To not believe Keir Starmer

I'm sick of Keir Starmer's dodging over Peter Mandelson. He said he wasn't aware PM hadn't passed security vetting. He's been asked again and again about this. The knives are definitely out for him and I would be glad to see the back of him.

What does that mean? Are you referring to Angela Rayners background? If so I see it as a positive that we have MPs from a variety of backgrounds.

Raynors issue isn’t hee background, if anything it’s in her favour. Raynors issue is she’s under investigation for tax fraud and also all her freebies.

What, a background in tax evasion, you mean?

No it's not about her background.....I also think that is a positive....it's about her attitude/personality/things she's said that make her rough

No he’s not sadly. But I think he’s the best the Labour Party have to offer.

i think he means well. And as they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but he’s totally out of his depth, and too weak to stand up to his own party, and as much as he wants to do the right thing, ultimately he does what’s right for him, self preservation comes first for him. Which is I guess how he got to where he is. I think he knows how badly they’ve messed up and fucked the county.

as said though, if we need to endure labour for another three years, then I think he has to stay, because who comes next is going to be an awful lot worse. And I know that’s saying something and a low bar, but it’s where we are.

i don’t know what disasterous thing they will do next, or where this will end up, how bad it will get for us, ghey are still in there pretend blaming the tories for their every fuck up, and refusing to take responsibility, and I suspect in 3 years they will be doing the same thing.

at one point people will start to get even more angry, and it will boil over.

The thing we need to face though is we also risk farage coming in next, which will be just as bad, so this could be the decade that the uk wishes to forget.

What has he done that's bad?
What did the conservatives do that was so good?
Sorry I'm not political at all .....just trying to understand.....as they all seem as bad as each other in my eyes so I've basically given up

Well if the recent articles on Tice are true ( I don’t know whether they are) it looks like he is saying “hold my beer”

MermaidofRye · 19/04/2026 19:08

He is either:

a) A liar
b) A gobshite
c) A mixture of the two

Whether it is a, b or c- when it is coupled with his nasal droning about how moral he and his party are-it makes a very unpleasant mixture.

I wonder what is going to happen at the trial of the two foreign gentlemen who set his property alight. It will be interesting to learn if it was motivated by an unpaid bill. Maybe the targeting of him was because they disagreed with his policy on the EU...maybe not.

He’s a weak, unprincipled individual, masquerading as a strong man.

The sooner he is gone, the better.

What has he done that’s bad?
Let’s count the scandals & terrible decisions:
Beergate
Sue Gray, Mandelson, McSweeney
CPS gangs and Southport cover ups
Lord Alli freebies
Chagos deal
Taking away winter fuel allowance from pensioners struggling to survive (I’m not against this in principle but he set the bar far too low)
Chinese donors
Chinese spy embassy
Jailing a woman for angry tweets whilst largely ignoring the rape gangs scandal (inquiry fell apart/parents ignored)

He’s been more furious at being caught out on THIS than he’s ever been about little girls being killed and raped. He’s an odious man, and anyone who says “oh he’s fundamentally decent/just weak” is wrong. He’s a narcissistic liar who will do and say anything to save his own skin.

Can you tell I regret voting Labour? 😂

Now its coming back to bite him he needs to do what he told Boris to do and resign.

Who cares? He's the best man to lead the UK right now.

i'm sick of the 24 hour UK news cycle creating drama over nothing. The last thing the UK needs is another change of prime minister

Yes agree. The press went after Angela Rayner (quite right she resigned) but nothing about Russian money linked to Reform, nothing more about Farage’s house in Clacton, the questionable moral practices of Richard Tice not wanting to pay his fair share of Corporation tax.

Also nothing about Steve Bannon and Nigel Farage plotting around Brexit which has made this country poorer. Farage is a traitor going on the record to ask Trump to sanction this country and then taking Russian money through Nathan Gill.

Kier Starmer isn’t a charismatic buffoon like Boris (hides in Fridges) but is a much better leader than Farage or Boris was. I do however wish that Labour was more Red Labour than blue at the moment.

So true. He’s an uncharismatic buffoon.

Labour used it to their advantage to get in, so they can’t be surprised it’s impacting them now.

Be interesting to see what this Ollie guy has got to say tomorrow. Then emergency debate in parliament to which KS might not come.

But Why would he risk his political career over Peter Mandelson? It doesn’t make any sense.

Mandelson's been around a long time and may well have plenty on him

And the ridiculous "nobody told me" rather overlooks that Mandelson probably told him exactly what was happening and how some were trying to block his appointment

i'm sick of the 24 hour UK news cycle creating drama over nothin

Edited to add I agree about the media's inclination to whip up drama, @Preppyprepper, but this is hardly "nothing" when it concerns someone who's already been in and out like a fiddler's elbow
Friend or not, trying to promote a creature like this yet again is a matter of judgement, and clearly Starmer lacks any

RareJoker · 21/04/2026 09:21

I think it’ll be out of his hands soon enough. If this huge scandal doesn’t displace him, the ensuing bloodbath at the forthcoming elections will.

Yes I noticed, EasternStandard. For me it stood out that they're said to have been dismissive of vetting being needed at all, which is utterly incredible in light of what even the public knew about Mandelson, but maybe they didn't want his many issues highlighting again

Unless the Whips already knew something and didn't want officials asking awkward questions / recording the findings ...

They didn't want any impediment to stop PM. He was already appointed before the security check. This makes KS seem like a slippery weasel anxious to throw anybody under the bus to save himself. He's a disgrace. Imho.

I'm not following how this vetting is being talked about as somehow optional?
Surely its 100% mandatory and rules are in place to cover it?

It definitely seems like the entire UK a lot of people knew that Mandelson was a bit iffy from the get-go. Then he got some checks and that iffyness ratcheted up. Then he got the full thing and they went "Woah! He's a total wrong'un, and we don't want him having keys to the allotment shed, let alone state secrets for the highest diplomatic position we have available".

And then poor, innocent and bewildered Kier Starmer, who somehow NEVER manages to be at fault or in the room or told the right information or given the facts or anything for the multiple fuckups under his leadership, was totally tricked by these evil dastardly plotters again.

As I said previously, I reckon there were a lot of questions that he knowingly and carefully chose not to ask, to maintain his incredible deniability. The "Lalalalalala I can't hear you" PM.

He's a liar by omission and his story is bullshit.
