AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

Mmm my friends brother lives in Norway - never heard anyone walking around nude

your stretching the truth somewhat

Edited

Not really, this was explained to me when I went to Norway, by a Norwegian.
I haven’t made it up ! And no, he wasn’t having a joke at all. Deadly serious.

I’m Scandinavian and although we don’t have an issue with nudity in general we are only really naked when it makes sense, such as going to/from the shower, in the sauna, in swimming pool showers etc. Nobody I know sits down to the family dinner not clothed.

Yes, perhaps this is more what was meant. But the premise being that nudity was not ‘a thing’ but considered entirely natural.

Well what I’ve read is similar the the Scandinavian poster that responded to you

it’s not what they do - they wear clothes indoors

perhaps your friend had another agenda going on

No the poster thinks everyone is in the buff cos it’s Norway

Your first post just said “bodies aren’t dysfunctional” - then you went on to give situational caveats and now you’ve said pants are just shorts - so presume it’s ok to go out in pants - they clearly are not shorts - you would get arrested for sure - men in shorts in Macdonald’s with no top (which ia regular in summer) is now men in pants no top - quite quite different things

on the contrary - I think it would be teaching children the opposite of privacy and my own body in terms of empowering them around sexual abuse - it would be saying men can walk around and eat their dinner In pants and that’s ok - if you see it out in the world don’t be alarmed - whereas you need the to be alarmed

is not being too modest to have clothing standards - it’s teaching respect for your body and others

read the poster from Scandinavia where the are much more forward thinking about nudity - the benchmark countries really - they wouldn’t sit down to dinner in knickers

I don’t think parent being dressed while they’re at home prevents sexual abuse by others to be honest. I’d be interested if you had any data that shows that modesty at home has a correlation between lower sexual abuse statistics. I don’t think body’s are dysfunctional and I think people being more undressed in their own homes is cannot be conflated as then being acceptable in McDonald’s. Because societally, we don’t go out in public without being dressed, and so that would be a deviation from the norm, and would make people uncomfortable. Its normal in my house for us to be in underwear/naked/just a T-shirt. But it’s also normal in my house to have sex. I don’t think that’s unnatural or dysfunctional but I’m not doing that in McDonald’s either

I don’t think seeing parents in underwear means that children will then not understand appropriate boundaries in public either.

SweetValleyHighPriestess · 08/05/2026 18:54

I’ve only heard of Homer Simpson doing this.

What a load of codswallop.

Wearing just your pants in the day time signifies.. wanting to not wear anything but pants.

Nothing more.

You don't have to do it yourself, or like it, but making all that bullshit up is just silly.

My DP has done the bathroom, bird feeders, kitchen, laundry, poo picked the back yard, hoovered the whole house and done a 40 minute trip out to pick up our monthly dog food order.

He is currently just wearing pants, he was wearing just pants for his morning coffee. He was fully clothed for all tasks that involved going outside the house. Clothes can be removed AND put back on! He'll put them back on to walk the dogs in a bit too.

Who says adults HAVE to wear all their clothes indoors all the time? Come summer and its too hot down here but I have to work, I will absolutely be wearing knickers and a bra and bugger all else. Its my house and I'll do as I please in it.

You are agreed

OP is not

My dad did this and it was awful growing up in the house with him. He often didn’t wear pants either. God I hated it!

Same for me, I feel your pain.

Since I have been there I really don’t ! All I was pointing out was that we do have a thing about nudity here. And some countries don’t. Not that the OP’s hubby is nude. He has his pants on.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 08/05/2026 18:56

My Dad was a bit like this. DH tends to strip to tshirt and boxers but usually v late at night when no one is likely to call around. If he does need to nip out or answer the door, he’ll put his trousers back on

That sounds much more normal to me

Malinia · 08/05/2026 18:58

Ugh, that would give me the ick. No it's not normal, I think it's pretty uncouth to be honest. We wear clothes in our house. Children especially don't want to see their parents in their underwear in the living room! I honestly find it bizarre that he does this.

I think it’s more about appropriateness - not sitting around on furniture sweating and shedding skin where others have to sit - dropping chest hair in the bolognaise while cooking

and my house was Scandinavian rules outlined by poster above

He also wears pj bottoms sometimes… but not in the summer… understandable! I want him to be comfy! I recently got rid of his dressing gown as I really didn’t like it 🙈 I’m going to get him a new one tho!

Thebigarsedbitch · 08/05/2026 19:02

Yuk! This sounds incredibly slobby. Why can't he just change into a t-shirt and jogging bottoms/shorts like normal people? This would really ick me out to the extent that I wouldn't be able to have sex with him - there's something unpleasantly pervy about it and a complete lack of respect for you. It will be awful for your kids as they grow up and friends round to play. For me, this would be a LTB situation.

That's even weirder - clothes on/off/on/off! Why not just be an adult and.....wear clothes?

His disgusting sweaty body all over the couch.

Was it grey towelling? With snagging?

dressing gown of doom

Isn’t it interesting that this thread isn’t full of examples of women walking around half naked at home ‘because clothes rub’ etc

Yes - we have jobs to do!!! I

Myli1 · 08/05/2026 19:08

For me it depends on the temperature. In the summer I can’t wait to strip off my work clothes as soon as I get home. As long as it’s warm enough I probably wouldn’t bother putting anything on again unless I was going out. I should say though it’s only DP and I at home, I wouldn’t wander around the house naked if my kids were home.

Thechaseison71 · 08/05/2026 19:10

Poetnojo · 08/05/2026 17:00

You don't think there's a difference between walking around in a pair of underpants or in a pair of Bermuda style shorts?

What about speedo lol. Or cropped shorts

Tbh I can't see the issue

Myli1 · 08/05/2026 19:11

BambooLampshade · 08/05/2026 16:59

Urgh. That is horrible.

Really? What do you find ‘horrible’ about a human body?

Blossoms217 · 08/05/2026 19:11

I'm laughing so much at this thread 😂 my dad did exactly the same I never thought much of it tbh
