Animal cruelty - lack of support on threads

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 00:31

so am posting here because I’ve tried on other threads ( keep getting moved). In light of the last few days and what we’re learning. Testing on animals/ Beagles in the UK. I’m feeling heartbroken and have been so unaware. Anyone else?

I’m actually going to go and visit that camp and see for myself. There’s a trial end of this month

I just can’t bear to read anything about animal cruelty and I admit I hide threads and and turn the tv over when those awful RSPCA adverts appear, I know it’s cowardly but the images haunt me and I find it really distressing, I try to help animals as much as I can in real life and volunteer for an animal charity, others may feel similar and maybe that’s why they don’t get traction because it’s just so awful?

The last round of adverts for the RSPCA had kittens and snails singing 'Respect'. They were kinda funny rather than depressing or disturbing.

Thank you. This is exactly it. Outdated knowledge/ understanding. I’m trying to educate myself in what actually is going on and for what purposes.

if you look at all your products in the home it will make you reassess. It’s not just about medication.

I do only use cruelty free in all other areas.

I just didn't realise that with medication there are alternatives being created but at a snails pace.

AI could help with this, I am sure.

Dinosnorous · 23/04/2026 10:42

I think it’s a personal thing as to what you think is acceptable. But I can’t see how you can come to an informed decision by refusing to look at the cost of your choice.

personally I’ll accept it for cancer medication, for weight loss I find it abhorrent

Cheeks4970 · 23/04/2026 10:42

And you may wonder why they chose beagles for this? It's because they are docile and easy to torture.

In early 2026, the government changed the law so that there are stricter restrictions on protesting outside of animal torture facilities to try to squash the likes of Camp Beagle.

Yes test on people. Imagine being fine for unwilling monkeys to be used but willing human subjects who are paid is just a step too far. Fgs

you'll be volunteering then? There is a reason that there isn't human testing in this way - much as we find it distressing and distasteful - how are you going to find healthy humans who will volunteer to be tested on, killed and then a post mortem so we can see if there was damage or not?

You'll be first in line for that? or will it be prisoners? or the poor and destitute who see no other way of making a bit of cash?

AngryHerring · 23/04/2026 10:45

Beagles are bred and kept in dire situations - no heating on during winter, no cooling during scorching summers, no way to ever get outside and staff that leave them over the weekend with no-one looking after them other than security guards at the front gate.

no, i am not ok with that. Where is the campaign to stop it?

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 10:45

Yes they did this really quietly- no more protests outside Astra Zeneca etc. I read this.
Theres a lot to read on this subject tbf

This is the issue - putting up a link will get the post moved

but the weight loss is a side effect, and producing and refining the weight loss is also a side effect of what the actual drug was developed for.

well you could point indicators about what to google for eg.

In the FWS boards when we talk about gardening we have ways of conveying where the links are.

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 10:52

I’ve never posted on mums net before all this so am trying to figure it all out. I usually come on for light hearted reading! The irony

There’s a camp to google at the end of MBR acres

I started other threads too under this username with more info

In my post I said to look up Camp Beagle on any social media platform and you will find out about it or even just google Camp Beagle.

yeah - i am not looking up your other threads.

But i will look up Camp Beagle.

If this is your first time posting, i hope you have learned what makes a good and useful OP?

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/04/2026 11:01

I hate it, its awful... but..

Without animal testing I would be dead. I take multiple medications daily, all of which have been through animal testing trials.

The UK has some of the strictest legislation on what you can and can't do in animal testing, and all that surrounds it.

Campaigning to ban it here does not mean it will be banned globally, it means it won't happen here. Which means it will happen somewhere else, somewhere with much lower standards across the board.

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 11:05

After seeing that footage and learning how the animals are slaughtered afterwards, I’m not sure the standards could be any lower

So it was originally a side effect. But it is now an incredibly lucrative market in its own right which is being researched and tested further. Like I said, it’s a personal line, I don’t think weight loss is an appropriate use of animal testing.

theyhavenovoice · 23/04/2026 10:33

Grew up in a different to location to you. Yes I knew about animal testing / body shop campaigns. I thought they’d phased out testing for cosmetics. Good for you knowing it all! I wonder knowing that for all these years, you must make excellent choices! You tell us all what we can do then?

Edited

Pretty sure you’re replying to me. I definitely don’t “know it all” !!

Huntingdon Life Sciences is very close to where I grew up, but even when we moved up to Yorkshire there were the same anti-vivisection organisations with stalls, campaigns and petitions in the town and city centres every weekend.

However, reflecting on my choices means I accept animal testing for medical research. As a PP said if someone I love is having life saving treatment I’m not stressing about how it was tested.

You mean these images from this frothing article.

Oh god, he looks terrified

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 23/04/2026 11:39

People donate to charities that have no issues abusing animals such as overbreeding dogs (to levels where even the KC think it’s unacceptable), breeding them far too young which damages their joints etc. (and in fact many are proud of the fact they support these charities), so why would they care if it’s for their own benefit if animals are abused in situations such as testing drugs?

I agree it’s awful. But people don’t care. You’re yelling into a void, OP

No many people don’t seem to care. And just turn a blind eye
