AIBU to wonder how we spent so much doing nothing?

We were all exhausted this weekend, and literally didn't move further than 1 mile from our house.

How is it possible to spend so much money going nowhere and doing nothing?

A chopping board for veg and a couple of second hand kids books, and I am all of a sudden Kim Kardashian!

Yeah, it's mad.

Yeah, that isn't what people are going on about at all.

Edited

... Went for brunch had coffees bought a take away and horrible donuts ! And is all wide eyed with confusion that she didn't "do anything" all weekend but spent hundreds of £ FFS!

But feeding 1 toddler isn't equivalent to feeding 2 primary aged children & a teen.

shes not saying she can't afford it, she's simply saying such ordinary things have become expensive & she was surprised at how much it added up to.

Exactly

No - I don't think they are treats - that's the point!

No, you're missing the point (over and over).

Youre thread is a little annoying, like yourself, I'd say. You reply one liners and drip feed and refused to actually read replies, than skirt over a few lines which you can disagree with. Know your type. Am out.

Good luck with the "treats", which you now realise you can't afford.

Kitchenbattle · Today 09:08

@coulditbeme2323 the only questions you need to ask yourself is can you afford to drop 500 on basic weekends? Are you saving money also each month? If the answer to both of those is yes then you are all good.

This is all fascinating! I can easily spend a lot of money on a weekend away, so I'm not going to criticise. But, to me, a lazy weekend at home is exactly that - don't leave the house all Saturday and Sunday, read books, listen to the radio, watch TV. I eat and drink what I have in the house (including nice coffee), and obviously that's not free because it was in the supermarket shop. But in terms of extras, I spend zero.

I know - I went into a book shop to get second hand books for my kid - and people going on like I had a private shopper at Selfridges!

It's not so much how many £££ you spent that people are baffled about in this thread - it's more the bizarre claim that you did "nothing".
Shopping is something.
The chopping board could count as a necessity so buying that you could call it a "chore".
But buying books (new or second hand) is a leisure activity.
I mean if you specifically wanted to buy those Enid Blyton books you could have gone to Waterstones but by choosing to shop at a charity shop = a browsing activity.
Browsing is not "nothing".

I suppose I meant nothing of note!

Apologies for not being crystal clear!

Sounds like you done lots at the weekend but not sure why you’re so tired as it’s all been about eating food. £70 on takeaways, ££ on coffees, ££ on Gail’s, ££££ on Bills. Next it will be ££££ on weight loss injections

I think as a society we’ve become so used to “treats” we’ve lost perspective

I didn't say I was tired from the weekend, I said we had a tiring week! Hence needing the weekend staying near home.

Sorry if being vague - multi tasking.

I guess my point is we literally haven't left anywhere that's not walking distance from our house, haven't done anything fancy, and it's amazing how quickly the coffee's etc add up.

How many takeaway coffees then? I need to know! And did you pick up e.g. any outrageously priced e.g. blueberry muffins at the same time?

Bizzare thinking 🤔

No I wouldn't consider a couple of quid in a charity shop as any shopping of any real note.

It's not about shopping but that you are dismissing books for your children as "nothing of note".
I hope you don't pass that attitude about books onto your children.

I am not sure if you are purposely taking things out of context.

Of course I don't think books are nothing, and adored the fact they are reading the same books I do.

This thread was about how small things can add up, and I certainly don't consider a couple of quid spent at a charity shop to be any real shopping of note.

Op is doing the same on other threads. It’s best to ignore at this point as you say. Clearly needs a bit more going on in her life (beyond Gail’s brunch and £50 burgers…)

Difficulty101 · Today 10:03

Takeaways and eating out are insanely expensive. We did both in the last week (haven't for a while) and won't again for a long time - added up to a weekly food shop and was not even that great.

Partner and I been at work at the weekend and still managed to spent £500, only in 2 transactions...

New lawn mower and work boots
