To want stability in this country and to be fed up of all the witch hunts

So sick of the media and now everyone else constantly wanting political unrest.

Really since David Cameron its been a trend. Let's find dirt and oust the PM. They dont care what party it is, they just like gossip and resignation and arent happy until they get it. Then they start all over again....

I'm not saying i care about any particular one staying in power, i just want stability and honestly why would the good MPs want that job when theyve seen whay happens to you.

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 11/05/2026 19:15

If we had PR and as a result had to have coalition governments, there would be more stability. And also probably a higher average quality of government minister.

BeardySchnauzer · 11/05/2026 19:17

I think countries with coalition governments would disagree!

no electoral system is perfect unfortunately

the professionalisation of the political class hasn’t helped either

There are a lot of threads on this very subject in AIBU for some reason.

Probably because many people are sick of these internal dramas and just want the elected MPs to focus on what they were elected and paid to do. I’m sick and tired of the incessant criticism of Starmer and I’m not even a Labour voter this time around.

Badbadbunny · 11/05/2026 19:30

I fully agree with the OP.

The media did it with Tim Farron (short term Lib Dem leader) due to his Christian beliefs. He's a very popular local MP in Kendal (Cumbria) and talks a lot of sense. He could well have continued the LibDems "rise" after Nick Clegg, and would have almost certainly been a lot more popular, with a lot more MPs than the hapless Ed Davey who's basically led the LibDems on a downward path. Maybe even taken the Libdems to another coalition or even become PM himself given the recent unpopularity of both Labour and the Tories.

BeardySchnauzer · 11/05/2026 19:33

And tbh, why would anyone want to become PM at the moment? They are either so power hungry they don’t care they’re taking over a sinking ship or so arrogant that they think they have the answer (but aren’t willing to share that with the current leadership🤔)

Namingbaba · 11/05/2026 19:36

There is a massive problem with the job being very unattractive. Who would want to be PM? You get blamed for everything wrong in the country on day one and it’s not like big problems can be fixed straightaway.

I think the way MPs and the PM is treated has put off a lot of good candidates. Mediocre PMs are more likely to be hounded to leave.

Obviously members of parliament should have scrutiny and we’ve had some really bad ones. I mean Liz Truss should have never been PM and had to quit due to her stupidity.

24 hour rolling news has been a disaster. They have to find something to talk about whatever.

Absolutely, and the internet and click-driven journalism has only made it worse. Everything is rage bait for clicks now, and I’m sick of it.

BeardySchnauzer · 11/05/2026 19:47

And also governing by leaking - we don’t live in a country where we decide everything through referendum so why float things past the press to see if it’s popular or not. Just because people don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do!

ProudAmberTurtle · 11/05/2026 19:48

The people just want lower taxes and lower immigration.

It really is that simple.

Cheesipuff · 11/05/2026 19:55

PineappleSunrise · 11/05/2026 19:45

Absolutely, and the internet and click-driven journalism has only made it worse. Everything is rage bait for clicks now, and I’m sick of it.

But the Pm and MPs don’t need to respond to it!!
eg Angela Rayners housing issue - why didn’t she say I paid Joe bloggs the solicitor to deal with my CGT ,or whatever it was, and he messed up -we are both extremely sorry and remedying this at once - end of.
Rachel reeves lied on her cv -she is apologising profusely and now concentrating on this policy and that to help the GDP. The end.
Just because Kemi Badenoch rants I dont think that there has to be a denial/long winded explanation- just say you are doing x,y.y to improve the economy and move on - there’ll be another headline tomorrow.

to add if MPs would be truthful from the start it would help

Hesperatum · 11/05/2026 20:00

The Labour mps all need to grow up and try and work together rather than mounting a popularity contest. The media, as a previous poster so rightly said, are mainly to blame as they are owned by billionaires who wish to see Farage and his ilk I charge. I foresee mayhem.

hobbledyhoy · 11/05/2026 20:02

acourtofmistandfury · 11/05/2026 18:34

The media want Farage in because the media is owned by the billionaires that he protects. They don’t care about the ordinary people in this country

Absolutely this, and I for one am fucking sick of the fact that nobody in politics calls this out.

SquirrelSoShiny · 11/05/2026 20:20

I'm starting to feel utter contempt for the British electorate. Catching up on my contempt for the American electorate.

