To ask if you’ve ever come across money you’d completely forgotten about?

Have you ever come across some money you’d completely forgotten about or neglected? I actually found an account last year which I thought I had closed - it had £35k in it!!

Oh ffs. How do you ‘forget’ about 35k. Makes me quite sick

I was very pleasantly surprised to receive a 17 grand lump sum from an old pension I hadn't paid into for 20 years, and I had assumed was worth tuppence ha'penny 😀

I once found over €20k more than expected in my current account with just a code as the sender.

My first instinct was to say nothing and see how long it would take for the bank to realize their mistake.

Then I thought it was someone trying to dodge Italian tax (if you get a regional grant for your first house they do a spot check on the balance). But how would they get it back??
Then I started thinking about African Prince scams…

Eventually I contacted the bank. Turns out they’d closed an investment policy unilaterally and that was my repayment. I never found the email telling me about it. So it WAS my money after all, just in a different place.
It took me 72 hours to see the discrepancy in the days before home banking. A spare 35k would not happen!

Talking about finding cash. When clearing out ILs’ house I found €50 in a coat pocket and remembered the day it had gone missing. Both of them were getting forgetful and had accused each other of losing it. Quite a sad memory.

DH found a £50 note in a Christmas card from his mum tucked away in a drawer at our house. He'd forgotten all about it & it could've been there a few years. It was lovely though as his mum had passed away only the week before he found it.

A friend of my dad’s stumbled across a bank account he’d forgotten about. With a million quid in it. Why, yes, he is very rich.
