To not believe Keir Starmer

I'm sick of Keir Starmer's dodging over Peter Mandelson. He said he wasn't aware PM hadn't passed security vetting. He's been asked again and again about this. The knives are definitely out for him and I would be glad to see the back of him.

But…but…Boris! 🙄

caringcarer · 18/04/2026 00:59

If his lips are moving he's probably lying.

How can the Prime Minister use "I didn't know" as an excuse. It's his JOB to know.

I think it's plausible that he didn't know, and would have assumed that he'd be briefed about something like this.

But that's almost as bad as if he knew and lied about it. He's a leader whose team feel like they can keep critical information from him.

Boris Johnson denied having all those parties in lockdown ......and I was glad to see the back of that lying arsehole! Were you?

Ciaran Martin’s interview (former security chief) on the world at one on radio 4 yesterday made a convincing case as to why sacking Olly Robbins didn’t make sense, because there is a duty not to share the details of the vetting process with ministers. Here’s a write up of some of what he said:

Former security chief ‘cannot comprehend’ basis for sacking Robbins

Ciaran Martin says firing FCDO perm sec does not square with how the vetting process works, and will have chilling effect on civil servants

Starmer panicked and did his usual and sacked whoever he could find. He’s messed up on this. OR will rightly say he didn’t nothing wrong.

No. Because Boris was what he was. A Grade1 Chancer. Keir Starmer trades on his integrity though he doesn't seem to have much if any.

He either was told or he wasn’t. My issue with him and his style of leadership is that he is not very curious and instead of asking questions, he’d rather rely on the judgement of others. Even without the vetting, there was enough in the dark lords past to have excluded him from nomination, let alone being offered the post. Our Prime Minister appeared to be blinded by supposedly having an inside man on the workings of the orange narcissist.

Being a leader to a modern major political party is a thankless task, it either attracts narcissists like Johnston and Truss or people not built for the constant battle like Sunak and Starmer. I’d rather have Starmer over Johnston or Truss every day of the week.

He should have been told and he should have wanted to know. If he wasn’t told because he didn’t want to know, then that is a problem.

You don’t think Starmer’s a narcissist? That seems a very obliging view of a petulant man who denigrates and blocks any rivals and who throws people under the bus at the drop of a hat.

You’d have to look very hard to find any PM, or any senior minister come to that, who isn’t a narcissist.

Ultimately the question is whether a PM or minister is any good. Starmer is patently useless.

Viviennemary · 17/04/2026 23:15

Rayner should never ever be allowed to be PM. She shouldn't even be an MP imho.⁵

Why shouldn’t Angela be PM or MP?

Yep he sacks anyone to save his skin. It looks like Olly Robbins is going to defend himself, as he didn’t do anything wrong. Good on him.

Tax evasion.

OonaStubbs · 18/04/2026 13:28

Starmer needs to resign. If he had any decency, any honour, he would have already done so.

He's a lawyer. Lawyers never ask a question if there is a chance they might not like the answer.

Depending on what he did not ask, he can technically be telling the truth.

Q: Did you eat the bar of chocolate that was on the top shelf of the fridge?
A: No
(technically the truth because it was on the middle shelf)

JohnTheRevelator · 18/04/2026 17:10

I don't believe a word he says any more. And to think I voted labour in the last general election.

Rummly · 16/04/2026 22:37

How about Peter Mandelson? Highly experienced, fantastic connections, great at interviews, has the common touch. A true exponent of Labour values and standards. 👍

👍🏻👍🏻

😂😂

Troika71 · 18/04/2026 18:15

Starmer is either a knave or a fool.

Who cares? He's the best man to lead the UK right now.

i'm sick of the 24 hour UK news cycle creating drama over nothing. The last thing the UK needs is another change of prime minister

You’re totally missing the point

OonaStubbs · 19/04/2026 12:43

He is not the best man to lead the UK right now or at any other time.

Velvetandleather · 19/04/2026 12:50

OonaStubbs · 19/04/2026 12:43

He is not the best man to lead the UK right now or at any other time.

No he’s not sadly. But I think he’s the best the Labour Party have to offer.

i think he means well. And as they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but he’s totally out of his depth, and too weak to stand up to his own party, and as much as he wants to do the right thing, ultimately he does what’s right for him, self preservation comes first for him. Which is I guess how he got to where he is. I think he knows how badly they’ve messed up and fucked the county.

as said though, if we need to endure labour for another three years, then I think he has to stay, because who comes next is going to be an awful lot worse. And I know that’s saying something and a low bar, but it’s where we are.

i don’t know what disasterous thing they will do next, or where this will end up, how bad it will get for us, ghey are still in there pretend blaming the tories for their every fuck up, and refusing to take responsibility, and I suspect in 3 years they will be doing the same thing.

at one point people will start to get even more angry, and it will boil over.

The thing we need to face though is we also risk farage coming in next, which will be just as bad, so this could be the decade that the uk wishes to forget.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 19/04/2026 14:32

EvieBB · 18/04/2026 15:34

What does that mean? Are you referring to Angela Rayners background? If so I see it as a positive that we have MPs from a variety of backgrounds.

Of course Boris never lied 😂😂😂

That's your standard? Not worse than Boris?
