What place/city would you never visit that others love?

Paris and New York for me. They don't appeal at all. Not just the amount of tourists but when I've seen of them on tv and videos they don't look attractive. I'm open to being told I'm wrong. I don't like London but would visit if I had to. I've been a few times for shows and sport etc. I always feel grubby after a visit.
I do like some cities. Favourites are Edinburgh and Barcelona. Barcelona is rife with pickpockets though so you have to be on your guard.

My ideal holiday is walking in the lakes but I still enjoy the odd city break.

So is there anywhere that is popular that doesn't appeal to you?

I also feel this way about Australia. I’ve always said I’d go if someone offered me a free ticket but I wouldn’t pay. My best mate is travelling the world right now and when we met up, he said Australia is the one place he didn’t enjoy and wouldn’t return to. He just said it was overhyped, and I agree without even going…

I also have no desire to visit UAE.

Dubai is absolutely amazing though

I’m always absolutely baffled by this view. We used to live there, and it was unquestionably the most unpleasant place I’ve ever lived. Genuinely — what is it you find ‘amazing’?

Everything we just loved the city. It's so beautiful, clean and safe. So many fun things to do. The view from the Burj is fab, the Dubai marina looks amazing as well.

Loved the gold souk as well.

New York.

Don't bother. I went (and it didnt even cost me any £) and can tell you it's a load of shite. Biggest scam ever - they present this grand, glittering bustling exciting buzzy city to the world and it was anything but. Tiny, grotty, sad and disorganised. I will say The Met is a brilliant museum though.

A place I would never visit again is Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. I have heard people rave on about how 'beautiful' it is but it is a depressing shit hole. The 'front' is like some run-down English seaside resort stuck in the 1970s. Didn't go to the marina area, tbf, which I think is probably a bit nicer.

We lived in the marina. I mean, it’s just buildings, and some very polluted water, with the tides and currents disrupted by the Palm! Dubai isn’t clean at all, unless you just mean litter. It’s a total environmental disaster zone, with the huge energy burden of aircon, car use and water desalination, and the air quality is famously poor from heavy car use and construction. The ‘fun things to do’ bit may droned on how long you’re there, I suppose!

Had a holiday in New England, fabulous. Loved Boston. We decided to travel back via New York . I was really looking forward to it but didn't like the place at all. I couldn't even tell you why but I was on edge the whole time

Some cities make you feel that way and it can be inexplicable. I was worried I’d spend the entire holiday feeling this way about Naples but it grew on me and I absolutely loved it by the end. It gets a bad rap but it’s undeserved. Haven’t been to NYC yet but definitely want to. I imagine it definitely is a bit gritty but I don’t mind that.

Apart from the fact the hotels were very nice indeed, if you are ok with high rise, stuff to do , good day trips out and decent weather I genuinely much preferred Benidorm! Much Better beach, nicer sea, nicer old town , much cheaper and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg for modest meals and wasn’t full of the very rude bolshy Russianswe had in our Dubai hotel . ( and I’m an M&S/waitrose shopper) I really disliked Dubai - wandering round shopping malls and 48 degrees outside just wasn’t me - I get that some love it - but I wasn’t in that camp - the one day I enjoyed more was the dune buggy and desert picnic thing - we went out of curiosity I guess when everyone raved about it about 12 years ago

To me it felt like an even better canary wharf.

is home to two major religious cities and such wealth this could be a beautiful country to visit

but the culture of corruption and treatment of women are many foreign workers is utterly appalling

a country that is so corrupted by wealth has no appeal at all

Venice is actually lovely if you don't stay anywhere near the tourist hell that is St Marks square etc. I didn't like it at all on my first visit but was talked into going back and very glad I did.

Personally, absolutely no interest in Dubai/ any other middle eastern countries with no human rights, Australia, or America again. I also hated Paris when I went.

Yes.

I knew Paris would be the first place mentioned. I walked along the Rive Gauche one day last October at 10am and it was virtually empty. The Metro can be horrendously busy though.

For me it’s The Maldives and Venice - too much water.
