AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

Underpants more comfortable

I never said they weren't, but that doesn't mean everyone should just walk around in only underwear all the time at home if they share a house with other people.

Some people (myself included) just prefer not to wear clothes when temperature and situation allow. I don’t see any issue with that if it’s within the confines of their own home or garden.

Even if you knew it made your partner and child uncomfortable?

No, obviously not. Fortunately DP has broadly the same mindset and my children are grown up and don’t live with us.

I'm sorry for your predicament OP but this has really tickled me, because I read this thread in full agreement with your DH that nakey is normal and everyone does it.

Apparently not, from the votes! Whoops...😅

He certainly shouldn't use it as an excuse not to answer the door etc., that's what dressing gowns are for. But it sounds exhausting to me to be ready for visitors/outside at all times.

SpaDaysForAll · 09/05/2026 17:12

Depends how fit he looks in his pants

I would have thought that for most people it isn't as they wouldn't be warm enough.

So did you think that everyone just stripped off when they got home?

Fine if you live alone. If there are other people in the house, it's grim, and unnacceptable Put a t-shirt on for goodness sake, even if it's a sleeveless one/vest top, and a pair of light jogging bottoms or pyjama bottoms. I wouldn't be living with anyone who thinks it's OK to sit around (and wander around) the house in their fecking knickers, and nothing else! Hmm

Let's face it, the vast majority of men are NOT going to look 'fit' wearing just their knickers and nothing else. 🙄

Why is it ‘unacceptable’, providing others in the house are of the same mindset? 🤔

In this case - WHICH THIS THREAD IS ABOUT (and in the vast majority of cases,) no-one else in the house will want to parade around in their knickers and nothing else.

But you know that don't you?

I get home, go upstairs, have a wash and getting straight into my pyjamas.

I don’t strip off everything at the door and then walk into the living room in my bra and pants.

Yea it’s great to be comfortable, but if this means all the “jobs” are left to you because he’s sat in his pants then that’s not fair at all. I also think that sitting on your sofa/chairs with sweat from work and daily grime is disgusting. …..Is this the reason why you don’t like it? Or is it his physical appearance?

Where does he put the clothes that he takes off?

I wouldn’t say it’s not normal, because everyone is different; but if it’s hindering his ability to a productive member of his own household, then yes I’d be pissed off.

If you’re reading this husband…… come in, go upstairs AND WASH! Then come down in clean pants and with your dressing down over your arm, so if you need to nip to the car? You CAN!

Jane143 · 09/05/2026 17:53

I personally would find that repulsive and also the fuel bills in winter would be high

Isinglass20 · 09/05/2026 17:53

Any different from the pool at my gym where recently a fine figure of a man walked slowly passed the almost all ladies of a certain age aquarobics class with his skimpy speedos. Still not calmed down 🤣🤣

And the difference between pants and shorts is...

I worked with a woman who couldn't function at home unless she was in joggers and a tee shirt

One is underwear, one is outerwear?

BunnyLake · 09/05/2026 17:58

Is his name Murray Goldberg? (Sitcom based on the true family of the writer). His dad always stripped to his Y fronts when got home 🫣

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/05/2026 17:59

This reminds me of the dad in Friday Night Dinner!

Your exact words were “If there are other people in the house, it's grim, and unnacceptable”. I’m asking in general why you think people shouldn’t be naked in their own home if everyone in that household is agreeable?

gardenflowergirl · 09/05/2026 18:08

I don't know anyone that does that. My first thought is that your house must be too hot, turn the heating down so he starts to feel chilly, then he might put his clothes back on. I also think it's quite unhygienic to have bare skin on sofas and arm chairs, they'll get dirty and smelly, I mean you can't wash those like you can wash clothes. Throw ice cubes at him at every opportunity...😆

outerspacepotato · 09/05/2026 18:11

Get him a caftan.

Is he an exhibitionist?

Does he do this in front of kids? Ew. Great way for your kids to have zero friends and unacceptable.

If he's doing it because then he doesn't have to do anything involving going outside, then ew. Lazy.

I'd be turned off.

I get dressed to go to the shop but as soon as I get home clothes come off and I'm in vest and pants. If anyone comes to the door I throw a robe on. I run hot all year round and sleep with my bedroom window open even if it's —10° outside and it's because I'm ND. A lot of ND people have problems regulating body temperature. I also have sensory issues with clothes.

For OPs sake I hope he’s one of the few 😜

He would never even leave the bedroom if he wasn't wearing some form of top and bottoms, would never even walk around top less at home either.

Wow - really? That's surprising. Is he very self conscious?

Sounds absolutely normal to me. If you’re not dressed, you can’t do anything. Open the door, go to the garage, pop to the shops, whatever. If you’re not dressed, it’s just a nuisance.

Bloke? When I was at school, I once had to call round at the house of another student. Mum answered the door in bra and pants. We thought she was a bit mad, tbh and certainly embarrassing. Can you not find lighter, respectable clothes?

Laurmolonlabe · 09/05/2026 18:25

D
This isn't something anyone in my family or friend group has ever done, so no it doesn't sound normal to me- but it's his home, so dressing gown in every room and by the door in case you have visitors or he needs to pop out.
Just curious how on earth do you afford to keep the house that warm for him to do it in the dead of winter?
