British behaviour in holiday hotel

We are staying at a good all inclusive resort (yes, I know all inclusive is not high end, but this is about as good a one as you can get). I am just shocked and ashamed at fellow british people at breakfast time. Letting their kids make a huge mess by allowing them to get their own food. Huge amounts of wasted food. Multiple untouched plates left on tables. Total disregard for others barging round, blocking walkways etc. When did this become ok?? AIBU with expectations? Bear in mind this is not a cheap rubbish tui-blue type place. I dread to think what they are like!

Please don’t call TUI blue type places cheap and rubbish. They are still over £3k for a holiday and is the best that people can afford - don’t shit on others!

This please !! TUI blue for the summer holidays is about six grand for a week in many locations – I’d hardly call that cheap!!

I wouldn't say that's a distinctly British thing. The only time I've ever encountered behaviour like that at an all inclusive resort was in Cyprus, and it was a Greek family not a British one.

Are you sure? Are you sure they weren't British but with Greek heritage 😂

No, they were definitely Greek! They were friends of the owner, and regulars, from what we could gather from the staff.

Imagine enjoying your holiday and just minding your own business.

Don’t you two have jobs to go to?! And that’s a lighthearted comment by the way in case one of you thinks I have a problem with people who are unemployed!

Ha ha you never know on here. Slightest thing can be taken the wrong way.

I was thinking the same. I’m on holiday but still don’t want to be arguing on MN all day. Far too hot!

Unfortunately that is exactly what you can't do at an ai as a load of randoms turn up and dominate the space.

Some people will be well behaved and some a lot less so.

Goditsmemargaret · Yesterday 18:54

Yeah but part of the fun of being in a resort is people watching.

gloopyshoopy · Yesterday 21:37

Not unreasonable to be annoyed. Unreasonable to expect better though. I did an all inclusive. Once. That was enough.

People can be very self centred, especially where there aren't immediate consequences to their way of being.

What's wrong with letting kids get their own food?

Kids, especially under 8s, don't know better and will just overfill their plates. Parents need to get a grip and teach them.

Mummadeze · Today 06:56

My advice would be to try to chill out, stop being so judgmental and enjoy seeing cute kids having fun on their holiday even if they don’t match the standards you hold for your own. I love an AI holiday, I have a good job but find Tui Blue too expensive so go on cheaper ones than that! And they have always been fun if you unwind and go with the flow.

The whole point of going AI is to be lazy. No thinking. No effort. Just trooping backwards and forwards between the pool and the dining hall.

So probably not surprising that a load of slackers turn up.

I like to get about and do stuff on holiday, but as a busy parent (and one child with significant disabilities), a FT job and a house to keep, I'm starting to dream of going AI and not having to do anything for a change. I'm far from lazy at home, because I can't be.

Such a LAZY, sweeping generalisation you have made there. Laziness is not just about physical effort, but thinking effort too.

Not really, stop looking to be offended. She didn't say everyone is a slacker, just that they would show up.

The mauling & piling up will always happen unfortunately. When I first saw kids helping themselves to ice cream at breakfast it made me smile, wouldn’t we all have loved this opportunity? You’ve obviously never seen how the German adults behave, they’re unbeatable!
