I wear big comfy pants. I’d like to understand why people wear uncomfortable looking underwear

Is it for men? If so why wear it on a daily basis when you’re not having sex? If you lived on a desert island on your own would you still wear the uncomfortable itchy lace stuff? Aibu

How bad is your hygiene that you would think that things need to be binned after one wear? Ugh.

Nothing wrong with my hygiene.
I just hope all the thong wearers keep theirs up to scratch.

Flamingojune · 20/05/2026 11:41

I hate thongs on me, also hate seeing thong swimwear on others

blackpooolrock · 20/05/2026 11:57

But I do think that thoughtful dressing (if you have that luxurious choice) makes the world a nicer place

WTF are you on about? what is thoughtful dressing? i've never heard so much clap trap in all my life. I think you need to think less.

It's widely known

😂 only in the MN universe
a woman who finds thongs the most comfortable CHOICE for them and who is perfectly cabable of wiping their own arse really sets the pearl clutchers off on here

LittleRobins · 20/05/2026 12:01

Every day I learn something new from this forum. Today it is that some people find thongs comfortable. Just, how?

DeftGoldHedgehog · 20/05/2026 12:03

I'm 50 and don't wear lacy thongs but find cotton hipster shorts and Brazilian cotton pants (which are fairly brief but not thongs) very comfortable.

Personally I like wearing small pants now I don't have to think about periods! Like having a small handbag or no bag at all now I'm past the mum carrying everything phase.

I've never ever worn big tummy warmer pants, even when I was pregnant. I don't find them comfortable at all and certainly wouldn't want to risk something poking out the top of my jeans or skirt.

I don't get women who find bras uncomfortable and prefer taking theirs off all the time (and I have small boobs)

Or people who buy jeans so uncomfortable they cant' wear them when working from home.

Comfort is a very individual thing it seems! I don't love thongs, but I can completely understand if they are someone else's favourite. I find granny pants even uncomfortable in bed!

bananaapplepears · 20/05/2026 12:07

I only wear thongs. Big knickers are really uncomfortable on me. They end up in my bum crack which means loads of fabric up there instead of the small amount of material on a thong.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 20/05/2026 12:08

I also find bras quite comfortable. Perhaps there is a correlation with people on Mumsnet saying I could never be a size 10/12 and 34C/D bra and telling me to get a smaller back size and larger cup size. As when I try bras on like that they are certainly uncomfortable!

Error404FucksNotFound · 20/05/2026 12:10

I assume it's because they like wearing them. Maybe they don't feel uncomfortable. Perhaps they like the way they make the clothes look.

7in1Pond · 20/05/2026 12:16

I think relative comfort/discomfort is a lot to do with body shape. I definitely found all sorts of things comfortable when I was younger, and that was a lot to do with the fact that I was slim with no lumps and bumps- things fitted me in the same way they fit a mannequin in a shop because my body type was what they were designed for. Now I'm much older and a different shape post babies, so even though I'm the same dress size things will dig in and ride up in ways they never used to.

Amazing how exercised some people seem to be about other people's underwear.

Chipsahoy · 20/05/2026 12:16

I am very slim and wear hi legs and occasionally thong. I don’t find either uncomfortable.

bumptybum · 20/05/2026 12:16

I find big pants need to fit really well to not be uncomfortable. I find they are often weirdly uncomfortable in the crease between my thighs and my body at the front and sometimes give me a wedgie.

thongs are designed to be in the crevice so they are thin and I don’t really feel them. Or high cut pants when I’m wearing something that doesn’t show my knickers can be good. But big pants no

Icantbebothered · 20/05/2026 12:17

I have a weird bum shape. ‘Big’ pants ride up, and I’m forever pulling out the wedgy. Thongs are the only style I find confirtable wear. Hth.

I've always found them very comfortable. I also wear lacy underwear and it's not itchy or uncomfortable.

Because if you get good ones that fit you right, they don’t go right up the crevice, They sort of go in, but with no pressure. And because they’re designed to go there for some of us, we just don’t feel them

for some of us big pants end up giving us a wedgie and so it’s a great big ward of fabric up our arse crack and obviously that’s really uncomfortable And we feel the need to pick it out

It sems like a lot of people on MN have very poor hygiene. I'm also thinking about the people who can't be bothered to clean their carpets regularly but walk all over them without shoes and think that's acceptable.

Priceyyy · 20/05/2026 12:24

Having seen someone with the same username post similar comments on another thread I’m starting to think there’s an ulterior motive to some of these threads/comments, and for that reason I’m out 👋🏼

I love my big knickers smooths out my big belly 😆

Exactly.... Grown women should know how to keep their vulva clean and not contaminate there knickers so much that they need a public health warning 😆Gross

managingexpectations · 20/05/2026 14:59

I’m 43 with a fat arse (fat everything really) and will only wear thongs anything else just feels uncomfortable and sits weirdly under clothes.

I most definitely don’t wear them for men I wear them because I like them and find them far more comfortable.
I can quite honestly say I don’t give other people’s underwear choice a second thought 🤷🏻‍♀️

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 20/05/2026 16:09

You all know that you are providing plenty of material (no pun intended) for someone’s wank bank, right?

But if no one wears shoes in the house, the carpets don’t get very dirty

They don’t need to be deep cleaned every month just a vacuum is fine weekly or daily in my case

Outside of MN, it IS acceptable for many people to wear shoes in the house and to clean their floors.

I used to find bras and jeans really uncomfortable. Then I lost a lot of weight and find they’re now comfortable. I think it’s about things digging in a lot of the time and if you’re much smaller clothing tends to have a lot more room in areas where clothing isnt exactly sized up to scale (bum, thighs, crotch/hips aren’t the same dimension in comparison to length on a woman who is size 8 vs size 12 or 14 for example. But manufacturers take the size 8 and just make it wider in the same proportions).

Thongs I’ve never found uncomfortable. I can’t particularly feel them when I wear them. They just sit there they don’t rub.
