To ask if you had terrible embarrassing lip filler swelling

CurdinHenry · 08/05/2026 14:22

How long it took to go down to normal again?

I have the most embarrassing bruises and puffiness ever and also an appointment with my psychiatrist on Monday (these two things are not related I just don't want him to think I'm madder than usual)

If you are my psychiatrist and it hasn't died down by Monday I guess this is pretty outing

I always get my lips done on a Friday so that generally speaking the swelling has gone down for work by Monday 😂

Is this a new practitioner?? I switched and my new one is much better and I barely notice any bruising or swelling at all - it’s actually not normal to look butchered after the procedure, as I originally thought.

You’re not supposed to use ice on it but potentially arnica gel after the first 24 hours are over. Just hydrate as best as possible and get some good sleep and you should be fine for Monday. Concealer on any edges where there’s bruising.

Remember they always look massive to you but not for other people!

Thanks - she is v experienced but I've never seen her before and she did seem a bit flustered. I have two big dark bruises (and if honest I'm not sure how good it looks under the swelling - maybe some lips are simply not meant to be filled!).

I didn't tell my husband but fortunately he's fairly incurious about things like this (he will ask about the bruises tho).

Crossing fingers for normal by Monday!!

How bad is the swelling?
If you're posting here then surely your husband will notice

I did think about getting a tiny bit of filler, but perhaps not. I didn't think it was normal to look butchered afterwards.

Giftspread · 08/05/2026 16:55

Oh dear, hope your husband doesn't try to kiss you!

Not for 24 hours that's for sure.

Idk how normal it is to look bad but I'm very glad I don't have to look serious tomorrow for any reason

There is swelling outside the lipline I very much hope that's temporary

Can you post a pic?

ICanStillSayIDontRemember · 09/05/2026 08:45

I swell really badly every time and bruise but it does settle quickly and it is much more noticeable to you than other people.

CurdinHenry · 09/05/2026 10:11

I just blew the bank in boots on random concealers and extra long lasting lipstick (which is probably going to make me feel weirder but there we are). The most frustrating one is a bruise right next to my lip so I can't even put lipstick on.

Husband due home in an hour will see if he notices. Fingers crossed it is worth it afterwards am feeling a bit silly ATM.

How are the lips goings @CurdinHenry ?

autumnboys · 11/05/2026 06:19

This happened to me the one time I had filler, I used to take aspirin daily and although I put it on the form the technician missed it. My husband didn’t notice, but my mum did immediately and took me aside to see if everything was okay. It only lasted a couple of days, I think arnica helped.

awfulapril · 11/05/2026 06:22

Lolol. It looks terrible the first morning.

Growingaseed · 11/05/2026 06:39

Sorry ladies to those saying 'it looks noticeable to you and not other people'

It definitely is noticeable to other people and looks awful. I appreciate that might be unkind but I think you are deluding yourselves because people have been too nice to be honest.

I see a lot of girls that look like a duck and have completely destroyed their face (hopefully temporarily).

I agree with the person above - if you really want it try a different practitioner because a lot of people doing fillers will not be any good. Remember you do not need to have any qualifications in the UK!!

Very true. Lip filler is the first thing I notice about anyone with filled lips. It's painfully obvious as it creates a very artificial lip shape and is generally out of proportion with your other features. I would never comment on it, you're free to do whatever you wish to your face, but everyone notices it.

DoubleShotEspressox · 11/05/2026 09:38

There’s a lot of shit lip filler out there I agree, and you’ll notice the obvious shelf-lips or duck pouts. But done well, you don’t know. So you can’t say that ALL lip fillers are shit and look awful.

Feelslikeaneternity · 11/05/2026 09:42

I had it done once by a “practitioner” and got badly bruised and swollen. Now I pay more and have it done by a doctor, he does tiny needles and it takes longer but far less pain and you can’t tell after unless you know me well. I think it might be a case of getting what you pay for I’m afraid.

This. It doesn’t look like you have full lips, it looks like you have lip filler. I really hope this awful fad comes to an end as it’s dangerous and completely needless. Reading this thread is quite sad.

Is this not selection bias: the ones that are overdone are really noticeable so you know that they’ve had it, but you probably don’t realise how many people you walk past every day who have it done and you don’t notice. I have a tiny bit in my top lip. None in my bottom. My top lip is very thin naturally. I really don’t think this looks obvious!

I agree. The fact that most people who have them look so obvious - my DH thinks they’re absolutely ridiculous and he’s right!

Have to say I think it does look obvious, I can see the ridge that appears after lip filler and it will be more obvious from the side too

NO lips are meant to be filled 😆

I know quite a few people who have had this procedure and it honestly doesn’t look good on anyone, although that’s my own opinion, I guess others think differently otherwise they wouldn’t have it done. If it makes someone feel better, then why not 😂

I hope it’s better today.

jeaux90 · 11/05/2026 09:56

It is - your top lip looks swollen - like mine was when someone smacked a door in my face as a kid 😬.

It definitely looks bigger than it naturally should do.
