What does either a specific person in your life, or just the general public do, you just don't understand why they do it, and you either can't ask them or you've tried to ask them and they can't tell you?

Write it here and maybe someone else that also does it can tell you why, or has an idea as to why.

Here are mine:

Why do my neighbours across the street bring their bins outside a full 24hrs early? They are retired, home most of the day, go in and out of their house five or six times during that 24hr period, but bring their bins out early Monday morning when they don't get picked up until Tuesday morning?

Why do people talk on their phones on speakerphone in public, what is the purpose?

And don't get me started on folk who have a drive yet park multiple vehicles on the road/ pavement clogging up a street. Why? Is it because they lack the skills to get the car on and off the drive or what 🤔

Mannersareeverything · Today 16:46

Drink alcohol
I don't get it.
Mostly tastes nasty, gives you a headache, you can't drive which is inconvenient & expensive.

Myskyscolour · Today 16:47

Push the button to cross the street several times

When people are sat waiting at red traffic lights, why does it take them about 5 business days to actually move when it goes green, causing longer queues behind. I’m at the biting point with the hand brake on ready to go go go!!

Why do people have loud long conversations right in the middle of a crowd at a concert/gig?

Spend all that money for tickets, time getting ready, time/effort getting to venue, effort to sort out things like childcare (if applicable), just to stand their for majority of the gig, talking inane rubbish to the person you probably spent all day/week texting that same inane rubbish to; all within earshot of everyone else trying to actually listen to the music, genuinely baffles me, I'd say talk during the intervals, but they do that anyways and just continue through the gig.

Why does the man who lives on the other side of our road park outside our house so often? It's unrestricted on road parking so he can park there if he likes...I just wonder why he does. It means dh or I have to park outside his house on the other side of the road. So he hauls all his crap out of his car and trails it across the road and we have to do the same. WHY?

I've only read the first 4 pages so this may have been mentioned already but what baffles me is the number of drivers who are seemingly oblivious to other road users.

It seems to be a daily occurrence in our village for someone to pull out of a junction without looking. A couple of weeks ago a woman pulled out in front of me without even glancing in my direction!

There are always cars parked along our high street but still enough room for two cars travelling in opposite directions to drive through without having to give way. I often have to almost drive up the kerb because an oncoming car is taking up half of "my" side. They don't even seem aware that there's a car approaching them!

I'm amazed at the lack of accidents in our village to be honest.

I really don't understand why on an empty train carriage/platform people come and sit next to you. This happened to me the other afternoon when I got the train into the city: I walked to the other end of the train platform so I could get some peace and quiet on an empty carriage so I could read my book, only to have another woman follow me and come and sit opposite me and then whip out her phone, hold it in front of her and then start shouting into it. On an empty train!

Couldn't she see I was reading a book? Did she think I wanted to hear her mundane phone conversation or watch her shouting? FFS!

Do someone know where one can buy a signal blocker? So sick of hearing people shouting into their phones in public spaces.

Why do people stand on escalators when they are perfectly capable of walking up steps? Baffles me (I understand disabilities, before anyone comes at me!)

My area has just gone over to food caddies. One week garden waste, recycling and food caddies are collected. Next week, general waste and food caddies. Several neighbours refuse to use the food caddy, which means their general waste bin will be minging by the time it’s collected.

Makes no sense.

Our council is crap and on the list is due to have food caddies/recycling by 2043!!! I hope that's a typo, but it also said the same year for York, which is nearby.

I am someone like this 🤣 my dh has a bladder the size of a pea and is constantly going to the toilet. I usually don't go until I'm bursting especially on public transport etc
Could easily hold it for a few hours

I'm every half hour without falling. Aisle seat on planes for this reason! And I have to go to every loo I walk past. So... I don't understand people who don't constantly need to pee! 🤣

How do you know they are?

Law of averages. If you look at any escalator/ stairs combo, anywhere, 99% of the people are on the escalator.... Crowds of them. Now I'm no statistician but I doubt all those escalator people are unable to physically walk up a few steps. Some, granted. But not all. And I'd be annoyed if I genuinely needed to use an escalator and it was rammed full of people who didn't actually need to use it. Same as I would with disabled parking spaces.

I realise that. It just stuns me that people reach adulthood being so interested in other people’s lives yet unable to fathom why they might do things differently.

I was always told not to walk up an escalator and I know a lot of people who were.

So if I have the audacity to get in your way then walk round me

I think we all understand people do things differently, the OP here seems genuinely interested about learning the “why” behind things that don’t make sense to them. As are other people. If you read the first few pages, people are putting in their suggestions as to the whys. I don’t understand why you’re misinterpreting this and making it all about judgement.

Most people can stretch their imagination to work out the why, and if they can’t, does it really matter? This is a ‘aren’t people weird’ vibe

I’d be mystified by this. I’d be on high alert for their next baffling move

I am ashamed by how easily they have managed to take up residence, rent-free in my brain and how much of the conversations between DH and I revolve around their batshittery...

I understand why people make 4 minute YouTube videos on how to find the filter on your washing machine, but I have no idea who the fuck watches them when diagrams exist.

The University of YouTube is a lifesaver!

I watched a video on how to unblock my washing machine which was an absolute lifesaver and saved me a lot of money as I was at the point of getting ready to throw it out and buy another (It was 15 years old). It works perfectly now after unblocking it.

I also changed a faulty flush on a toilet (very simple unscrew / screw in geberet replacement flush) by watching a YouTube video - flush was £43 from Selco instead of £90 plumber call out fee + ££££ for the part.

So it's me who watches those videos.

Why do so many of my neighbours drive to our local corner shop which is approximately a 3 - 4 minute walk?

Er, they may be doing a large shop which they don’t want to lug back home. They are planning a boozy evening or a party and buying shed loads of wine.
They’ve got a bad back. Of fallen arches.
They hate walking.
Any of those things.

I love a YouTube video. I watch them to learn knitting stitches and specific exercises and stretches.