Cheesipuff · 12/05/2026 06:11

The poor old electorate have been saying please get immigration under control since Tony Blair opened the doors to east Europeans in 2000s, I remember Theresa May as Home Sec promising to get it below 250,000 a year and she failed - so we then got Brexit and now what was probably the most inclusive country in the west turned into a racist nut house - and Labour despite the threat of Farage are still pussy footing ,though Shabama Mahmoud has made changes, unfortunately it is a drop iin the ocean as our population continues to soar - FGS change the laws if that is what is needed .what we are spending on hotels and policing will break us

TY78910 · 12/05/2026 06:53

I do think a lot of it isn’t just regular media but social media. It’s created a space where people have an echo chamber of content that fuels certain narratives. Not just people they interact with, but algorithms that churn out the same viewpoints.

Ive also noticed that since all the COVID scandals we’ve become a nation that feels we can just say ‘don’t like what this person did / said’ so we must get rid and put someone else in place because of how quickly we were going through PMs in that time.

cloudtreecarpet · 12/05/2026 06:56

ProudAmberTurtle · 11/05/2026 19:48

The people just want lower taxes and lower immigration.

It really is that simple.

And they also want great public services and an improved NHS but unfortunately those things need to be paid for - by taxation.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 12/05/2026 06:57

I'd love for those who are calling for Starmers resignation to come up with one solid reason why that has not come from the Daily Fail

BeardySchnauzer · 12/05/2026 06:58

I think the Gordon brown ‘awful woman’ comment was indicative of the problem - politicians not willing to listen to people because they know best and the ordinary person just needs to be told

so when a grifter like farage comes along banging on about an issue people are worried about - people want to get the politicians to sit up and listen so vote for him - but instead they’re getting ‘you’re a racist, how do we educate you?’

Freysimo · 12/05/2026 07:00

anniegun · 11/05/2026 18:29

The Daily Mail is the worst- that absurdity of front page after front page about whether Starmer had a beer after a meeting. It went on for week, it was not news it was a hate driven campaign

Did you complain when ìt was about Boris and cake?

cloudtreecarpet · 12/05/2026 07:00

hobbledyhoy · 11/05/2026 20:02

Absolutely this, and I for one am fucking sick of the fact that nobody in politics calls this out.

Exactly this. I've said it before on other threads - Farage & Reform are wolves in sheep's clothing who are exploiting ordinary people's unhappiness for their own ends. Farage is supported by billionaires who want him in for the inevitable tax cuts and policies favouring the rich that he will bring in. He doesn't give a monkeys about ordinary working people but it seems we will have to live out this nightmare until it's actually believed.

tttigress · 12/05/2026 07:01

I am no Starmer fan, but I have to agree this is a media led story.

Feels like the media will say anything to keep a story going. Like when we were coming out of COVID yet the media were agitating for more lock downs.

Cheesipuff · 12/05/2026 07:03

but our present gov and the Tories have failed again and again -how many decades should we wait

Myoldbear · 12/05/2026 07:03

decorationday · 11/05/2026 18:33

It's like another manifestation of everyone's shortened attention spans. "Oh, the PM hasn't magically fixed problems that were decades in the making and aggravated by global events - let's boot him out and give someone else their 15 minute slot."

The man is not a fucking magician.

Yes, how Starmer has been treated is a symptom of our society today.

No one can stand slow and steady, when that is nearly always what works best.

Only frantic, frenetic and exciting action will do. It will be disastrous not to keep the PM.

MidnightPatrol · 12/05/2026 07:05

Agreed - both politicians and newspapers are just constantly on the attack. It is of no benefit to the UK.

They will defend that by saying ‘we are holding them to account’, but someone sneezes and they’re suggesting people should be quitting their jobs etc.

Cheesipuff · 12/05/2026 07:06

Posters are implying that a great gov and PM is being trashed by lies in the media when the gov and Starmer have been laughably rubbish at fixing anything in fact have made it harder for businesses and backtracked time and again -unforgivable imv as they obviously didn’t do due diligence
its the gov not the media

to add -I didn’t expect everything fixed I just wanted to see a plan for our future, and maybe some honesty- instead false promises (all the house building?)
