To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

TBH if you are an adult travelling alone, you are probably ok as can use the egates.

It’s people travelling with children who seem to be really struggling.

No, you can’t. It’s three hour queues in the airport to get through. I did it in Norway. You have to be seen by a person.

OP, I travelled to Europe last week with Ryanair - it was fine. I was seen by a person, who did the fingerprints and photo thing. There was a queue, but not an enormous one.

They have literally just said on the news you need to be through security three hours before your flight, but Ryanair make that a physical impossibility.

Youve said you dont want to go, so dont. Whats the point in stressing yourself out so much?

This is not true

the boss of Wizzair has said that people should arrive at the airport 3h before their wizzair flight
not that it takes 3h to get through and it’s irrelevant if you’re not not flying wizzair

You are catastrophising. It will be fine

Summerbay23 · 30/05/2026 22:32

If it’s too stressful for you don’t go. If it’s making you that worried it’s not worth it. Personally I still want to go on holiday so I’ll hope for the best, it might be stressful but I’ll deal with it at the time. It’s totally up to you though.

It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve had this holiday planned for a year and now I can’t go because of fucking Brexit, which I’ve never agreed with. It’s maddening

It’s official EU advice. It’s just been on sky news.

Good attitude till your suitcase ends up in your final airport and you’re stuck in Europe! The government needs to step in, and asap.

Why would Ryanair do something that means every single person flying with them will miss their flight??

@idontwanttogoanymore you're being unreasonable and your anxiety has got the best of you. If you think to yourself - it works for the majority of other people - will your brain get to: so it will probably work for me?

That's what I do when I have this kind of anxiety

I really doubt that will happen, my sister flew back from Europe yesterday and all was absolutely fine. Where exactly are you going? I

Fleur405 · 30/05/2026 22:37

Where are you flying to? I went through the EES three times in the last 6 weeks or so. At schipol and also in Naples. Absolutely fine both times - the longest wait was maybe 20 minutes. Also I went to the airport early on the way home because my travel companion checked in on an eu passport and couldn’t get their boarding pass to return to the uk. We dropped our bags about 4 hours before our flight - also Ryanair - with no problem at all.

Milan. One of the worst affected airports.

It’s their policy.

Yes but if 100% of Ryanair passengers were missing their flight because of their policy they would have changed it by now. Most people must be getting to their destination with their suitcases. The odds are in your favor on this

ChickenBananaBanana · 30/05/2026 22:40

Is a profit making company really gonna make it so everyone misses the flight and they fly empty? Come on now stop panicking and engage your logical brain.

garlictwist · 30/05/2026 22:40

I went to France last week and then to Denmark and didn’t have to do it. No queues at all. The biggest queue was leaving the EU to come home at the second passport control.

I’d say it’s because the vast majority travel hand luggage only. The EU have said you must be there three hours before.

Never mind the fact it’ll take me a century to get in, and my flight lands at 9:30! its a shit show

Yet another inaccurate AI summary - OP they say "bag drop desk open at the latest 2 hours before flight departure" on the actual website, suggesting they are often open much earlier than that and more than likely will be for adapting to this new system, but AI is shit and makes stuff up!

You’re being ridiculous.

It’s extremely common for people to be ushered to the front of queues if they’re going to miss their flight. And is it really the end of the world if you do miss it and get on the next one instead? Your bag is unlikely to go home without you anyway as they’d take it off if you didn’t board. And so what if it did, you can pick it up when you get to your home airport!

Yes it is the end of the world because you then have to pay for a new flight, get to the original airport and somehow get to baggage claim to get your suitcase!
