AIBU to ask for a refund on a seaview caravan upgrade?

Generally feel like I have a point but dh thinks not.

We are currently at haven seton sands for a 3 night break which cost us just under 800 pound ( that includes 25 so we can choose our check in time)

We booked a seaview gold caravan but feel like it's definitely not worth the extra pounds especially when other caravans have s better view. If we booked just a gold caravan ot would have been cheaper.

Aibu to Ask for a refund between a seaview gold and a gold caravan?

Ah I was reading hoping you was going to say it was location on cardigan Bay Area 😅

Thats my go to for front row sea view. Now they are on the sea basically.

Also hopton right on the cliff edge. Quay west again some right on the edge.

No, he went for the cheaper site fee option 😂

But its a fab van in a lovely quiet spot, no roads by it so kids play all round the van

this was the last seaview caravan we we stayed in which is what this type is supposed to be.

Ooh where is this one, same park?!

VividDeer · 16/05/2026 08:44

I agree op. If the site doesnt have a spectacular view due to road, it shouldn't be marketed as such. Not at that price point

dudsville · 16/05/2026 08:47

You've been taken advantage of and that feels rotten. £25 to choose a check in time as well, ridiculous. That's a small fee but it says a lot. We recently went to what should have been a lovely country house hotel, photos were all very nice and grand. When we arrived it was very down at heel and v disappointing. We left early. I feel very reluctant to trust descriptions and pictures anymore.

pictoosh · 16/05/2026 08:49

I live in the Seton Sands general area (ish). I don't think there's any beachfront options because there's a ruddy great road that runs in between the sea and the site.

I agree it's pretty piss poor for a sea view...but technically that's what you've got. I'd have been disappointed too.

ByAlertHedgehog · 16/05/2026 08:51

Where is the caravan with the lovely sea view?

InterestingDuck · 16/05/2026 08:56

I do think you have a nice view from that caravan; obviously I can't compare it to other caravans on the site but not sure you have grounds for a refund. It is a view of the sea.

£800 for three nights seems very dear. We're paying less than half that for seven nights in a static in summer (not school holiday period) on a small, independent site, and it's got a view of the sea (we can be certain of this because we've stayed there before).

I suppose with Haven you are paying extra for the facilities on the site, entertainment, clubs and food. If you don't want all that, just tranquillity and lovely rural surroundings, you can find cheaper places.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 16/05/2026 08:58

I never pay extra for views. I’ve only ever had the car park once.

CoverLikelyZebra · 16/05/2026 09:01

It's perfectly normal for any holiday accommodation from which a bit of sea is visible - even if you have to peer between two towerblocks when standing in one specific location in the dining room, to have the words "sea view" in the description. If there's an actual stunningly picturesque view across a wide expanse of sea then there is a photo you can see when booking that shows just how gorgeous the view is, and the price goes up even higher. Ignore all "sea view" claims as lies when booking a holiday unless backed up by a photo that proves it.

reptilemad1985 · 16/05/2026 05:48

lol we stayed here staff where aggressive and really nasty when asked for clean bedding that had not been left soz but there a shit hole

This isn’t a Facebook community page, I think you’ve taken a wrong turn.

Tessa92 · 16/05/2026 09:18

I don’t think you can really compare the cost of a caravan on a park with a self catering cottage, as some posters here have done. On a caravan park you are paying for other facilities such as kids clubs and evening entertainment- whether you use these or not. Others have swimming pools and launderettes etc. If you don’t use these it’s up to you but those added facilities are included in the price anyway.

dottiedodah · 16/05/2026 09:31

Its worth a try I guess .Maybe you could get some money back even if they cant change it?

kurotora · 16/05/2026 09:47

£800 for Seton Sands! Bloody hell. Used to go there as a wean with mum and grandparents for a cheap few days away.

Gertibear · 16/05/2026 09:48

A bush view! I’d be fuming also, def be asking for a refund but I mean they may not give it but def try.

FoulBlister · 16/05/2026 09:52

PunnyPlumPanda · 16/05/2026 05:13

I have never understood the paying for a view. Whenever I go on holiday I never look at the view. I’m either sleeping or out and about.

OP has found just the caravan for you.

ChapmanFarm · 16/05/2026 09:53

Notwantanyonetiknowitsme2026 · 15/05/2026 23:30

At Seton Sands there's a road between you and the sea and the tide goes a long way out.

Are you on the front with nothing blocking your view?

I do agree that you are better up the hill with more of a panoramic view but you are never going to get a view like the one you posted from any part of that site.

Tableforjoan · 16/05/2026 09:56

In comparison. Havan hopton and Havan Hafan.

Both taken in the decking. Sold as front row sea view signature / signature gold.

I’ve heard the fees on there can be pretty high. I like to be close enough to enjoy hearing the crashing waves.

So I end up rather picky on locations.

Though that diamond lodge with hot tub calls my name but it’s so far back.

Poshjock · 16/05/2026 10:05

I mean technically it is a "front row" because there is no caravans in front of you, but personally I think it's wild that they are charging that amount of premium given the location and layout of the site. It's a hike to the beach and involves a pretty busy road. The beach isn't even that great, there are so many more much nicer beaches on that coastline.

If you have transport and kiddies, pack up a picnic and head the short distance around the coast to Yellowcraig park. It is absolutely stunning beach and views, it's huge so plenty space. Ample parking, toilets and a great playpark. Bit of a walk to the sand over the dunes, but worth it.

Yellowcraig | Visit East Lothian

Yellowcraig beach in East Lothian is very popular with families, with an adventure playpark, a great network of nature trails and a BBQ site

Northernladdette · 16/05/2026 10:10

You really should have gone straight to reception and expressed your disappointment. Personally I couldn’t be bothered to move caravans, especially as I was only there for three nights. £800 is an outrageous price 😣

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 16/05/2026 10:18

MajorLanceYouDontWantMeNoMoreNsoul · 16/05/2026 00:18

that immediately sprung to mind❤️it.
Then the rest of his rant..herds of wildebeest etc.

To paraphrase FT, maybe the OP should move the caravan nearer to the sea!

bakebeans · 16/05/2026 10:24

Bloody hell. £800 for 3 nights!

UtterlyUseless · 16/05/2026 10:33

OneFunBrickNewt · 16/05/2026 06:53

Complain> ask for refund> don't accept voucher, cash only.
If not fothcoming, Section 75 via bank or threaten small claims court (it's really easy to do, and you can still threaten it even if you have no intention of doing it.)
That's not a 'stunning sea view' at all.

For £800, you could have driven to Europe and stayed in a nice French campsite.

There you go op

SwirlyGates · 16/05/2026 10:34

nothingcangowrongnow · 15/05/2026 23:29

You can see the sea and you don’t look out on another caravan that side

The screenshot in the OP does claim "Staggering sea views" 😂.

Hereforthecommentz · 16/05/2026 10:38

Yes ask for a refund op, or contact your credit card company as you've been mis-sold! That is very expensive. We paid under £400 for a hot tub premium caravan in finlake Devon on a bank hol weekend. I'd not pay that much especially as it's not school holidays.
