AIBU for leaving a cafe after my baby was sick?

Angrycafe · Yesterday 19:50

I was out with DD (2m) and DH earlier at a cafe. DH had to leave 5 minutes before I did with DD because he was running late to meet his friend to watch football.

As I was getting my belongings together, DD was sick everywhere, including on the floor. I was really flustered and quickly left, making sure the immediate area (the table) was clear but admittedly didn’t clean the floor.

A woman (staff) hurried out of the cafe after me and started ranting about a lack of respect and that I wouldn’t be welcome back. I just burst out into tears.

I wish in hindsight I had cleaned it, by I was flustered and in a mess. Am I terrible for doing this?

Thank you.

I told DH and said that I don’t think the staff member has been in that position before. He said that judging by the size of her he’s surprised she managed to catch up with me! That gave me some much needed light relief amongst the tears.

Wtf, what a disgusting comment! And you thought it was funny?

TheCheekyCyanHelper · Yesterday 21:51

Angrycafe · Yesterday 20:08

It was a joke.

Its not funny. Its toxic and mean. Says a lot about you and your husband if that's funny to you.

TheArtfulNavyDreamer · Yesterday 21:56

That’s pretty gross to leave someone else to clean up sick.

ProbablyNotHere · Yesterday 22:04

What were you flustered about? Surely if you have a 2 month old they puke milk back a lot, why didn't you clean up? Pretty rotten to just take off and leave some sick for someone else to deal with. Not everyone has a baby and realises it is just milk that has bounced back up, still grotty mind.

Flamingofeathers · Yesterday 22:05

You both sound vile tbh

Sj07 · Yesterday 22:06

You leave your kids vomit for someone else to clean up, you don't even mention it. And your husband makes "jokes" like that... Let's hope the kid learns basic manners and decency at school then.

Yeah, she probably hasn’t been in that position before as working in a cafe you don’t expect to have to clear sick from the floor. You need to find some resilience to deal with these things. What made you in a fluster?

You have lost my sympathy with that. What was so urgent that you couldn’t have told a member of staff?
Your DH is rude about a member of staff not wanting to clean up your babies sick? But she was a larger lady so okay to laugh about her size.

Why’s everyone laying into a new mum with a 2 month old baby? Yes she should have handled it better, but some new mums are just trying not to be overwhelmed by it all at that stage.

Wow, he sounds lovely and that made you feel better about not cleaning up the sick you left... right.

Overwhelmed 🙄

Because she and her DH thought it hilarious to bitch about the cafe worker being ‘rotund’

Obvs from someone other than their parents.

GreenAcre100 · Yesterday 22:14

OP, my DC hasn’t done that out in public thankfully but we were eating a messy lunch in a food court and she suddenly needed the loo. She’s 3 now and can’t wait too long. I had to gather our packaging with her yelling about the loo. I even gave the table a little wipe (always carry wet wipes!). In the bin and then off to the bathroom.

You just have to block the panic and noise from the kid and it’ll be fine going forward.

Summerbay23 · Yesterday 22:14

I was going to cut you some slack (even though you should have cleaned up your babies sick) but your husband’s subsequent comments and you finding them funny really don’t sit well with me. If you expect others to respond to you with respect and empathy, maybe do the same to them.

Have you read what her husband said that she found funny?

Mrsblobby88 · Yesterday 22:20

I highly doubt that leaving the baby's sick was the only rude thing that happened here. You are your husband sound like really ill mannered and unpleasant people.

Northermcharn · Yesterday 22:27

The waitress is probably utterly fed up with cleaning up other people's mess. The state some customers leave cafe tables in, is shocking. You were just yet another inconsiderate customer - she now had to clean up your child's vomit.. that you just left for her.

Sunbeam18 · Yesterday 22:28

You sound very unpleasant

DownyBirch · Yesterday 22:30

Angrycafe · Yesterday 20:09

I wouldn’t want to have bothered him, he deserved a break and a couple of drinks.

But you didn't mind bothering the cafe staff? Why?

So you're living with a nasty little shit?

No wonder you're stressed.

Oh don't be so pompous, it was a much needed bit of light relief.

@Angrycafe , you shouldn't have just left. Simply tell the staff that your baby has been sick and they will clean it up - you can't do it yourself without a mop. The lady running after you to tell you off was out of line. And unkind.

Yes leaving it for another women to clear up so hubby could have his me time 💆

lizzyBennet08 · Yesterday 22:35

Honestly total unfair to leave someone else to deal with that..

IntelCoreStrength · Yesterday 22:37

OP, I was with you until you laughed at your DH’s comment.

Anyway, when my twins made a mess in cafes that was beyond a wet-wipe cleanup, I used to go and ask for a dustpan and brush (or in your case, a mop) to clean it up. The staff were always lovely and would say not to worry about it, but I think it means something that you are at least trying.

You might think mocking the woman's appearance is light relief. Thankfully most posters disagree with you.
