I’ve just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool?! They’ve been brought to Liverpool? I’ve got a 2 day work conference there and now I’m worried 😢 I suffer terribly with health anxiety. AIBU?

I’m hoping we’ll get at least three out of this. I bet Michelle Mone is rubbing her hands in glee.

Isn't there a warehouse (air conditioned)or two stuffed to the rafters with PPE somewhere in the cold dark North?

ghostyslovesheets · 11/05/2026 22:06

Actually think I’ll get it - my mum is going to visit when she gets back from France - via the deadly Wirral

these things come in 3’s

my dad died Thursday
some twat hit my car tonight

stands to reason!

Which will be instantly moved South if needed!

If you hear any phlegmy voices it’s perfectly normal

How to single-handedly offend people from the Wirral. Tell them they are from Liverpool. I have relatives who live so close to Arrowe Park hospital that if you threw a ball out of their front garden it's land in the car park. They are not worried.

My sister is due to have a baby in the hospital next week
she is not worried

If I had to go up north Hantavirus would be the least of my worries.

Has anyone ever told you that You. Are. Hilarious. I mean, where does one acquire such wit and the the novelty of what you say is just chef's kiss.

OonaStubbs · 11/05/2026 22:13

It's ridiculous that they were brought to this country. They should have isolated on the boat.

Unless they are speaking a different language in which case you’ve gone wrong and are in North Wales

Butterme · 11/05/2026 22:14

I honestly don’t know how some MNers ever leave their homes with the amount of hysteria and anxiety they have.

Thanks - it’s okay we where estranged but it’s left a messy international mess to sort out x

Is your 2-day conference in the infectious disease unit of the hospital? If so, YANBU to be worried. Any other place YABU.

🤣

planespotter71 · 11/05/2026 22:15

I moved from Liverpool 7 years ago you’re right to be worried it’s grim there now!! I visit family weekly and when I come out of the station, the first thing I see are beggars, druggies, Irish bars with fat, tattooed middle aged men outside shouting, and rubbish everywhere. I used to stick up for the city but now I see how much it’s changed im so glad I left. It used to be well known for the friendly scousers but they’re a dying breed now 😕

@Elliana and @HarriaHen - You might want a look at this. While I'm not interested in scaremongering, I'm also sceptical of complacency. Even (or especially )when it's being promoted by the UKHSA.

On the index patient in Epuyén, Argentina:
During the 90 minutes he was at the party, he infected five others, including two people sitting roughly a foot from him at the same table and two people who were sitting roughly 4 feet away from him at neighboring tables. The fifth person to catch the virus crossed paths with the patient only briefly on their way to the restroom.

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/06/health/andes-strain-hantavirus-explained

At no point in that article do they mention anything relating to a pandemic. In fact this passage specifically makes that clear. "“This is not Covid. This is really not Covid. It’s not even influenza. It’s an unusual person-to-person event, and it might have happened because, perhaps, of a closed environment on a ship,” said Dr. Lucille Blumberg, an infectious disease specialist who is the former deputy director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa, of the cruise ship outbreak."

It's a nasty disease yes that causes outbreaks in rare human to human transmission. Outbreaks are not pandemics.

Oh yes, let's leave people who have been exposied to a disease that's more easily passed on when people are in close quarters to each other on a cruise ship that's already contaminated instead of a sterile hospital where they can have access to medical treatment and doctors. Very clever idea.

😁
We had containers full of hand gel in the car park at work because it was a fire risk to have so much alcohol gel in the warehouse.
I am also in the cold dark North.

But spray them with bleach before delivering them!

Are you sure that’ll be enough? Should they not be crisped up in the oven?

Shortbread49 · 11/05/2026 21:25

Birkenhead and liscard are big push but Heswall, West Kirby and Caldy are especially Caldy houses that are a few million ! Can buy a whole street in Birkenhead for that

Yep
i would love the sniffy ‘the north’ view to see some of the houses in Caldy 😂
I had some excellent early twenties wild parties in those amazing properties

maturemummy · 11/05/2026 22:27

Give me strength 🤦‍♀️

Shortbread49 · 11/05/2026 22:30

Yes especially Croft drive easy in Caldy houses with a tennis court and room for a pony as another famous person from Birkenhead would say

TinyGingerCat · 11/05/2026 22:30

I heard that the only reason they are going to Arrowe Park was because some of the cruise passengers had an important conference they needed to get to in Liverpool, and that’s why they only need to isolate for 72 hours.

HelenaWaiting · 11/05/2026 22:30

mumstheword1x · 11/05/2026 21:11

This strain of hantavirus is between humans.. that’s the worry?

You don't actually know that - if it is, it would likely be a new strain. There is only one known strain of hantavirus that can be transmitted human to human, and that is found in South America. The likelihood is, the source is on the ship and all the patients thus far have had direct contact with the source. I feel for you, since you clearly have anxiety, but your scaremongering is objectionable. You're clearly not an epidemiologist so stop it with your nonsense.

Shortbread49 · 11/05/2026 22:31

East I mean , but if the conference us in Liverpool you will be far enough away from it
