Vaping while pushing pram?

Clover96 · 06/05/2026 16:38

My baby is 7 days old today, first baby so everything is still new and my emotions a bit up and down.

Am I being overly cautious / unreasonable about this though, because I really don't see how I am.

Would you find it acceptable to take baby out in the pram and have a vape at the same time? They have the opinion that it's fine because you wouldn't be directly blowing it in their face or in their direction, there's "things like car fumes too", and there's no way they'd want to go on hour walk with baby without the vape.

No they’re really not ‘equally bad’. One is much worse. But don’t let science get in the way of you feeling superior.

Yes of course smoking is worse but doing either whilst pushing a pram just looks low frequency. It suggests someone who has neither the common sense or pride in themselves to abstain from a bad habit around a small child. It’s not superiority it’s knowing what’s decent and not acceptable.

What does low frequency mean in this context?

HereIfYouNeedMe, and others thank you for sharing your posts of reason.

People hear the word vape and their braincell escapes through their arse.

Amazing 😂

I don’t think abstaining while you’re around children is a bad thing. I wouldn’t smoke or vape around mine, but all the talk of low frequency, uneducated, low class, chavvy blah blah blah just reeks of smug superiority. Congratulations for being so middle class and clever, is that what you need to hear?

FYI people can have vices and still be intelligent, decent people. The two are not mutually exclusive.

So different to the 2013 threads where vaping was actually saving people from smoking
people are so much less tolerant to it for some reason. I was vaping custard flavours even then

Selfish, toxic, zero accountability energy.

Do you know anything about nicotine addiction? Saying ‘so it’s an addiction’ isn’t imparting wisdom. Of course it is!! Nicotine is the fifth most addictive drug in the world. Why judge people for trying to escape the misery of this addiction?!
@SerenaCat93 thank you for calling out the judgmental, uneducated people on this thread! Agree with everything you’re saying.
nhs myth buster page if anyone wants to actually educate themselves https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking/ready-to-quit-smoking/vaping-to-quit-smoking/vaping-myths-and-the-facts/

perfectly well educated thanks.

vaping is addictive as evidenced in the OP. I’m not imparting wisdom - I’m sharing my views.

for those who like to vape. Go for it! If you want to breathe that on your babies - go for it.

I just wouldn’t do that.

I’d judge the successful yuppy wino or coke addict parents just as much as those vaping around children.

Just asked my teen what low frequency means and he asked why, whos wilding at you, then I asked what wilding means and he said low frequency people do it a lot when they're trying to look like they've got a vibe.

I need a lie down.

Love "wilding" too!!

whywonthelisten · 07/05/2026 09:20

This thread has been genuinely quite surprising. I don't smoke, or vape but I had no idea MN feels so strongly about vaping.

A bit like the day I realised how strongly MN feels about surrogacy (please don't take this to mean I want to hear about the immorality of surrogacy).

Monty36 · 07/05/2026 09:22

Not really no. Apart from looking really dreadful ( it does), the pong, it is as damaging as smoking. Passive smoking is a very real problem. Passive vaping I suspect is too.

blankcanvas3 · 07/05/2026 09:25

I personally vaped to give up smoking (I’ve quit vaping now too!), but I never smoked or vaped around my children, and never would. I would judge somebody for doing so.

Monty36 · 07/05/2026 09:25

Justifying it by saying there are things like car fumes too doesnt make it more attractive or virtuous.
Just try to not vape at all. Pack it in.
I used to smoke. I became ashamed of it. Once I was it was easy to stop. Saved a fortune too.

I am so not middle class, in fact i was brought up on one of the most deprived estates in Sw Scotland and even i think walking along pushing a pram whilst smoking/vaping is trashy just as trashy has some bloke pushing a pram and swigging out of a bottle of Bucky. Anyone that smokes/vapes or gets pissed in front of their children is as common as fuck.

It really really is not as damaging as smoking
its more damaging that people say this, smokers hear it and carry on smoking

Have you ever considered just…not judging?

I don’t really believe people who say they don’t judge. And I also don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with judging, in and of itself. Some people should be judged (drink drivers, for example, are widely judged and rightly so imo).

Obviously no one will agree on everything when it comes to who should be judged, but telling someone not to judge is silly - everyone judges others for something. You were a bit judgy when you said to that poster that her comment was smug and superior, and “congratulations for being so middle class and clever, is that what you need to hear”. You were judging her based on her comment. Maybe rightly, maybe not 🤷🏻‍♀️
