I’ll give her credit for working hard to improve her performance in Parliament. She deserves that.

Walkyrie · 05/05/2026 13:48

I think she’s fantastic, not only intelligent and astute as to the public’s wants but made of steel. She’s completely unflappable and I would love to see her as Prime Minister at the next GE. I’ll be voting for her anyway.

WaffleBomb · 05/05/2026 13:48

HobGobblynne · 05/05/2026 13:43

Completely agree - Badenoch was in the position to create change when she was in various ministerial positions in a serving government. Now she's in opposition and has no power, it's very easy to 'say the right thing' but surely you'd have to question why those 'right things' weren't actioned when she/her party had the ability to do so.

Edited

She wasn't party leader. Now she is.

Hallowedturf · 05/05/2026 13:48

Compare and contrast Kemi with Starmer & Polanski.

Kemi is head and shoulders above the two men of straw.

ProudAmberTurtle · 05/05/2026 13:48

Dweetfidilove · 05/05/2026 13:45

This is an interesting change.
I'm hoping the OP will share more on Kemi's fantastic achievements/performances, as I was of the belief she'd be gone before the next GE.

She's climbed up from least popular (of the five) party leader to most popular

Agree. A modern day Thatcher.

Keni Badenoch who said maternity leave had "gone too far"?!

Yep. She's going nowhere.

barkygoldie · 05/05/2026 13:51

I think she talks sense in some areas but I’d never vote Tory. Overall they still exist to serve the rich and shaft the poor so while I applaud her sometimes, the core values don’t align with my own.

WaffleBomb · 05/05/2026 13:48

No, that’s why I said in any of her various ministerial positions, rather than “when she was PM”.

Ministers aren’t powerless. They can influence policy, legislation and government direction within their departments. Obviously not to the same extent as a party leader, but she still had more ability to create change in government than she does now in opposition.

TheFatRat · 05/05/2026 13:53

She was very impressive in that x clip and stood her ground. Definitely head and shoulders above the other leaders and I think will go from strength to strength as we near another election. I will vote for her.

I think she's always been a good parliamentary speaker, it's just people have only recently started to notice.

She gave a brilliant speech about Black Lives Matter in about 2020 or 2021, and how they are the antithesis of MLK, when it was a risk to do this, that's when I first noticed her.

The poor weren’t shafted under the Tories last time. Furlough, the benefits spiralled. Our welfare state is far too big and we can’t afford or sustain it. I’m not worried about that kind of ‘poor’ I’m worried about people who earn just over the threshold to receive help and have to contend with sky high rents and cost of living.

I don't agree that she had more power then than she has now.
She can now set the agenda herself, rather than following the priorities of a different leader.
I don't blame Starmer for the actions of Corbyn's front bench either.

The Tories (of which KB was part of the cabinet) had many many years to put things right. They didn’t and instead stuck their noses in the trough and plundered the country with their rich buddies. Labour has inherited a broken country that is, sadly, past the point of no return. It’s all talk - really don’t believe the hype.

It doesn't matter what she says. She will not be allowed to implement anything her party doesn't agree with/see as unpopular decision. And her party was useless for 14 years, nothing has changed apart from the leader. And they go through them pretty quickly.
Look at Labour - Starmer had to U-turn on everything other than "more benefits".

childoftkty · 05/05/2026 13:55

Me too. I think she’s growing in confidence and really coming in to herself

Hallowedturf · 05/05/2026 13:55

WaffleBomb · 05/05/2026 13:51

Unlike Starmer - who will soon exit stage right.

I don’t think it’ll be a Tory govt, I think it’ll be Tory coalition with Reform like ferrets up their arse to force them to see their harder policies through.

She has literally no power now. She can set her agenda, yes. But it's meaningless at the moment. That's why she can say quite literally anything she likes at the moment (the same as any other party not in power). It doesn't translate into action.

Don’t forget Starmer, who said ‘we risk becoming an island of strangers’…

YANBU. The Conservatives are the only party to vote for at this point. I have never voted for them before, but I will vote for them at the next General Election.

This. Everytime I hear her speak about what they are going to do I wonder why they could not be arsed during almost 15 years in power.
