AIBU to wonder how we spent so much doing nothing?

We were all exhausted this weekend, and literally didn't move further than 1 mile from our house.

How is it possible to spend so much money going nowhere and doing nothing?

Our family do this really weird thing - where we eat Monday - Friday as well.

So you spend around £370 a week on food /coffees a week with meals out. Takeaway and food delivery

is that normal for you ? To eat out once at weekend and a takeaway ?

Yes eating out once and one take away is about normal.

We weren’t there so not sure how we would know 🤷‍♀️

I think between 500-600 doing absolutely nothing!

What on earth are you talking about? That is my monthly budget.

OP has clarified.

And it turns out she spent the money doing plenty of things.

🤷‍♀️

I mean can you afford it OP? We earn over 300k between us a year and I don’t frivolously spend but if you are happy to then go for it? Eating out and food costs … I wouldn’t say you would class this as nothing costs .

I'd recommend doing them less often so they start being treats again. Life's more fun when things are novel and it's not worth spending money on things you don't need and don't really enjoy

it's amazing how quickly the coffee's etc add up.
I have never been out for a coffee before and I am 60.

You have never met a friend for coffee? Never sat in cafe and had a coffee while waiting for someone/something?

I warmly recommend doing so, small nice things makes life more enjoyable

I mean I kind of get OP, I spent more than I realised over the weekend and it's just all gone in necessities and small treats (like £20 in superdrug in sunscreen and kids vitamins, or £19.50 on cat's prescription charges and then coffees and pastries out for a whole family). But we did go for really nice lunch on Sunday which was worth the cost so I wouldn't say we did "nothing". Also dc got a ride around in a small miniature train which cost £2.50 but they were so happy with it.

Well, I wouldn't, but if I'm early for a lunch date with a friend I will have a cocktail ( thanks to Zizzi points) 🍸😚

Well that's a bit sad and hardly the standard of life most people are aiming for, so not sure what your point is. Money is no good once you're dead

SereneGoose · Today 19:25

I will happily take you out for a coffee if you're around the south of Edinburgh...

Troyston · Today 19:30

Another thread from you about what you did at the weekend and how much you spent. You spent a lot of money but had full choice of what you did and control over your actions.

Why do you keep spending so much money at weekends, saying you can afford it but then complain about it. It’s odd

Are they that bad? I drove past one last week and thought, at some point I'll go see what the fuss is all about.

Gail’s is overpriced. We have lots of coffee shops where we are, and it’s at the bottom of my list. The emperor’s new clothes of bakeries/coffee shops.

Yeah but it comes in handy when you are trying to stay alive????

Have I been?

Yes.

You didn't go nowhere and do nothing.

Going out and doing things costs money.
Hardly groundbreaking news.

Troyston · Today 20:07

It is the disingenuous nature of the OP’s posts about money. ‘Oh we went to London as a family of five and I just don’t know how we spent ££££. I mean we had slices of cheesecake that cost £19 each but I just don’t know where the money went’.
🙄
