AIBU to ask for a refund on a seaview caravan upgrade?

Generally feel like I have a point but dh thinks not.

We are currently at haven seton sands for a 3 night break which cost us just under 800 pound ( that includes 25 so we can choose our check in time)

We booked a seaview gold caravan but feel like it's definitely not worth the extra pounds especially when other caravans have s better view. If we booked just a gold caravan ot would have been cheaper.

Aibu to Ask for a refund between a seaview gold and a gold caravan?

What's the price for the same caravan without a Seaview, I'd expect that amount to be refunded

ThatMintMember · 16/05/2026 10:55

It's still a decent view even if you can't see much of the sea. I stayed in a Gold Lakeside caravan and was literally right on the lake, nice to look at and didn't feel particularly overlooked (millions of geese, seagulls on the roof, feathers and poo everywhere though, I wasn't a fan!). The next time we just went for a normal gold caravan but our view was a road and the lady in the opposite caravan smoking in her nightie on her steps 😂 you get what you pay for, I'd be fine with that view but I can see why you're disappointed based on the views you've had in the past.

I have never understood the paying for a view. Whenever I go on holiday I never look at the view. I’m either sleeping or out and about.

À view is usually a priority for me actually, so it still feels special even if I'm tired or don't fancy going out. Going away with kids might mean evenings spent at the accommodation so it's nice to have a view

Branleuse · 16/05/2026 11:02

deadpantrashcan · 16/05/2026 07:47

Absolutely mental. I understand there’s a lot more involved re travel, but you can get a villa in Thailand with your own swimming pool for 10 days for the same price as 3 days in this grotty UK caravan 😭

Yeah but the travel costs are probably slightly higher don't you think even if it's cheap when you get there.
Also probably a bit far for a long weekend

What’s that got to do with the OP’s problem? She does like to look at the view and this was her money and her holiday, not yours.

I absolutely love to have a beautiful view from holiday accommodation. Sure, we might be out and about most of the day, but it’s really nice to have breakfast looking out over the sea, and to sit and relax before/after we go out for dinner. One of the best short breaks I’ve ever had was in a property right on the sea in winter, and we got up early one morning and sat watching a dramatic storm rolling in as the sun was rising. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Or you can see the sea when stood on the toilet looking out of the top fanlight window 🙂

rainbowstardrops · 16/05/2026 11:44

That is definitely not a stunning sea view! It’s a glimpse of the sea behind a load of hedges! And you paid an extra £200 for that? Yeah, I’d go and speak to them too!

We stayed in a seaside last week with 'interesting' sea views and entertained ourselves quoting this at frequent intervals.

Came on to say this, lol

I'd be extremely disappointed if I'd booked a sea view and got the view you have. At best, it could be described as a partial or obstructed sea view, but realistically it more a hedge & telephone pole view.
For me, part of the holiday is the view. I like to see something completely different to home, especially if I'm sitting outside relaxing.
It reminds me of the sea view hotel room we booked in Florida. We paid a lot of money for a 3 night stay in an expensive hotel, and even more to upgrade to an ocean view. We ended up with a balcony overlooking the car park. If you leant over the balcony and looked around the side of the building, you could just about see a glimpse of the sea!!! I complained, but had to stand my ground and we were eventually moved to an actual room that fully overlooked the ocean.
Personally, if I was you I'd definitely be asking for what I'd paid for.

Notwantanyonetiknowitsme2026 · 16/05/2026 14:41

I'm going to talk to someone tomorrow as yes it's still a nice view but it is marked as stunning sea view and uninterrupted sea view. I have added more pics where I'm standing on the decking

That last picture looks like hopton.

I do think location of site plays a huge part and unfortunately they don’t edit the webpages for accommodation based on site it’s just a this is gold sea view and if every site has gold sea view the same page is displayed for every site.

Definitely a lesson for you to check the maps when booking. As a “stunning” sea view across a road and land was never going to happen at best a ah that’s nice I can see the sea.

and just as the picture says. View will vary by park. That will be their get out clause.

Bytheshaw · 16/05/2026 16:14

Ahh id be upset paying that much, id feel a bit misled, i had to really zoom in to see the sea! You could have stayed in my chalet right on the beach for about £500 for 3 nights! X

£800!! That’s wild! Even with an amazing view that is an absolute rip off!

tiramisugelato · 16/05/2026 16:44

£800 for three nights in a caravan is insane money anyway.

£800 for three nights in a caravan is insane money anyway.

It’s pretty standard in the holidays for a good caravan.

I’ve got a 4 nighter booked sea view front row in the next Easter holidays £685 before adding our early check in or wifi taking it to £747. If I upgrade to gold signature rather than just signature it will be another £180 plus.

My week long in August next year again front row sea view gold signature. Early check in and wifi is £2,175

Obviously some sites are cheaper than others. But that’s going to be based on location and facilities as well as any awards adding “prestige”.

I looked at a park dene for this summer for a week, decking sea view front row £1,700 that’s Hartlepool. The pool pants, the arcade is outdated for that price as well.

Tableforjoan · 16/05/2026 17:01

I pick a good view as I cannot stand holiday site entertainment so we are in the van of an evening 😅 but often like the location and pool.

I also don’t want to support taking real homes out of circulation for families to book air bnb type places. So caravans, camping and hotels is it.

But it isn't the holidays. It's the middle of May.

And even if it was, £800 is still an absolute rip-off IMO.

I don’t know when Scottish holidays are so figured they might be on half term already.

Just went and looked for a random weekend in June at Hafan fri-mon sea view £635 without any extras.

Though if you want cheap you can do it for £249. But I wouldn’t stay in that caravan. 🤷🏻‍♀️

RaraRachael · 16/05/2026 17:19

I can't believe 3 nights at a Haven caravan costs £800 😮

Scottish schools don't have term in the summer term.

Scottish schools don't have a May half-term, but there is a mid-term day off this Monday (one day only).

So this weekend is an extended weekend.

Then it makes sense that the price would be increased.

I did look at Craig Tara for a holiday but the reviews of dirty caravans and bedbugs put me right off.

It does make sense but it also doesn't mean £800 for 3 nights isn't a total rip-off. You could fly abroad for less and stay for longer!

Brokentoes85 · 16/05/2026 17:34

Sounds like they're milking the "view" I worked for them and the sea views were always meant to be the impressive ones, not just the ones where you can see a tiny bit of sea.
