Really depressed I didn’t just go on Ozempic - only maintained for a year

I don’t know I really need a rant.

I feel really angry and upset at myself. To the point i just want to scream/cry.

Last year i lost 55 pounds without glp 1s. I totally cut out carbs (well I’d eat sweet potatoes if absolutely necessary). And just made an effort not to use food as a crutch. It worked fairly well as the weight came off.

I decided I needed more moderation. The no carb thing was just making me have cravings. So I started eating jackets, pasta salads etc. Not ideal as I have pcos but I try to be sensible. Ie having cooled down pasta to make it resistant or whatever. Not smothering pasta in cheese etc.

Its meant my weight loss has completely stalled. I’m happy that I’ve not gained all the weight back. But still. I’ve been eating in moderation for a year and not lost weight! I can’t deny this anger is compounded by the fact I saw my friend for lunch today. She’s lost 5 stone in 5 months using Mounjaro.

I just want to weep. I wish I just started on Ozempic or similar. I’m at my goal weight but to be honest I’d love another stone off. I don’t know why I didn’t go
on a glp 1. I just knew in my heart that my weight was not “inexplicable”. I was eating far too much out of boredom.

Just another sunny day wasted hating myself even though I’ve tried 😢

I’ve been going to the gym too. How pathetic to be this mindful and to not have lost any weight.

Put back on two stones, enjoy the ride and then go on WLI. Crazy idea but better than wasting your time feeling unsatisfied.

I have been tempted to do this

I’m confused about what’s stopping you losing another stone by going back to the carb cutting you were doing to lose the first few stones?

When people make posts like this it makes me think they are really judgey.

Do you sit and look at other women on the beach, or your neighbours, or your friends even and think, wow they've got wobbly bits, they should really cover up their arms, they shouldn't be wearing that, etc?

Do you do that to other women OP?

No. I’m just triggered by friend who looked absolutely tiny when I saw her today. She was much larger than me at Christmas. And is now definitely smaller than me. It’s just really bummed me out. Feeling sorry for myself. Embarrassing really.

You’ve worked really hard but it’s truly denying yourself any pleasure. It’s easy to feel upset by others who do not suffer the constant food noise. If it’s still a constant for you, you should be able to access a maintenance dose, can you speak to your GP?

The carb cutting just isn’t good for me mentally. It makes me feel very claustrophobic. It’s hard to explain. I just can’t do that again.

but you have not have you?

I said maintained in the title. Ie maintained weight.

I’ve been actively trying to lose weight in a less intense manner and not made an ounce of progress. Despite minding portions, going to the gym 4/5 times a week. It sucks all that effort and I’m not still not where I want to be.

If you're not judging others, what makes you think they are judging you?

ZaraCC · 24/05/2026 15:46

Can you afford to pay for them privately?

You can’t have a stone to lose if your BMI is healthy though. You should be really proud of having got to goal weight on your own.

A “healthy” BMI for someone my height is 7 stone 10 to 10 stone 5. It’s a pretty wide range and you could def drop a stone (or two) and still be within the healthy range.

Hassell · 24/05/2026 15:47

Can be interpreted as you only managed to maintain for a year.

So you have lost a shit ton

and
now healthy bmi but with some loose skin . So tone up with exercise

how old are you

Runningswanker · 24/05/2026 15:47

OP have say you go to the gym, have you considered focusing on strength training? As it's entirely normal to have wobbly bits at all sizes and losing another 15lbs might make your arms and stomach a bit smaller, but smaller doesn't necessarily stop them being wobbly. Having a bit of muscle does - muscle still wobbles a bit when it's not flexed but the 'toned' look many women aspire too isn't just smaller, it's more muscle and less bodyfat.
I know it might not be much consolation but I've seen a lot of women who have lost weight with injections be disappointed that the result is having the same body shape just less of it, as that's not necessarily the change they wanted - some of it we can't change because it's genetic, but strength training can make a big difference to how you look, and importantly, how you feel.

I think the poster meant that your thread title includes “only maintained for a year” which suggested after a year you put weight back on ie “I was only able to maintain for a year” rather than what I now assume you meant which is “for a year all I’ve been able to do is maintain rather than lose weight”.

Strimmertime · 24/05/2026 15:48

‘Only maintained for a year’ can be read as you maintained your weight loss for a year and then put it back on.
That’s how I read it tbh.
You’re doing so well to keep it off!
ETA sorry, cross-posted with pp.

Oh no. My mistake. I haven’t gained. Only maintained ie I didn’t lose despite actively trying to do so

Some of the online pharmacies offer WLI at a lower BMI, 27 I think? Eat a bit more, drink a load of water and then request mounjaro etc at a slightly higher weight? I’ve been where you are (I lost 70lb with intermittent fasting and exercise) and after a particularly stressful bit of life I finished my weight loss with some v low strength mounjaro for a few months.

I have dabbled with strength training. It’s highly recommended for women with pcos. I use weights and the machines and just follow what I see on tik tok. Ie i follow a routine for arms for beginners using 2kg weights. But not dead lifting or anything like that. I am trying to build myself to that point. I was very very unfit prior to weight loss.

I appreciate the advice though and it’s definitely something I need to actually commit to. Thank you x

If you’re only 31 you can absolutely fix this with exercise. What do you enjoy? Yoga is great for toning and mental health. Don’t be so down on yourself. You’ve done really well, you should be proud, but don’t wrap all your self esteem into a number on the scales.

Tuxedomaddness · 24/05/2026 15:54

Just swim.It will tone everything up. Arms and stomach.

Neade · 24/05/2026 15:57

I’m at the gym 4-5 times a week. I do cardio for an hour (treadmill/bike/rowing) and try to tone arms/legs/whatever by following an online workout. Nothing super intense. Ie arm workouts I only use 2kg weights. I probably need to up this.

Did you post recently under a different user name? Also how depressed you were feeling about your weight?

I’ve lost 7st on WLI going from 16st to 9st. I’m at the lower end of my bmi range and still wouldn’t wear anything skimpy. Currently sitting in my own garden in shorts and tshirt but feeling a lot more comfortable than I used to at 16st.
Good to see you’re going to commit to strength training op, it’s been really beneficial to me as I’ve lost weight and miraculously I haven’t been left with loose skin (well nothing more than a wrinkly belly post 3 children). I also swim 1km 2-3 times a week and do reformer Pilates twice a week. Find something you love and shift your focus a little.
