I can see all the sofa scientists are back out. Its as though Covid never happened.

Telling people to isolate at home is pointless, as we saw in Covid, people don’t behave and won’t follow rules.

It worked fine for swine flu - because the smaller numbers meant the quarantining was monitored strictly, as it will with these cases.

The covid isolators at arrowe park were well monitored and it worked fine.

later covid was entirely different because it was thousands of people arriving from multiple locations. This is not the same as Covid.

Now I'm envisioning the delegates breaking out for group work or coffee and it's Shaun of the Dead outside the venue.

Anyone planning to go to the Sainsbury's or Maccies at that roundabout in Upton best wear full PPE just to be on the safe side.

This this this!!!!!! 😢 I don’t understand either

The reason they’re going to Arrowe is because it’s close to the infectious diseases centre in Liverpool from where they can get treatment from specialists if they develop symptoms. They’re not being kept in the hospital, it’s a self-contained nurse’s accommodation block. They won’t have contact with any members of the public.

It’s also worth remembering that there are 20-40 cases of hantavirus every year in the United States alone, and there’s not been a pandemic yet.

cantgardenintherain · 11/05/2026 21:41

I think that a few identified people isolating is different to a whole large city of people in Wuhan travelling round the country for new year then moving across the world unchecked for weeks. Also so far these people have been negative and also the virus is more difficult to catch.

OhcantthInkofaname · 11/05/2026 21:41

I am in the US. Most of the US persons evacuated from cruise ships have been sent to my city. We have a bio containment unit that is second to none. One person is completely isolated within this unit and I think another 17 are in a lesser type of isolation.
I am going to go to this medical center tomorrow for a nuclear stress test and an visit with my cardiologist. I am not afraid.

TipsyLaird · 11/05/2026 21:42

Also at the end of next week I am travelling to Liverpool to board a cruise ship. I am clearly doomed.

And if you’re speaking from anywhere in the vicinity of London, you can’t seriously be saying the North is less safe than Khan’s crime ridden London? I visited there last weekend, and there were police cars all over the place, sirens blasting out. The locals didn’t bat an eyelid, which leads me to think it’s pretty much the norm in our capital city.

Focacciaisyum · 11/05/2026 21:36

Or maybe some people who are suspicious of what's happening here want the 20 people quarantined in the facility for the whole 6 weeks rather than being 'asked' to self isolate at home is because they DONT want another lockdown?

You can’t quarantine people every time there’s an illness talked about in the media.

There isn’t going to be another lockdown. This isn’t a new virus. There are over 100000 cases a year globally and the world has not yet descended into a pandemic over it.

We had the same hysteria over monkeypox and meningitis and oh look, all a storm in a teacup.

There has been 0 suggestion that this is going to bring about another lockdown, other than the hysteria of the scaremongerers out there.

The same could be said of the OP.

What the OP who came looking for advice as they suffer with health anxiety?

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · 11/05/2026 21:39

Why would they not?
If they dont do things by the book they will have much more work to do with more people in hospital

Not saying any incompetence would be done on purpose. It would just be incompetence by incompetent people. I mean they struggle with even the most basic stuff, so I’m not sure whether I’d trust the NHS to do anything out of their normal routine.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/05/2026 21:20

We are technically Wools or plastic Scousers but no one knows where New Bo is so I would always say I’m from Liverpool

Also if you tell a Scouser you are from the Wirral they think you are posh! Yeah Seacombe and Liscard so very posh!

Those are some of his old stamping grounds. I think he lived in Seacombe for a while.😁

For UK health security agency and infectious disease specialists this is their normal routine

Waffle about the curve

During one of the recent meningitis outbreaks, someone on here was demanding that Chris Whitty be wheeled out to deliver reassuring messages again, as if failing to do so was ignoring the problem causing people to fear that 'it was all being covered up'.

How long before the same happens over this?

JustAnotherWhinger · 11/05/2026 21:52

FasterMichelin · 11/05/2026 21:14

“Monitored” - umm… ok.

Look forward to seeing what that looks like in reality 👍

During swine flu it was 2-4 calls a day, at random times, with police attendance if you didn’t answer and the threat of arrest if you left your home.

I had the police attendance my door at 2am because I slept through the phone call. The next night at 3am I burst into tears on that call as I’d had 5 calls that day (because I didn’t answer one) and just wanted to sleep.

They’ll only be release under strict protocols as the authorities know we cannot afford Hanta in the general population from this, especially because general lockdowns wouldn’t work.

I think they’ll be under even tighter monitoring than swine flu because of the Covid issues. There’s no guarantee they’ll even be allowed to leave arrowe park yet.

I live 2 miles from Arrowe Park hospital and I’m not worried.
Liverpool is over the water, miles away.

If my auntie looks out of her back bedroom window she can see the isolation unit through some trees. She has to drive past it to get to Sainsburys. She's going to Sainsburys tomorrow to do her weekly shop. Does anyone need anything?

Uncalled for classism.

Not classism, just plain old twattishness. There are plenty of middle and upper class people in the north.

I loved just on the boarder off Manor Road - lovely memories of the cinema and sweet shop that way
