My weddings going to be cancelled by a rat virus isn’t it!

We tried to get married in May 2020 and after trying for 18 months gave up. Lost loads of money in deposits. We are now finally in the position to be able to afford to get married again and we’re just about to book it for October.

It feels like history is repeating itself with recent news, and the world wants me to be a spinster. Is it going to happen again? I just don’t want to get my hopes up yet again for the same thing to happen!

Experts have said it's not the same. Even if it was, I doubt they'd have lockdowns etc like Covid, not for another couple of generations anyway.

TheseWordsAreMine · 09/05/2026 01:07

I swear most of these threads are made up.

You're right, bat virus, rat virus.. What next.. cat virus? If it's not one it'll be t'other.. We're ALL DOOMED!

Your post just reminded me of the fear during Covid, that cats might spread coronavirus. It must have been quite a thing, because I vividly remember planning how we might save the cat, if the government decreed that they should all be destroyed!

peppermintfizz · 09/05/2026 01:41

Why are you wasting all this money repeatedly on a grand party?

Butterme · 07/05/2026 18:37

Get a grip OP.

The world doesn’t revolve around you.

People have died and you’re worried about a wedding.

This isn’t Covid, it’s highly unlikely to even transfer human to human.

Erm.... 😬

Ifallelsefails · 09/05/2026 02:42

It could be an omen - I wish I'd had a load of 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 to warn me off 😂😂

Fingers crossed & Good Luck 😘

BillyButlerTheRightTrackNsoul · 09/05/2026 04:12

Yes it will as its God's and the universes will that you never marry and are destined to be spinstered for the rest of your life ..
No wedding cake for you.😁🤣

Ponderingwindow · 09/05/2026 05:01

As long as it’s a local wedding, I wouldn’t worry.

If it’s a destination wedding, I would be more worried about global politics, economics, and shortages making travel difficult.

this is a person to person strain, but they are aware and tracking. Worrying about it at this point seems premature. Cruise ships just make for dramatic headlines.

Partickthistle · 09/05/2026 07:34

If you're giving up that easily perhaps you're not really too bothered about the wedding after all. Read a quality newspaper and you'll find this isn't going to be a repeat of Covid. Just avoid any rat-infested venues and you'll be fine.

Your derogatory use of the word 'spinster ' makes me think you want a wedding more than a marriage
You want to play princess for the day
You have had 6 years To get married
Could have had a small wedding

@EyUpNowThenLass

This.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 09/05/2026 08:41

A Nuclear attack maybe, but not rat virus

MellersSmellers · 09/05/2026 08:49

No.
If you're planning an overseas Do you are more likely to be impacted by a shortage of jet fuel though.
Just plan for a wedding in the UK and have a great day

Get over yourself ffs.
And who on earth even uses words like 'spinster' any more??

Yes...the fates are against you.
Far better to finish the whole thing and prepare for a life of spinsterhood and cats.😏

Beamur · 09/05/2026 11:37

More likely to be impacted by fuel costs if you're flying anywhere

Thechaseison71 · 09/05/2026 11:39

Why on earth would it be?

Really? People are dying and you are moaning about your wedding? If it's that important just go have a cheap wedding and a Macdonalds after.

Poppysocks13 · 09/05/2026 18:00

Oh, honestly!!! 🤦‍♀️
Nobody knows what tomorrow may bring - that’s part of the miracle of being on this strange spring orb that we call home!
If the marital status is the issue just do a registry office job - if not carry on planning for your wedding!

Rat disease on a V expensive cruise? Personally I’m more concerned by the number of twonks who have voted for Reform … that genuinely gives me zombie apocalypse/ end of the world vibes!!!!!

Blue44Lady · 09/05/2026 18:02

Are you intending to get married in some squalid rat-infested venue?

Charlotte2887 · 09/05/2026 18:14

I can’t believe you’ve taken the time to create this post. Look around you and realise you are being very dramatic.

My take on this aside Have a lovely wedding!

You can still get married,... just keep it simple and keep your money in savings for when things calm down. IF there is any type of pandemic in October, you can get married, but wait out all the potential hysteria, then go on a belated honeymoon later... and postpone wedding activities for after things calm down.

I personally would keep it extremely simple., with only immediate family on a beach, or woodland., and use all the money you would have saved for your home and a financial safety net for the both of you.

You know a wedding and a marriage are different? You can get married in a registry office, and no longer be a spinster.

Was about to say the same thing!
