What does either a specific person in your life, or just the general public do, you just don't understand why they do it, and you either can't ask them or you've tried to ask them and they can't tell you?

Write it here and maybe someone else that also does it can tell you why, or has an idea as to why.

Here are mine:

Why do my neighbours across the street bring their bins outside a full 24hrs early? They are retired, home most of the day, go in and out of their house five or six times during that 24hr period, but bring their bins out early Monday morning when they don't get picked up until Tuesday morning?

Why do people talk on their phones on speakerphone in public, what is the purpose?

Where I live you get a fine if you put the bin out on the wrong day.
I was laughing when on another thread someone was shocked a person living in a flat may have left a bin in there during their holidays. She didn't seem to understand that some people just aren't allowed to put their bins out on the wrong day.

Yep. I would've got a fine too had I done it again.
It's actually made me a bit paranoid about the bins now.
Not before 6pm anymore!! Dh will say, 'can I take the rubbish out?' at 5.59 pm and I'll be like, 'No!!!'
They used to go through black sacks at the tip, too.
I think they have stopped this now, though.

My husband gets up when there's about 2 minutes minimum until the train stops ..it annoys me but once it backfired ... We were on the tube and he decided to go stand by the door way before the train stopped. It juddered a bit while moving and he fell really dramatically across the aisle, with everyone cracking up. Unfortunately I had stood up with him against my better judgement and during his dramatic comical fall he dragged me down with him and landed on me. It gave everyone in the carriage a good laugh though

I panic I won’t be able to get out the door so I do this too

What gets me is when straight people dont get with the times and celebrate pride at home, school and work like they should do.

Oh give over! I have gay friends that cringe at 'Pride'. They just want to get on with their lives like any other heterosexual couple and don't think they need a celebration to validate themselves.

People who have their speaker on their phone whilst making a phone call in public. I can’t stand it. I was recently in hospital trying to recover from quite major surgery and the other women in my bay were on loud speaker whilst on the phone. It drove me insane. I don’t want to hear other people’s phone conversations.

When people wish their dead relatives happy birthday on social media! (They have been dead for 20 years!) I mean….. they’re dead so what’s it gunna do?? 🤷‍♀️

I imagine it's a way of remembering them like visiting the grave.

I’m usually scrolling. If it is a single cubicle at work and someone comes in and waits I usually stay there til they go

Omg it's you! You're the reason I wait and end up abandoning the wait at the loos at work and end up going to find them on a different floor! Well that explains why I can't hear you peeing.

I now live in a civilised place where general waste is collected twice a week, but when I lived in a flat with no balcony and general waste was once a FORTNIGHT, the thought of missing the collection was a huge stress.

What baffles me is - when I'm out walking my dog on a nice day I will met half a dozen dog walkers out at the same sort of time. When it's raining I don't see a soul! Are their dogs all waiting in with their legs crossed, hoping it stops raining? My dog doesn't much like the rain, but she going out!

Yes, it's the same around here. Bit of sun everyone's got a dog and nowhere to be seen on rainy days. It makes for a better walk when it's raining, no distractions for puppy training 😂.

I don't understand why so many women make their lives difficult by having ridiculously long false nails...

  • can't type on a keyboard or phone properly
  • seems to make them avoid holding or doing anything remotely difficult or dirty

Why? Just why?

Surely it's just like any vanity thing that's not practical e.g. high heels. Your second point seems like a plus though and I suppose impractical clothing was a sign of status in the old days.

People that comment on pregnant woman’s bodies and tell you that you’re looking really big or really small. “Wow, you’re getting so big!” “3 months left - more like 3 weeks!” “Twins, surely!” I don’t know how people have the nerve to say these things.

It’s a bit like walking into a room and saying wow Dave you’re looking massive today

No its not the same ?
dave is fat and doesn't like it

she is pregnant and hopefully happy , getting bigger is a good healthy thing , still need to be careful how you phrase i usually say. “ babys growing! “

cathome64 · 24/04/2026 20:16

Why do people not reverse park in supermarket carparks and on driveways ? So much safer for children walking past driveways if cars are not reversing out.

That seems rather thoughtless - some poor person is going to have to go and find another loo!

CuteOrangeElephant · 24/04/2026 20:19

I live on a road just around the corner from a shopping centre. My neighbour and I live in semi-detached houses. In front of our houses is enough space for both of us to park our cars (both decent sized cars).

Quite often there will be visitors to the shopping centre parked in front of our houses. No problem, it's a public road, we don't own the spaces.

