SHE LEAVES GAS ON REPEATEDLY FOR YEARS

heygirlsitsme · 29/04/2026 19:29

Hey guys I am asking about a close relative

what the hell could this be??

they for decades have been leaving gas on like every month, every few months. Sometimes even few times a week.

their daughter has bad ocd because she remembers since age 13 having to check gas after her

and it’s not just gas. Hot tools, plugged in iron, fire on.

like person living with them comes home, no one is home, that woman left for work and gas is on.

30 years they nearly burned down staff kitchen room in old workplace

when you tell them off about it they go, oh yes, sorry. Sorry. I’ll be more careful. Or quietly nod. But they keep doing same thing.

I don’t understand why it’s so hard to double check and be more careful if you know this about yourself.

what the hell could this be. I am starting to wonder if this is done on purpose because it’s so ridiculous

I think their AI is having some sort of breakdown.

Eccythumpy · 29/04/2026 19:38

ADHD ?

PinkyFlamingo · 29/04/2026 19:39

Weird post! When you say leave gas on do you mean the heating? Because you don't just "switch the gas on"!

heygirlsitsme · 29/04/2026 19:39

Eccythumpy · 29/04/2026 19:38

ADHD ?

I was thinking this too, undiagnosed adhd

but I asked someone with adhd and on adhd forum they said it’s not this bad

also this person is a teacher

Or the menopause. Or perhaps food noise or teething.

The stove

If it's an elderly relative I would get her an airfryer and remove the plug from the stove . She could end up killing her daughter and herself .
My son does things like this b ut he's has some TIAs . Could this person have some cognitive disfunction?

They’ve been doing this for decades

i have no idea what this could be

they are also a teacher so idk how bad their cognitive disjunction can be

Yeah, but teething problems when they did it as an infant; then terrible twos, then tween issues, then teenage hormones, then pregnancy brain fog, then menopause, then dementia (with food noise adding to the problem throughout). It's not rocket science.

This is very disturbing serious situation I’m trying to figure out and kinda wanted serious replies

Why don't you switch the stove to an induction hob and it'll just switch itself off when the pan is removed? It's been 30 years so, whatever is causing it, it's not going to be stopped by nagging.

FormerCautiousLurker · 29/04/2026 19:48

My DD has AuDHD with comorbid issues and does this. She is on PIP and living in a family owned flat or the family owned home because she is unsafe. In the flat everything is on a sensor, so the hob etc switches itself off and at home, we have to come down during the night to check on the kitchen though we have fire sensors throughout the house (she is nocturnal and cooks in the small hours). We doubt she will ever live independently while we are alive and are planning for assisted living when we die.

I would contact social services and alert them to the fact that they are unsafe and need support. This may be simple things like an electric hob rather than a gas hob as it will switch off, safety plug devices that switch off if irons are left plugged in etc. They need support and monitoring. Ask for help to put this in place.

There are countdown plug devices apparently that switch devices off after a certain number of minutes, but unless she is completely unable to work/look after themselves, there is nothing you can do?

Guessing they mean a gas hob/cooker.

LuckyCharmz · 29/04/2026 20:06
