To not believe Keir Starmer

Viviennemary · 16/04/2026 20:10

I'm sick of Keir Starmer's dodging over Peter Mandelson. He said he wasn't aware PM hadn't passed security vetting. He's been asked again and again about this. The knives are definitely out for him and I would be glad to see the back of him.

Just read on the news covering Olly Robbins's hearing. Of all the men and women working in politics and KS somehow manages to pick two potential paedophiles and know nothing about them?

Sir Olly also revealed that in March 2025, No 10 had asked him to look for a diplomatic job for Lord Doyle, Sir Keir Starmer’s disgraced former spin doctor, and to keep it a secret.
Lord Doyle was later suspended from the Labour Party over his links to a convicted paedophile.

OonaStubbs · 21/04/2026 17:40

Labour are in a right state. They need to clear the board and start again.

Papyrophile · 21/04/2026 21:51

But labour have no depth of talent right now. Their best option is probably Yvette Cooper/Mrs Ed Balls who will at least have a skilled operator to help out on the other side of the kitchen island.

Papyrophile · 21/04/2026 21:54

My constituency elected a Labour MP in 2024. She seems very sincere, but frankly a bit vacuous between the ears. She'll probably defect to the Green Party.

How long does everyone here give KS? I think he’ll be gone by 10 May.

I think you’re right. They’re only keeping him in as they’re too close to the elections now and he will be (rightly) blamed when they suffer a huge defeat.

I’m really disappointed as I had such high hopes for him and I thought he was sensible and intelligent enough to do a good job and be a good leader. Sadly though, I think he has very little political instinct and influence and also a bit of an ego, and I think those things will be his downfall.

Papyrophile · 22/04/2026 20:26

The local elections are going to be a bloodbath. But I prefer the (flawed) Starmer to the bonkers lefties in his party, and I really really hope that Reform and the Greens fail epically.

PropertyD · 22/04/2026 21:27

Greens are doing very well in the polling seeing as they are nuts!

I am genuinely interested as to why someone would vote for them? Starmer is truly awful. Massively out of his depth and never wrong.

I thought greens are caring for the planet.....why is it nuts to vote for them? Genuine question.

It used to be.

Now the Greens seem to have been overtaken by nutters and are preoccupied by:

  • pretending men can be women
  • antisemitism
  • legalising all drugs, for some reason
  • withdrawing from Nato (?!)

Not seen much from them about the environment

PropertyD · 22/04/2026 22:45

No landlords. State intervention into everything. Tax the billionaires etc. As a PP says where is the green policies.

They also seem to be cozying up to the Gaza issue

TooLittleTooLate2 · 22/04/2026 22:58

If the greens were still the party for the environment I would vote for them in an instant. They are nutters. Zack Polanlski used to make money by telling women he could hypnotise them to have larger breasts. WTF.

EvieBB · 22/04/2026 22:20

Because they've got some really weird policies which don't have a lot to do with saving planet earth.

TooLittleTooLate2 · 22/04/2026 23:01

But I think well meaning people will turn to them because they are still called the green party so without delving any deeper you would think that the environment would finally be prioritised. It's barely on the radar

PropertyD · 22/04/2026 23:11

Apparently they are likely to do well in the locals.

I think people will vote Green because they seem like the only fresh new option that people can vote for with a clear conscience.

The Greens are far from perfect, but in terms of the alternative parties to vote for, Reform have been dragged through the mud in most of the mainstream press - and rightly so - and the Tories and Labour are mired in so much infighting and incompetence.

Personally, I’d vote for Hannah Spencer (who won the recent Gorton and Denton by-election for the Greens) if she was my MP, as I think she’s really good, and I really liked Zach Polanksi’s conference speech last year.

Realistically though, I don’t think I’ll end up voting Green, as I’m not sure how realistic their policies are, and although I’m not Jewish, some of the stuff I’ve seen from them about antisemitism is quite scary and worrying.

OonaStubbs · 23/04/2026 02:12

Why can't we have a common-sense party for normal people? Why are the current crop of politicians so weird?

The Greens haven’t been ‘caring for the planet’ for a good while now. They’re neo-communists.

This is the trap many voters fall into.

Green Party? Must be caring and environmentally responsible.

They do have a green veneer, but underneath they are scarily militant in their beliefs and their beliefs are not very environmentally friendly.

He's toast. The cabinet are sharks out for blood The press are circling like a pack of hyenas. Its all great fun. I am waiting for his downfall. Horrible man sacking that nice Ollie Robbins who seems a really decent honest guy.

Edited

You’ve summed it up pretty well there.

ElsieMc · 23/04/2026 09:27

If the red flag in the vetting process and what PM failed on was not Epstein. What was it? Im afraid the highly anticipated skewering of Olly Robbins by Emily Thornberry did not happen and he came across as sincere. This has now led to more winesses being called including Olly's predecessor and Morgan McSweeney. Four people have now lost jobs over this debacle.

I think cabinet members are distancing themselves. Im referencing Ed Milliband's on GMTV here.

Viviennemary · 23/04/2026 10:14

Somebody being interviewed now. What a mealy mouthed question dodger. Not in her remit. Can't comment on this can't comment on that. Obvious whose side she's on.

@EvieBB Dr Jojes who is the Green candidate for Blackheath said ‘Nobody can deny that we need a revolution….’
Do you think we need a revolution? If so, you won’t be alone. I’ve read on here a few times posters saying ‘bring on the revolution, but when questioned as to what form this revolution would take, they don’t answer.