Occasionally though you get the special ones who somehow have not noticed that you can park two cars there so they will park across both spaces. When I get to be in charge those people will lose their licence 😡

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 24/04/2026 20:20

I keep seeing women with heavily tattooed faces and throats. They aren't even attractive tattoos. One woman I saw the other day (a white woman) had her entire neck and throat tattooed in solid black, right up under her chin, and one of her arms also in solid black, from elbow to wrist. No pattern, no colour, no artistic element to it at all. She just looked like she'd been sharpied in her sleep. Asbolutely minging.

Horrible cashier. How sad is she calling people names because they think it's ok to expect her to do what she's paid for.

I didn't say the cashier was a woman.....

But if you're carrying one and people are always saying how huge you are, oh there must be twins in etc that ISN'T positive, it's rude and it can be worrying. One reason for being so large can be extra fluid which can be caused by quite a few bad things. Similarly telling someone how small their bump is can worry them about of baby is big enough.

Having twins is extra work, but it's not a negative for everyone.

Why do people talk on their phones on speakerphone in public, what is the purpose?

I put my bins out Monday morning for Tuesday 🫣 I used to leave them for the other adults in the house to do, I’m in poor health, but then they’d forget. So my Monday morning routine is sort kitchen out , washing on, meal prep, bins out, milk bottles out. Also the week it’s garden waste I get some of the garden sorted out as well.

After all of that each Monday I’m in a lot of pain so sometimes can’t physically stand or walk later in the day, struggle to even get my milk in. So it’s possible they have a similar health issue? …..I hope I’m not your annoying neighbour!

Namechangerage · 24/04/2026 20:25

Saying they hardly have an appetite and rarely eat - even sharing meals in pubs for example… but then are always tucking into seconds at people’s houses. Love cakes and puddings. Doesn’t add up - it’s like competitive frugality?! The people I know doing this are well off financially too.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/04/2026 20:25

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 24/04/2026 18:58

Because it looks dirty, like you have just got out of bed and gone out within a shower. If you are happy for people to think that then crack on.

If I'm out for milk for my morning tea in the weekend, then yes it's because I've just got up. If I'd dragged some jeans on, it would be the same.

Because they spend the weekdays looking after the grandchildren 🥳

People who can’t wait for their periods to stop … don’t they realise that once they do they will age at t speed of light and their bodies will start playing all those nasty tricks like osteoporosis and all the not so nice symptoms of getting into menopause when they do?

Yes, I also wonder at this. I can't imagine looking forward to becoming fat and apple shaped and having a higher risk for heart disease, osteoporosis and so many other things. I'm dreading it.

Discodance1988 · 24/04/2026 20:31

In regards to bin cleaning, I pay a company to clean my bin once a month, I have contamination OCD and it helps me have a sense of control if I know it's getting cleaned even if that's once a month.. I also have a toddler who is still in nappies and black bin bags and nappy sacks do very little to contain the smell of rotting food/feaces etc plus most of my neighbours bins get infested with maggots when summer comes and then everyone else is stuck dealing with them as theres so many flies. In fact majority of my street have now taken on the services of the bin cleaning company to try to stop it.

TedDog · 24/04/2026 20:34

@ThatLilacTiger Recycling is meant to be fully washed before it goes into the wheelie bin so the recycling bin at least, should always be clean

Shinyhappyapple · 24/04/2026 20:36

Starlightexpresss · 24/04/2026 18:40

right, so why would the outside bin be stinky and manky then?

Prior to getting a food caddy was your bin revolting and smelly all the time?

I mean, I wouldnt want to get inside my large outside bin but its not manky and stinky

If my inside bin has stinky food in it like fish remnants I immediately bag it up and put it outside so you dont need a food caddy to do that!!

Edited

So I’m just saying I don’t see your logic,
as there is no difference with regard to ease of putting in the food caddy or the bin, so why not use the food caddy. Previously our main bin was collected weekly but now we have food caddy it’s fortnightly for bin and weekly for food caddy, so the main bin is more likely to be manky now as it’s not collected so often.

Rating a recipe without making it. I've seen 5 star rating for a recipe where someone's comment has been 'can't wait to try making this, it looks great!' OK, but why rate it? It happens surprisingly frequently.

Or when someone writes a comment that they made the recipe for cheese scones, it was good but they substituted the cheese for blueberries, added sugar, used gluten free flour, and actually it was a muffin. It's not the same recipe!

Edited

I’ve seen this where people leave a 1 star review of a recipe - but then add that they substituted mud for flour, salt for sugar yet can’t understand why it tasted rubbish 🤣🤣
