My weddings going to be cancelled by a rat virus isn’t it!

We tried to get married in May 2020 and after trying for 18 months gave up. Lost loads of money in deposits. We are now finally in the position to be able to afford to get married again and we’re just about to book it for October.

It feels like history is repeating itself with recent news, and the world wants me to be a spinster. Is it going to happen again? I just don’t want to get my hopes up yet again for the same thing to happen!

You actually don't need a lot of money to get married or wait for pandemics. Calm yourself.

EvangelinaMae · 10/05/2026 07:50

Just do it at a registry office. You can book those pretty quickly. Have your party for show when you can if you're that bothered about having one.

If you’re that worried about it, elope.

MummyMaryUK · 10/05/2026 09:30

Wow, this is quite possibly the most overly dramatic, ridiculous, post I have ever seen on here...and that's saying something.

No. It's not.

Me, myself and I

Both this, even though I never wanted that myself, and I have zero idea why the OP is taking such a huge amount of stick on this thread!

All I can think is that she struck a nerve, because there really are similarities with the start of Covid and her gut reaction isn't at all unreasonable.

She’s getting flack because she sounds ridiculous. Much like all the fear mongers desperately trying to make this Covid 2.0

I still take precautions against covid, however I am not massively concerned currently about hantavirus (although feel sorry for those involved and think the public health response could be better 😬).
I think your wedding will be able to go ahead fine, especially if it's in this country.
I do however urge people to wear a quality mask for international travel, on crowded public transport and in healthcare settings (especially a&e, doctors surgeries etc). I think that's sensible regardless of hantavirus but hearing how this has taken everyone by surprise, if more people were doing this as standard perhaps we would have a better grip on it.

No. Because to the fear mongering bullshit. Honestly? Really. Being healthy has nothing to do with wearing masks and living in some kind of constant fear. You can be thoughtful to others without doing all that crap, but honestly switch off the TV and I can tell you there would be no need for masks, just general common sense.

She sounds like a bride excited about a white wedding who's afraid it's all going to disappear again to me.

I don't know why MN has to be so hard on people when they're just using it to chat as if they were with a friend.

Bifster · 10/05/2026 12:05

I'd be more worried about the israel/US/Iran situation IF I were marrying abroad. Book a nice wedding somewhere in the UK and worry about sorting that.. Dont pat too much attention to the rat virus. Africa Ebola is much deadlier and transmissable. Outbreaks of that have been well contained. The media LOVE to catastrophic.
Trust me...I'm a social worker.

NonViolentProtest · 10/05/2026 12:53

I don't think a rat virus can cancel your wedding. They don't know how to use a phone.

Mossey55 · 10/05/2026 14:06

You are not being unreasonable you are being ridiculous

Chill out mate and turn that “narrative box they call a tv off” - I stopped during Covid because I couldn’t cope with the indoctrination via TV or them trying to keep us hooked to tune in for the next episode. I haven’t watched the news since, nothing of any use to me. I don’t miss it. Barely watch any Tv now

This is me! Did exactly the same thing. Switched off the fear mongering crap and realised how much stress we absorb from it. Guess what? Most of it is not true! It’s designed to keep you in perpetual fear which in turn makes you easier to control. The spread of so called rat virus would stop if everybody turned off the TV and just got on with their lives. I still can’t believe how much people buy into it.

I keep up with all the need as I dont think hiding away helps I just dont think constantly choosing to panic helps so watch and take it in then move on

there was certainly something nasty and very Covid like around a bit earlier, my dad had it in nov 2019

AI says: Sewage analysis, or wastewater-based epidemiology, has provided evidence that SARS-CoV-2 was circulating globally earlier than initial clinical cases indicated, with studies finding traces of the virus in wastewater as early as December 2019 in Europe and potentially earlier in other regions.

Are you saying that most of the 6 o'clock news bulletin on BBC1 is not true?

Imdunfer · 11/05/2026 08:58

Are you saying that most of the 6 o'clock news bulletin on BBC1 is not true?

Yes.

I’ve done a lot of things over the years but I have mainly worked as a freelance writer. One of those jobs was for the BBC. Most of what you see on ANY news in propaganda to push agendas. No, I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I’ve just seen what I’ve seen.

Hiredwretch · 11/05/2026 09:55

Typical man here. Are you deeply religious? If not my aunt and uncle managed at the Registry Office and a few friends at a pub. Saved thousands. No lost deposits. Had plenty of smart clothes already. Potential other guests might have been disappointed but so what?

I stopped believing the BBC a very long time ago. So make of my comment what you will. Hugely exaggerated and full of fear porn. So yes pretty much. My opinion though.

Gouki · 11/05/2026 12:03

Dont worry, I got the humourous nature of your post. 🙂

This exactly!!! It’s all about pushing agendas and fear porn is one of them. Keep people scared and they will do as they are told, the biggest form of control. It’s not a conspiracy! Thank you for clearing that up!

I usually just Keep my mouth shut on it to be honest, or people start jumping up and down and shouting conspiracy, that gets very boring! But I know what I’ve seen.
