AIBU to expect a reply after leaving two days early?

With 2 days left to go on my notice period, work colleague I work with being nasty with rude comments, bosses ignoring me I came home and emailed/messaged my boss that I won’t be returning for the last 2 days of my notice period as I want some time before starting my new job next week. She’s seen the message but not replied. AIBU to think she should have?

What did you want them to say?

What did you want them to say?

Thank you for letting me know? Best of luck?

Did you ask them anything (e.g. can you confirm that I will be paid for the days I worked this month etc) or did you just tell them you weren’t coming back?

I mean, from the sounds of things they were hardly going to beg you to return for your last two days, if that’s what you were expecting.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 20/05/2026 21:02

Maybe they don’t wish you well as they’re annoyed that you’re refusing to work your notice

Yes I did say to confirm I will be paid for the days I worked

Presumably they’ll reduce your pay by two days?

I think there’s technically a breach of contract on your part there, but it is just not normally acted on in any way.

OneNaiceSnail · 20/05/2026 21:04

If you left because they were nasty and bullying you, I’m not too sure what you were expecting tbh

DressOrSkirt · 20/05/2026 21:06

When did you send it? Was it today after working hours?

Yes after working hours

In what way were the bosses ignoring you, and how were your colleague's comments nasty?

Snoken · 20/05/2026 21:08

Sam155320 · 20/05/2026 21:07

Yes after working hours

Edited to say expect to hear back within working hours.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2026 21:08

Sam155320 · 20/05/2026 21:07

Yes after working hours

In which case I wouldn't expect a reply.

Tableforjoan · 20/05/2026 21:08

I’d of just sent 👍🏻 in response. Not sure what you want really. Interested to work your full notice clearly.

DressOrSkirt · 20/05/2026 21:10

Sam155320 · 20/05/2026 21:07

Yes after working hours

I would expect them to reply tomorrow in that case, but if they have been awful to work for they might not!

Catroo · 20/05/2026 21:10

I also wouldn't expect a response outside of work hours, and it maybe they need to check with HR before answering your question.

tiramisugelato · 20/05/2026 21:10

Why would they wish you well? You’ve pissed off and not worked your notice!

Strandas · 20/05/2026 21:11

Don’t text people in non work hours, people have lives outside of work and want to switch off. They’re probably worrying about having to sort out what happens with HR and payroll if you don’t work your notice according to contract.

CanaryLibra · 20/05/2026 21:12

Your boss is probably waiting until tomorrow to clarify with HR whether/what they need to pay you, given that you’ve decided you’re not working your notice period.

You’ve presumably breached your contract, so maybe don’t bank on it.

Nottopanic · 20/05/2026 21:15

So you’ve just absconded from work for two days? How is that responsible behaviour? You must be in breach of contract.

Doesitneverend · 20/05/2026 21:19

Why would they reply OOH?
Expect to have the pay deducted and don't rely on them for a reference.

Butterme · 20/05/2026 21:20

She’s probably pissed off that you’ve ditched work early to ‘prepare’ for your new job.

You don’t have s good work ethic it seems and so I’m not sure why you expect her to have a better one.

Reference has already been done and I already have my contract with new job.

I would be very surprised if you got paid for the period you have refused to work.

WotsitsAndLambrini · 20/05/2026 21:26

Worth bearing in mind that in future you may still require a reference from them. It’s not a great way to end your relationship with that employer.
