Really depressed I didn’t just go on Ozempic - only maintained for a year

I don’t know I really need a rant.

I feel really angry and upset at myself. To the point i just want to scream/cry.

Last year i lost 55 pounds without glp 1s. I totally cut out carbs (well I’d eat sweet potatoes if absolutely necessary). And just made an effort not to use food as a crutch. It worked fairly well as the weight came off.

I decided I needed more moderation. The no carb thing was just making me have cravings. So I started eating jackets, pasta salads etc. Not ideal as I have pcos but I try to be sensible. Ie having cooled down pasta to make it resistant or whatever. Not smothering pasta in cheese etc.

Its meant my weight loss has completely stalled. I’m happy that I’ve not gained all the weight back. But still. I’ve been eating in moderation for a year and not lost weight! I can’t deny this anger is compounded by the fact I saw my friend for lunch today. She’s lost 5 stone in 5 months using Mounjaro.

I just want to weep. I wish I just started on Ozempic or similar. I’m at my goal weight but to be honest I’d love another stone off. I don’t know why I didn’t go
on a glp 1. I just knew in my heart that my weight was not “inexplicable”. I was eating far too much out of boredom.

Just another sunny day wasted hating myself even though I’ve tried 😢

I’ve been going to the gym too. How pathetic to be this mindful and to not have lost any weight.

What is stopping you going on it now then?

I am confused. You are heartbroken that you lost the weight through grit and determination?

WallaceinAnderland · 24/05/2026 15:33

You're at your goal weight so what's the problem?

WhereistheAC · 24/05/2026 15:34

I'm slightly confused as to why you're angry and upset. You're at your goal weight, eating in moderation, and have maintained for a year. It sounds like you're doing fabulously!

If you did want to lose another stone, couldn't you just cut the carbs again for a bit?

You can’t have a stone to lose if your BMI is healthy though. You should be really proud of having got to goal weight on your own.

My goal weight puts me in the healthy range. I still have wobbly bits that are getting me down.

I’m 137 pounds. I’d love to be 120. My arms and stomach just look awful uncovered

TheSlantedOwl · 24/05/2026 15:35

You should be very proud of yourself!

Have a breather and then make a plan to go off carbs again or calorie control in a different way.

So you’re pissed you did it through making lifestyle changes?

And you would have a shed load of loose skin likely if you’re dropped the weight at the speed of WLI but your don’t.

so focus on toning

So you’re pissed you did it through making lifestyle changes?

I’m pissed i still can’t enjoy a sunny day without feeling self conscious even though I’ve lost weight in a sensible fashion which isn’t getting me anywhere now. I’m so exhausted with my body

OP posts:
WallaceinAnderland · 24/05/2026 15:37

You'll always have wobbly bits OP and if you lose enough weight to be under your bmi, you will likely have loose skin, wrinkled arms anyway. Just accept yourself how you are and be proud of your achievements.

Femalemachinest · 24/05/2026 15:37

Honestly youre doing it the best way. The only way to keep it off is lifestyle changes. You changed and maintained your diet. A lot of people who crash diet put it back on because they havent changed their mindset.

Stick to it, youre doing well

but you would have loose skin and likely even more if you took WLI
so now you tone!!

You'll probably still feel self conscious, if you lost another stone. My BMI is 20 and I have wobbly bits and feel self conscious.

Hassell · 24/05/2026 15:38

How old are you?

Apileofballyhoo · 24/05/2026 15:38

OP you've learned how to maintain your weight without using anything. I think that's absolutely fantastic.

Onefairfish · 24/05/2026 15:38

I don’t think you should feel negative about losing 55 pounds, that’s a great achievement. I presume that you can’t start a GLP 1 now because you don’t meet the prescribing criteria. Why not take a different tack, forget about low carb, just stick to the calories that will put you in a calorie deficit (make sure you know what this is by using a tool such as MyFitnessPal), but don’t fret about food groups. A change can sometimes kick start things.

BolognaTower · 24/05/2026 15:38

Be proud OP. You did this all by yourself! Maybe try some exercise for toning. But well done!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 24/05/2026 15:39

Put back on two stones, enjoy the ride and then go on WLI. Crazy idea but better than wasting your time feeling unsatisfied.

When people make posts like this it makes me think they are really judgey.

Do you sit and look at other women on the beach, or your neighbours, or your friends even and think, wow they've got wobbly bits, they should really cover up their arms, they shouldn't be wearing that, etc?

Do you do that to other women OP?

Hassell · 24/05/2026 15:39

So you haven’t put on weight since losing it all?

Neade · 24/05/2026 15:39

Luckily I don’t have loose skin (only 31). I just have a layer of fat that won’t budge. Wish I could be in a skimpy top like everyone else.

OP posts:
Strimmertime · 24/05/2026 15:40

It’s better to lose when weight without medication if you can OP.
Medication can have side effects.
