Have you ever come across some money you’d completely forgotten about or neglected? I actually found an account last year which I thought I had closed - it had £35k in it!!

Oh. I was going to say I found £20 in a jacket pocket. Not quite what you were looking for!

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 05/06/2026 18:59

Well yes. But not at that level. About 25 years ago I found £100 in £20 notes in a book of mine. I had no idea then or now when I put it there or why.

But £35k. That’s wild!

AsparagusSeason · 05/06/2026 19:00

Not me, but when I was emptying my parents’ house after they’d died, I found an envelope in a bedroom drawer with £2k cash in it.

We spent it on a nice lunch for their children, spouses and grandchildren.

Will that's not quite the level I was aiming for! I once found a handbag with £50 cash in it when I was about 17/18 that I'd last used on a night out months and months before, and had dug it out to use on another night out. Back then it felt like a massive win, but nothing like 35k 😂

Larrythecatforpm · 05/06/2026 19:02

Yeah came across a bank account I had when I was 18 it gathered interest as I forgot about it was 15k in there. 🥴

Theresmagicwheretheflowersgrow · 05/06/2026 19:02

I once found an old £5 note in a recipe book. I've never been well enough off to use actual money as a bookmark so the discovery really surprised me. Not as good as yours though OP Smile

When my gran died we found envelopes with cash in all over the house in some very strange places. I don't think she trusted banks

Batties · 05/06/2026 19:02

£35K! 🤣🤣

JillThePlantKiller · 05/06/2026 19:03

I was thinking €20 in a coat pocket. It’s one of the lovely benefits of adhd. I’ve never misplaced €35k, no. 🤣

JasonTindallsTan · 05/06/2026 19:03

I don’t even have 35k in the bank accounts I know about, I can’t imagine ever forgetting about that 😂

Silverbirchleaf · 05/06/2026 19:03

Come across £10-£20 stuffed as ‘emergency money’ in hand bags.

Inthezone5578 · 05/06/2026 19:03

Yes. Partner forgot about a pension. Nice money to find

elliesmummy19 · 05/06/2026 19:05

I was going to tell the story about how my husband sold something on EBay just before Covid lockdown, “quarantined” the money in the gas meter cabinet then forgot about it till a year ago.

But that was only £30 so…

God, that was my mum. She’d always have thousands in her wallet. Paid cash for everything.

Tonissister · 05/06/2026 19:09

My BiL found about £15k in cash stashed in various places in his parents' house after they died. Most of it was no longer legal tender, so couldn't be exchanged for real money. Heartbreaking as they had lots of bills to pay.

LittleMerrymaid · 05/06/2026 19:10

Yes. 2000 rials I’d forgotten about in an account I’d set up for reasons I’ve forgotten. At the time it’s was worth approx 4000 pounds and it came in very handy.

ChupacabraIsReal · 05/06/2026 19:16

I've been sorting out bits to sell on Vinted. Checking pockets, inside shoes and handbags has resulted in an amazing £76.37!!

singthing · 05/06/2026 19:17

I've got little bits and pieces stashed in a few places outside of my "proper" savings:

  • Hidden savings accounts (as in hidden on the app and/or in web-only accounts I don't check) - I probably have 4-5 of these
  • £300 from an elderly family friend who gave it to me for helping him. He died in 2017, but I haven't yet found the nice thing I want to spend it on.
  • £200 in cash in my house that I took out during covid, just in case (of what I don't know)!
  • About £500 spread across a couple of cashback accounts, which accumulates as I continue to use the sites.
  • An emergency tenner in my car + a pile of coins
  • About £100 in other currency

£35K! 🤣🤣

I was thinking that I found £10 in a going out handbag once I was excited by that but £35k - wow!!

Hedgehoggin · 05/06/2026 19:18

I found a fiver in my dungarees the other week - it made my day! £35k+ is wild - how did you forget that?!!

MrsPapillon · 05/06/2026 19:19

No but I did recently find an old purse with a £5 Woolworths voucher in it. Unfortunately Woolies had long since gone bust but I often think of the big bag of foam shrimps and liquorice torpedoes that got away.

WaltzingWaters · 05/06/2026 19:20

I wish I could say I found £35k!! I was happy that I found £35 in my coat pocket last week! (But now that seems much less exciting!)

bohnerific69 · 05/06/2026 19:21

What a brilliant brag that you can just forget about £35k😂😂😂😂

CaptainBeefheartspal · 05/06/2026 19:23

How can you forget about £35K?! What are you going to do with it?

Hotafternoon · 05/06/2026 19:24

£80 in an old purse kept at the back of a drawer in the dining room.

£35k though, wow! 😄
