AIBU to wonder how we spent so much doing nothing?

We were all exhausted this weekend, and literally didn't move further than 1 mile from our house.

How is it possible to spend so much money going nowhere and doing nothing?

I can't understand why you had £8 doughnuts - and then complain about having spent loads of money ...:/

You had loads convenience eats and drinks - coffees, doughnuts, brunch out, takeway....

When I'm too lazy/tired to cook, it's beans on toast with fried eggs on top if people want them :D

Edited

Beans on toast is one of my favourite things. Being knackered, and realising it’s a beans on toast situation, is a great moment. With a big mug of tea. Ahhhh… heaven.

God this thread is annoying.

What point is the OP trying to make? You went to the shops, restaurant,
did an online food shop and had a takeaway. Yet you’re surprised you spent money?

and making out like going out for Brunch and having takeways is "essential" and not a treat

Kitchenbattle · Yesterday 11:40

Also why did you spend 180 on food and then eat out all weekend 😅

Selkie33 · Yesterday 11:40

@coulditbeme2323 having nothing to show for it except 3 Enid Blyton!!! 😱 is a shocker 'tis troo, especially as she is no longer pc.

You have become undone ma hen when you said "There was no real event or treat in there" not strictly true, really.😊

Flamingojune · Yesterday 11:40

Eating out with your dh is not nothing

Because we need food for the week, obviously!

And it didn't arrive until Sunday evening.

You spent £23 on water?????
Don’t you have a tap?

I have a tap, and the water that comes out of it is terrible. Sparks regular conversations on our local FB page.

I did - but my point was nothing of consequence.

My only real point is that it's super easy to spend on a weekend you stay within a few minutes of home, and don't do anything of any real note.

You could always move to a less well connected area, where everywhere is a car ride away then Bill's, Gail's and everywhere else feel like a trip out and you probably won't be able to get a takeaway delivered or be near a TGTG place so those won't be options.

TheWineoftheChicken · Yesterday 11:42

We had a fairly quiet weekend, so I thought I’d add up what we spent as a comparison. Saturday was mainly spent ferrying kids round to clubs/picking up from sleepovers/bit of gardening etc. We spent £20.50 in Sainsbury's, which was a bottle of wine, a couple of their ‘Something Special’ range pizzas and some crisps and dips as no one could be arsed to cook. Sunday we dropped eldest at an all day drama rehearsal and middle child at a friend’s house then took the train obsessed youngest on a train to the nearest city. £15.50 return train fare, then when we got there we went to a cafe and spent £27 on lunch for the 3 of us. Had a wander round the city walls, bought the youngest a colouring book and some pens in The Works (£4), then got the train home. Picked up the other kids then home for homework/music practice etc.
£67 and a pleasant, chilled weekend!

ETA oops, missed off the £4.50 parking at the train station.

Enid Blyton is great!

🤣 this generation deserves better, don't you think? 😉

Heylittlesongbird · Yesterday 11:44

On Saturday you:
Took the children swimming.

Went out to Boots and the butchers and the candlestick makers for all I know.
Went out / had delivered a chinese takeaway.

On Sunday you:
Went for coffee
Went round the shops and the bakers
Went out to eat brunch
Went out to get a too good to go deal

If I was exhausted I wouldn't have done that. I'd have stayed at home, read a book etc and coincidentally (or not) have spent no money. I'd find the effort of getting ready to go out for brunch harder than popping a slice of toast in the toaster or pouring cereal into a bowl. To me it sounds like quite a busy yet unproductive in and out weekend and not at all restful.

CaptainBeefheartspal · Yesterday 11:44

Yes, I agree with you. It’s so easy to just potter locally and, before you know it, £100 is gone.

Dweetfidilove · Yesterday 11:45

BringBackCatsEyes · Yesterday 11:14

I think she means she went in for water and came out with all sorts of other stuff as well.

You're right.
4 * 6 packs of water (1l and 1.5l)
1*15 pack of diet coke.
1 packet of sour patch kids

Went in for water and came out with these. Still, £23 was just too much. Stuff's just so darn expensive.

TheWineoftheChicken · Yesterday 11:45

I am not moving!!

But if you had to drive to Bill’s and Gail’s, all your problems would be solved as going there would be considered a ‘trip out’! 😁

BringBackCatsEyes · Yesterday 11:45

We used to go for a walk in the woods and it cost £30!

Well you need to explain why.
It is very possible to walk in the woods for free.

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 11:46

coulditbeme2323 · Yesterday 11:43

I am not moving!!

But surely you can see that if you live close to Bill's, Gail's and everywhere else doesn't make it less of a treat to go there? The act of having a brunch out is the treat, not that you can walk there, in fact, I would consider it more of a treat to be able to walk to such places from home because it would mean that I live in the sort of area where they exist, ie affluent urban areas and naice suburbs, if the sorts of places where the stamp duty to buy is £300k, so must be several million £.

Kitchenbattle · Yesterday 11:47

That's good economical sense.

Lets go and drop 300k on stamp duty to save 3 quid on a sourdough.

That's a lot of sourdoughs!

Sorry if people are really that interested, but I promise you it's very dull.

And I am going to round up for ease.

Saturday morning £4 coffee while youngest two had swimming club.
Saturday ordered Tesco's £180 for Sunday (can't really count that)
Saturday £30 at Boots on shower gels, toothpaste etc.
Saturday Butchers £45 on chicken breasts and burgers
Saturday evening Chinese takeaway for 2 adults and 3 kids £70

Sunday £10 on coffee x2 with husband
Sunday £5 3 Famous Five Books from charity shop
Sunday £4 Sourdough from Gails
Sunday Brunch hubby only at Bills £50
Too good to go Rodeo donuts £8
Chopping Boards TK Max £15

I told you it was dull!

Well you didn't "do nothing", did you?
Multple coffees out, brunch out, an expensive family takeaway, online grocery shopping, expensive in person butcher shopping, plus other various purchases and incidentals. That's obviously going to be an expensive weekend, because you chose to repeatedly do expensive things!

BringBackCatsEyes · Yesterday 11:48

coulditbeme2323 · Yesterday 11:24

What I meant was a weekend doing nothing other than the essentials and a staying locally.

There was no real event or treat in there.

Maybe start a different thread debating whether meals out, takeaways, buying books are essential.
