Leaving aside the class discussions, I'll merely comment that the AI decor is hilarious. Particularly pics 23 & 24.

CurlewKate · Yesterday 02:03

No.The TV’s too big.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · Yesterday 02:08

Good God. There’s a lot of twattish snobbery on this thread. No books, no evidence of travel, B&Q decor? Utterly pathetic.

I'll bite. It might be more expensive than an average house but at best it's upper working class / lower middle class. The decor is not nice, there's no sense of class, style or history. Quite a few tacky features (like the hot tub). And it's a new build.

Edited

I second this. House size? Middle class. Decor? Upper Working.

Nothing middle class about that house. No books, art, evidence of travels, musical instruments...just an awful lot of fake plants.

We've been lots of places, but my poor house has been standing in the same place since 1809. No evidence of travels whatsoever.

SzeliMac · Yesterday 02:16

If class is classed on wealth that's a very wealthy person's house to me, ergo upper middle class at the lowest

WildGarden · 30/04/2026 22:26

Apologies.

We have a three piece suite in our front room. With a dumpty obviously, we're not animals.

What's a dumpty?!

francy99 · Yesterday 03:35

I don’t think middle class is run of the mill and that house is certainly not run of the mill

Pineapplewhip · Yesterday 04:01

I dont see any hand-painted periwinkles, so def lower class.

WaryHiker · Yesterday 04:28

There are so many posts like this on Mumsnet at the moment. Is it just some sort of stealth marketing by posters who want more people to see their house and make an offer on it?

GottaBeStrong · Yesterday 04:45

No. It's Nouveau Riche. 🤣

Also, the plot is too small for the house.

Radarqueen · Yesterday 05:11

I'd call it a pushing upper-middle or has some money and no taste house.

SingedSoul · Yesterday 05:36

Are you suggesting a detached 4 bed with 3 bathrooms large garden and summer house is lower/working class. I hate the class system, but please do take a dose of reality with your granola. AAF.

I’m looking at a similar house (in a slightly different area) and I suppose wanted to know what people would think of me if I lived somewhere like that! I know it’s shallow!

I would think you overpaid substantially for that house if you pay asking price.

The house itself is fairly standard sized, IMO.

echt · Yesterday 05:42

The house attempts to mimic the style of a pre-2WW? house, one that would be in a decidedly affluent area where I used to live in the UK, and would cost a few million these days. It doesn't carry through with the aspirations implied by the front view e.g. the small garden, lack of corridors and doors to separate rooms (have they never heard of pocket doors?) a bizarre attempt at period panelling, no picture rails or moulding for the ceilings, and horrendous grey flooring. And the rest of the grey. The TV on the slant speaks of a lack of space - or a desire for a fuck-off screen at all costs. No boundary fence at the front.

It's trying to be something it's not, a mash-mash of styles, which is the architect's fault.

I’m always amazed, but probably shouldn’t be, that well -off people have the most appalling taste in wall art.
They’ll spend £100k on a kitchen then put something tasteless and cheap on the wall.

As several people have pointed out (and the linked site explains) much of the furniture and effects in these photos, included the wall art, is not real. It's generated by AI decorator software and the results are quite laughable in some instances.

The agents include this imaginary stuff to give an impression of what the place would look like if currently occupied.

circusrunaways · Yesterday 06:06

There is a big gulf between the UMC & the rest of the middle class but everyone seems to lump them together.

circusrunaways · Yesterday 06:08

lol, no it isn’t!

WhereHasMyPlanetGone · 30/04/2026 22:38

Then why the disparagement towards ‘new money’? Do you believe working for a living to be ‘dishonourable’?

People bitch about “new money” because it’s a way of retaining superiority amongst those who have less money now. They are poorer but still “better” than the flashy new neighbours because they go to museums.

Twooclockrock · Yesterday 06:24

That house would be double the price in my area. So it depends where you live.
For that money near me you would get a terrace three bed, a two bed flat, a small 2 bed semi.
So its not really the house itself, its the price.
Ehich, if you can affors 600k plus, then I would say it's middle class, but on the lower end .

MagneticSquirrel · Yesterday 06:32

It’s an expensive house that most people can’t afford unless they’ve had inheritance or help or been on the ladder a long time so I’d hardly say run on the mill! It’s not what I’d think of as “working class” too large and definitely not “upper class” … too small.

Yes.

dahliadream · Yesterday 06:42

In my opinion, this is a really lovely house, certainly larger than average. If I went to visit someone in a home like this I'd think they were doing very well for themselves!

TheChicDreamer · Yesterday 07:01

I really hope the owners of this house don’t find this thread 😕. It’s one of the most judgemental and snobbish things I’ve read. And that’s quite a feat on Mumsnet.

YourShyLion · Yesterday 07:05

It's very run of the mill and not one I'd touch with a barge pole. It's ugly but to each their own b
