H & M model photographs

I realise this isn’t a new thing. And I realise that H & M are not alone in this. But my eye was drawn by an H & M advert on this site and when I visited the H & M website I was appalled by the photos of models there. A lot of them are no doubt AI generated and modified, but they are presenting images of women who look unwell. I thought the fashion industry was moving on from representing women in this way. I was naive.

My body looks like the girl in the spotty dress and I’m in my 40s, eat well, exercise and am a very healthy BMI. People think chubby is normal because that’s what we see most around us.

I think it is more resentment and wanting to normalise chubby or overweight, two thirds of the population now is, but it doesn’t mean healthy women at a lower end of the bmi scale are unhealthy or unwell looking.

and self soothing as some posters are doing or displaying their envy or resentment won’t make it so,

it’s just really sad. These are clearly healthy young women, gorgeous at that, no one should be letting their unhappiness about their own weight drive them to attack them,

White dress is absolutely underweight. This is not health.

No she is not.

the jealousy of women who aren’t naturally slim strikes again 🥱

Yes that’s what it looks like, jealousy.

Yes. That looks bordering on emaciated to me.
Or someone who has been seriously unwell or is chronically ill.

No it doesn't look emaciated.

Its just that people have got so fat these days, that this kind of body shape is unusual. It shouldn't be.

TheGoddessFrigg · Today 07:46

This is exact;y how I used to look before menopause and steroids and disability all hit like a wrecking ball 😢and now Im criticised for being overweight. Women just cant win.

No she’s not. She’s just in an oversized dress.

people criticise slim women but are very quick to jump on the mounjaro bandwagon!

They look like 12 year olds. I'm 46, 5'7 and bmi 20 and I def don't look like that. I have a friend that does but she's got an eating disorder.

They don’t look like any 12 year old I’ve ever seen, show us an image of a 12 year old that looks like that.

Skin and bones. That's how you look before puberty, atleast me and my friends did.

Bitter? I am a very healthy weight, exercice a lot and eat well. I wouldn't want to look like I'm ill- I want to look healthy with muscle tone.

Yes, bitter, over their youth, no you won’t look like that at knocking on 50.

RaininSummer · Today 07:57

They all look fine to me. Very slim but lovely. They are models so they won't be carrying spare fat but they are definitely not emaciated or unhealthy looking. There are just so many fatties about now, myself included, that's it's normalised.

Yep. All these posters pretending to be "concerned"...

localnotail · Today 07:58

OMG this thread is shocking. So normal, slim people are ill - looking? Seriously? We are not allowed to fat shame (quite rightly) but someone who is naturally slim is told they have a wrong body? WTF?

You can't even see her body, the dress is so big! She just has thin wrists.

I'm a similar build to these models. I love food and cooking and I eat plenty, it's just the way I am.

All of the mounjaro threads are so defensive and critical of anyone that suggests weight loss drugs aren't the healthiest way to lose weight but it seems that it's fine to judge thin people!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · Today 07:59

astrozenica · Today 07:32

They look slim but not unhealthy.

So many people think it's perfectly healthy to be overweight that they don't realise what a healthy BMI looks like.

I think most people would be surprised if they saw those models in real life and realised how thin they actually are. I am not saying that all the H&M (or Zara…) models are underweight.

I am simply saying that it’s incredibly difficult to judge based on a foto and that the models generally look much thinner in real life!

The "real women" brigade are out in force!

This is not a healthy weight and not something I hope our daughters aspire to.

That is just a normal young woman at the slim end of the spectrum!

That is a healthy weight.

I am that build as are my children 2 of whom are pt models. We all eat and drink a good healthy amount.

Everyone is different !!!

Joydi · Today 08:00

Then we are both shocked.
I'll leave this thread now as some posters on here clearly come from the Kate Moss school of nothing tasting as good as skinny feels.
I'll hide the thread so no point tagging me.

This is the equivalent of a young kid sticking their tongue out, having the last word and running away!

localnotail · Today 08:03

A lot of people been telling me I look good and healthy and don't need to lose weight - when my BMI put me into obese category, my cholesterol was rocketing, I had a fatty liver and gall bladder problems. I was actually quite shocked. I had a huge stomach and a double chin. Yes, I dressed well and never felt inferior because of my shape, but I looked crap and unhealthy.

I think people forgot what a healthy person looks like - maybe go and have a look at what females looked like in the 60s-70s. Not a roll of fat in sight.

Mere1 · Today 08:04

MyOtherProfile · Today 07:16

She looks a size 8/10 and has shaped, muscular thighs. Looks healthy to me.
