on shower gels, toothpaste etc.
Saturday Butchers £45 on chicken breasts and burgers
Saturday evening Chinese takeaway for 2 adults and 3 kids £70

Sunday £10 on coffee x2 with husband
Sunday £5 3 Famous Five Books from charity shop
Sunday £4 Sourdough from Gails
Sunday Brunch hubby only at Bills £50
Too good to go Rodeo donuts £8
Chopping Boards TK Max £15

I told you it was dull!

I think between 500-600 doing absolutely nothing!

Did ye aye

Lomonald · Yesterday 10:30

coulditbeme2323 · Yesterday 09:59

I mean when I say nothing I don't mean literally nothing, but nothing of any real note.

Didn't even get in the car!

What did you buy? I mean sitting in the house maybe a bit bored it is easy to just spend money online, im surprised you are surprised at this.

Getmeacoffeenow · Yesterday 10:30

Did you spend it at the dentist cause this thread is like pulling fucking teeth.

Needmorelego · Yesterday 10:30

@coulditbeme2323 that's not doing "nothing" though.
Sounds like a normal weekend to me.
Swimming, shopping, charity shops, going to brunch.....

This is a weird thread. Why would you be surprised that you spent money when you... spent money? You did the big shop, a butcher haul, you had two takeaway/restaurant meals, you bought some new books and chopping boards. I don't see how never getting in the car is relevant. Are prices supposed to go down when you are close to home or something?

Well that is going out what are you.on about you had a "weekend" doing things and spending money.

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 10:32

So you bought a lot of groceries, household supplies, had a takeaway, DC activity, went 'shopping' (wander round charity shop etc?), DH had a spendy breakfast - was that a special social activity? Hardly nothing is it?

But that's only £430 at most, what did the other £50-150 go on?

PenelopePinkerton · Yesterday 10:32

£50 for brunch is outrageous.

Bristolandlazy · Yesterday 10:32

I had a quiet weekend and spent about twenty pounds in Lidl. You have answered your own question, you spent lots of money on lots of stuff. Mystery solved.

That’s not doing nothing though, it’s spending in the hospitality industry on eating in and out. And it’s shopping which is never free unless you’re a tea leaf.

Indianajet · Yesterday 10:33

Well of course you did something! You know exactly where the money went - and who on earth spends £50 on brunch for one person? Did I understand that right?
