AIBU to ask for a refund on a seaview caravan upgrade?

Generally feel like I have a point but dh thinks not.

We are currently at haven seton sands for a 3 night break which cost us just under 800 pound ( that includes 25 so we can choose our check in time)

We booked a seaview gold caravan but feel like it's definitely not worth the extra pounds especially when other caravans have s better view. If we booked just a gold caravan ot would have been cheaper.

Aibu to Ask for a refund between a seaview gold and a gold caravan?

It does make sense but it also doesn't mean £800 for 3 nights isn't a total rip-off. You could fly abroad for less and stay for longer!

For some it’s a rip off for others it’s fine.

The £635 sea view I looked at was for six people. That’s a £105 per person for 3 nights. So £35.27 per person per night. It’s not that outrageous.

If you went for the cheapo £249, then £41.50 per person for the weekend or £13.83 per night per person.

id rather have a dishwasher, big deck and en-suite and sea view so I pay the £35.27 pppn.

You don't need to try and justify it to me, lol.

Bloody hell, we stopped for 4 nights at Seton Sands for less that £100 last year.

JustABean · 16/05/2026 19:11

Bonkers, we booked a holiday cottage in Scarborough sleeps 8 garden straight onto beach £580 kids are loving it

ZippyGeorgeandBungle2 · 16/05/2026 19:48

We’re actually just back from seton sands & have been going for past 16 years. Sorry but I doubt you’ve paid £800 for a caravan, unless you’ve booked through an owner, in that case you’ve been massively ripped off & yes I’d complain. If you’ve booked through Haven then there’s no such thing as a sea view option, they’re all roadside, possibly with a view of the beach but possibly obstructed by the wall or bushes. If it’s the latter than you will not have paid £800 for 5 people. So either way…

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 16/05/2026 19:53

Where was the other view, was it Berwick upon tweed? @Notwantanyonetiknowitsme2026

AzureFinch · 16/05/2026 22:05

Dick Turpin wore a mask at least

PissOffJeffrey · 16/05/2026 22:15

You can’t have a front row sea view at Seton Sands because there’s a road between the park & the seafront.

It is misleading, definitely. Although if you know Haven you know the best views are Platinum Seaview. And also they would charge you for breathing the air if they could.

I’d be disappointed too and I’d definitely go to reception and complain. See what they say and/or offer you - refund/partial refund/move to another caravan.

Zerosleep · 17/05/2026 19:01

Given the description of the view, I would want a refund. It’s not an uninterrupted, stunning front row view at all is it.

Could you possibly pm me the details?! MIL lives in Scarborough, doesn’t have the space to put our family of 5 up when we visit so we spend a fortune on a caravan or a run-down air b’n’b!

thetinsoldier · 17/05/2026 23:33

That is not an uninterrupted sea view!! I’d complain.

But so expensive…!

HappyCowgirl · 18/05/2026 08:36

They advertised a ‘stunning’ sea view, and this isn’t it. Go and ask for a refund. Like another poster said- what do you have to lose 🤷🏼‍♀️

BigAnne · 18/05/2026 08:56

I booked a gold caravan at Seaton Sands because it had wrap around decking. However they didn't provide a table and chairs so was pretty pointless. When I complained they said it wasn't stated in the description that they provided outdoor furniture although it was in the pictures.

Wow that's shoddy.

In the words of basil fawlty ‘you can see the sea. It’s over there, between the land and the sky!’

Totally
😂😂

TinkersBelle · 18/05/2026 09:57

How much?! My eldest just booked two weeks in Mexico Tulum for end of May for £800 each for him & his GF flights & 5* Rivera Maya hotel all inclusive, granted it’s a late deal but WOW I’m shocked how much a caravan break is! I’ve been there many times & it’s a definite upgrade compared to a caravan! Crazy prices for that! If you can get anything back I’d definitely try!

BigAnne · 18/05/2026 10:17

SwirlyGates · 18/05/2026 09:34

Wow that's shoddy.

I checked the website today and it now says garden furniture included. I was there 3 years ago. So I reckon they had lots of complaints. The cost is now eye watering for a very average holiday park.

ThePeppyOpalScroller · 18/05/2026 10:20

£800 FOR 3 NIGHTS IN A CARAVAN!

WTF!

You could have got three nights at a 5 star hotel in Budapest, flights included for that. And you'd have free champagne breakfast, sauna, pool . . .

That's nuts!

£800!

I'm going to talk to someone tomorrow as yes it's still a nice view but it is marked as stunning sea view and uninterrupted sea view. I have added more pics where I'm standing on the decking

That is dreadful. The miserable sods.

Notwantanyonetiknowitsme2026 · Yesterday 10:41

So I did complain and was told someone would get in touch the next day which didn't happen. So I complained directly to haven which still awaiting a response. I paid for something I didn't get.

You need to make it more hassle for them to ignore you then to deal with your complaint. You can do this politely, but forcefully. You have a case for the price difference (cash, not a voucher) plus a small gesture of goodwill if you can wrangle it.

Tableforjoan · Yesterday 21:41

You need to make sure you’ve lodged the complaint in line with their official way. Also copy in the ceo email with it.

You’re unlikely to get much more than a £50 please fuck off though as that seems to be the standard for complaints these days and that’s if they respond.

You always need to complain on the first day and then case it daily while there plus hit their X account.

We complained at wild duck before and didn’t get far. I posted on what was then Twitter and got a phone call within 30minutes from reception with a ton of vouchers which worked for us as it was the first day and basically paid for all meals and shop while there for a week 😅
