I thought they changed the law and you had to be 18 in the UK?

You missed the enraged posts about the 18 year old who was imprisoned for exactly that whilst on holiday in Dubai. The overwhelming majority of posts were that the Law of the country he was in with his consenting younger girlfriend was that it was perfectly OK and it was barbaric to criminalise him.

Nope I didn't miss it. I saw them.

Livelovebehappy · 17/05/2026 20:19

I noticed the Fury kids are pretty feral. Bad language is the norm it seems. They don’t have boundaries or any kind of discipline. Really sad. Is this also part of the culture of the traveller community? Is that why they have zero respect for other people?

Are you a traveller? If not then do not comment on other cultural traditions.

I think a better question is why???
It's normal within the traveller community.
It's also none of your business.

Bit blunt

Of course we can comment. That's the very nature of this site. It's not your role to sensor us.

Do you also think the private and state school system is shocking then?

That every child doesnt have the same access to a fair education?

Because I think that is shocking.

Why do economic educational inequalities mean you think restricting young people’s access to post-primary education is a good thing? I don’t understand why you think that because all children cant access the same standard of education some children should be restricted from accessing the opportunities that are provided. State schools may not offer the same level of opportunities as private school, but the vast majority support study to GCSE level, which opens up many future pathways.
A rounded home education could also be a great foundation, but just focusing on domestic chores isn’t.

You know there is a vast space between being let loose on TikTok and being brought up in your culture? It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

If they're in secondary school they get tiktok and look at the fury's/big fat gypsy wedding/this is who you are/take this, smoke that, give us a snog, tell us me fortune from the kids, and when are you leaving, no point in you doing this, you'll be married and having kids soon, from the teachers.
I'd rather bring them up with the better bits of my culture, and not the worst bits, and the LEA can spend the money saved on your kids.

And yet British women are more depressed than ever, so it seems like the traveller community is actually better for women.

The reason might because of patriarchy and this is not going to improve by being more oppressed.

Lol. Most people don't know at 40.

So? Just because some 40 year olds are clueless then we should just let children get married? What a bizarre take.

I never said that restricting anyones access to education was a good thing.

I said she should be able to choose what she wants to do. This marriage was her choice, not her parents choice. If she wants to do that, why not.

Fraudornot · 17/05/2026 20:22

I saw an interview with Venezuela today and she said ‘why should I not get married, I’d just be sitting at home doing nothing if I didn’t’. That is so deeply sad that in this day and age a 16 year old thinks that is her only two options

The debatable point is at what age does someone become an adult?

The government just pick a random age. You are not more of an adult at 18 then you are at 17.
Age of consent is different in every country.

choccytime · 17/05/2026 20:25

I can't believe she s 16 she looks a lot older , beautiful dress though

Apologies - I thought you were suggesting that removing kids from school young was ok. I do disagree though that 16 year olds should be able to marry.

Because I think that is shocking.

Every child in the UK has equal access to free education until the age of 18. That is an absolute dream for girls in Afghanistan for example.

I don't have a problem with some people attending private school, no. There are many excellent state schools, a good education doesn't have to be bought.

What I think is very important however, is a positive and encouraging attitude towards the importance of education from a child's parents. That is clearly lacking in many people on this thread.

I'm in my sixties and was state educated, as were my sisters and both my parents. Both my parents went to university, got first class degrees and PhDs. That was very unusual for women back in the fifties, but my mother did it, no one in her family had afforded to stay at school longer than the school leaving age, but due to the 1944 Education Act my mother could stay on at school at no cost, as could my father.

My sisters and I went from state school to university, some to Oxbridge. We had successful professional careers. All our children ( boys and girls) were state educated and went to university, again some Oxbridge, and all are highly successful in a variety of careers.

Not one of us was educated privately.

People look like adults at that age. I see 16 year old boys looking like full grown men

How do you know it wasnt her parents choice? Also if she wants to have sex with him, which presumably she does, is she going to have to be married for that (which will be culturally driven, not necessarily a choice).

So you don’t want them influenced by any other opinions. Fair enough I guess. It’s a common enough thing to do - I know people who home educate for similar reasons

Your post about the children was quite hard to work out - what’s the relevance of the smoking or snogging to the traveller kids?

Omg.

Because Paris Fury, her mother, has DONE interviews saying so!

There isn’t much difference between 17 year olds and 18 year olds because, duh, they are very close in age. Some 17 year olds are mature beyond their years, but some are not. The government have not just picked a random age, they’ve picked an age where on average individuals are mature enough to cope with adult life. It’s a broad stick and may not always bear out to be true in all cases, but they can’t very well decide who’s mature enough and therefore an adult on an individual case by case basis.

Well like a lot of things, we will never really know the truth.

Paris did speak about herself aswell though. Paris works at different things.
