Every child in the UK has equal access to free education until the age of 18. That is an absolute dream for girls in Afghanistan for example.
I don't have a problem with some people attending private school, no. There are many excellent state schools, a good education doesn't have to be bought.
What I think is very important however, is a positive and encouraging attitude towards the importance of education from a child's parents. That is clearly lacking in many people on this thread.
I'm in my sixties and was state educated, as were my sisters and both my parents. Both my parents went to university, got first class degrees and PhDs. That was very unusual for women back in the fifties, but my mother did it, no one in her family had afforded to stay at school longer than the school leaving age, but due to the 1944 Education Act my mother could stay on at school at no cost, as could my father.
My sisters and I went from state school to university, some to Oxbridge. We had successful professional careers. All our children ( boys and girls) were state educated and went to university, again some Oxbridge, and all are highly successful in a variety of careers.
Not one of us was educated privately.
