It’s me by the way and that’s the case for my clothes

Nobody can tell, wouldn’t care less.

hollygoolightly · 26/04/2026 19:26

A £200 top can look 'cheap' on someone just as easily as a £2 top from the charity shop. I think it's more about how someone dresses and presents themselves. The material/fabric/fit/longevity of more expensive items are usually better obviously, but without someone getting up close and inspecting the fabric no one is going to notice, or care.

I've got a heavyweight plain white tshirt from Primark last year that is actually much nicer and fit me better than a cos one I tried on.

Mummadeze · 26/04/2026 19:40

I get loads of compliments on my style and wear Primark, H&M, supermarket clothes, TK Max and Cider online which I really recommend. I also find things second hand sometimes. You can totally be stylish and not spend a lot. No one at work who are the types of people who spend a lot of money on clothes could believe a jumper I wore was from Tesco in the Winter. They were shocked! But I actually feel proud that I can dress so well using budget brands, it is a skill!

Depends. If you were on a high wage and couldn’t be bothered to spend more, yes. If you couldn’t afford to buy more expensive clothes, no.

No way! Just shows they either save or spend their money on other things 😂

tommyhoundmum · 26/04/2026 19:44

The last time I saw Vivienne Westwood, years ago, of course, she was wearing old sandals and thick woolly socks.

sayitisntsoo · 26/04/2026 19:48

Snap OP, you sound like my clothes twin.

Swissrailways · 26/04/2026 19:55

Today, I am mostly wearing Primark, or at least my jeans, socks (mens, better quality) and knickers. Bra is Asda, which is the best fit for me, hoodie is some ski brand but prob from TKMaxx, can't remember it's so old and I've never skiied.
I spend on shoes so if anyone judged me, I'd show them my feet.

Just why? I wouldnt even be able to tell.

I can afford to buy designer clothes, but… i,d rather spend my cash on coffess, treats, days out.. and i,m big enough and proud enough to tell folk most of my clothes are cheap charity shop finds, and dont give a toss what anyone thinks, hold your head up high, any remarks is THEIR problem not yours 💋

Consumer choice in every way 🌞

TON618 · 26/04/2026 20:14

There's about a 1% chance I'd notice and a zero percent chance I'd care. Nothing wrong with Primark.

Wingingit247 · 26/04/2026 20:29

Nope. In fact the only people I DO judge are those who wear nothing but expensive labels and say they wouldn’t be seen dead in Primani and supermarket stuff. For me those are the ones with their priorities all out of whack.

Ladygardenerinderby · 26/04/2026 20:59

Absolutely not , folk that drip in designer stuff on a daily basis have more money than sense , very nice for an occasion to push the boat out but don’t see the point day to day . Most people I know wear supermarket brands and I’ve got friends In the very high income bracket . Only thing I don’t like about primark clothing is the sizes are not always true and I cba trying stuff on . Love George Sainsburys Tesco and Next stuff

Ladygardenerinderby · 26/04/2026 21:00

Shopping7777 · 25/04/2026 19:44

I guess you can tell they are cheap

No I disagree bet you look fab

ImogenBrocklehurst · 26/04/2026 21:06

I wouldn’t care one way or another.

Petrolitis · 26/04/2026 21:19

I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

If I knew you were regularly buying from places like Shein with morally dubious practises I would judge or buying lots of fast disposable fashion i would also judge. Not because of price but because of environmental impact.

I try to buy my clothes to last ages and I do find sainsbury's stuff seems to do that, am not remotely bothered that its not Prada

CeriseFlingo · 26/04/2026 21:39

Nope.

I am one of them. Today I wore my 11 year old son’s jeans from Next with a £125 Gant top with my Primark flipflops.

Tomorrow could be my Birkenstocks with a £10 TikTok dress.

biggestcatmom · 26/04/2026 22:00

Absolutely not, wouldn’t even cross my mind

Purpl · 26/04/2026 22:07

Depends how it looks on you is it a good fit thats everything. Some materials look cheaper than others. Primark amd supermarkets do some good bits snd some nadty bits. Some designer clothes wash badly and can look awful or again dont suit you. Generally higher end clothes are lined and hang better. You can be styish and put together on budget clothes., vinted for higher end clothes as low prices is defo worth a look. I love clothes i wouldn’t judge you but i do admire stylish people and nice clothes. If you dont have the money fair enough but a good eye will make a massive difference

riceuten · 26/04/2026 22:18

No - why would I ? Am I 12 ?

Wear what you want

Mumto2at · 26/04/2026 22:52

I love supermarket clothes!!

NattyKnitter116 · 26/04/2026 23:13

Namechangedforthis25 · 25/04/2026 19:45

I don’t think you can

I agree. Frankly confidence comes from wearing what feels right for you regardless of where you got it from. In my experience very wealthy people often just wear the same old things that they are comfortable in and only wear dressy stuff if they absolutely have to. My mum always remarks on how scruffy and “unironed” everyone is around here and many of them are at least multi millionaires. Frankly anyone that judges you and treats you differently based on your clothing isn’t worth your attention anyway. Having said all that, you and your clothes being clean is a minimal level of decency if you are going to be in proximity to others. Personally I find people drenched in chemical scents more off putting.

No and actually I think its about how you wear them, which pieces you choose, and how you carry yourself. I used to wear primark suits and shoes in a professional job and used to be complimented a lot. But I only bought the clothing that looked and felt more expensive - yes, that meant a lot of searching and trying. I also think the context I was in meant people didnt even consider I could be in primark

Chickadee001 · 27/04/2026 06:03

How would I know and why would I care? Only shallow airheads judge people by that criteria! I LOVE supermarket fashions etc etc, they're usually good value and well made!

Rottweilermummy · 27/04/2026 06:27

Why are you worried? has someone said something to you? Most people wear those types and to be fair absolutely nothing wrong with either supermarkets have some lovely clothes these days ( in the 80s was different lol. and where i live Tesco or charity shop is basically only 2 choices except for a pricey designer shop. I buy quite a lot of my stuff in charity shops these days

Thedarkside1985 · 27/04/2026 07:21

Not quite answering your question but as an ex shein and supermarket clothing buyer who lived in those clothes, i have moved onto vinted. Vinted has helped me buy a wardrobe of very expensive/heritage (not designer) brands primarily made in Britain/Europe. The difference has been how I feel in them. The cuts, the material and sustainability element has made me fall in love with clothes more and given me a huge boost in confidence. I do look back at photos from my shein days and see an obvious difference.
