How to offer to pay for Disney

coulditbeme2323 · 13/05/2026 09:22

Long story short we went to Disney couple of years ago - kids wanted to go back so will be going for two weeks in October half term.

Sister's kids are desperate to go, but as a family it's out of their budget. We have a great relationship with sister and BIL, but don't want to offend them (well him I know sister would be delighted)

How do we go about offering, I was thinking probably speak with her first?

@coulditbeme2323 Aww that’s lovely of you. So glad you’re going, Disney is an amazing experience in a big group.
Can I ask which hotel you’re going to, as it’s nice? I’m looking for recommendations

We are doing a split, I have watched YouTube visits on it - and from previous visits I agree it makes a lot of sense.

Days 1-6 The Grand Flordian and days 7-13 The Boardwalk inn. The Boardwalk inn is walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios - so will do those parks the second week.

So pleased it’s all worked out for you OP. We’re here now staying at the Boardwalk and having a great time. Out of curiosity, which resorts are you staying at? I’m thinking of a split stay next time.

We had no issues with immigration. In fact it was the quickest we’ve been through, We use the MPC app which lets you use a smaller line.

Grand Flordian and Boardwalk

Well, one he's not paying for. Not sure it's completely free in a broader sense.

Disney/Florida not everyone's cup off tea.

But you are right, there are much worse things to worry about - that's why I said 'a bit'

This is lovely im sure they would both be over the moon to do it together as one big family see it as a gift.
Could they do the spends maybe im sure the kids would be delighted x

I personally would never be able to accept such a gift, you paying for them all to go would feel way too awkward to me.

Edited

Me too, and yet I'd love to take my child to Disney. But money has a weird way of causing discomfort even if its meant without strings.

OP though, its a lovely thought and you should at least discuss with DSis.

YourPurpleGal · 16/05/2026 18:22

How thoughtful and kind of you to think of this. I'd suggest you have a very private chat with her. Just you two. Away from your home and her home. Take her out to a park, or for a coffee in a quiet café. Explain that you would like to give this to her, no strings attached, and that you'd be honoured and over the moon if she wants to accept. Ask how she feels. If she seems hesitant, draw her feelings out and discuss. Hopefully you'll be able to reach a positive and warm resolution. Make sure she knows you love and respect her.

I am probably worrying about nothing, I just know men can be well men.

Yes. Pride. Men can sometimes be stubborn if their role as provider feels undermined.

I'd hope your sister and you can discuss what/where/when could be the approach. Timing and tone are important to preserve his dignity.

You can get a boat from the Boardwalk which is a really lovely way to get to those parks!

could you give it as birthday gift or christmas gift etc?

Trillie · 16/05/2026 22:12

Can you say you’ve had some good luck, lottery win or whatever, and say you want to share it to rack up some good karma. If that fits with your relationship it’s a way of paying without being condescending or them feeling it’s charity.
