To not believe Keir Starmer

I'm sick of Keir Starmer's dodging over Peter Mandelson. He said he wasn't aware PM hadn't passed security vetting. He's been asked again and again about this. The knives are definitely out for him and I would be glad to see the back of him.

And if Olly followed all due process why has he been sacked. Sounds like a case of unfair dismissal if it wasn't all bullsh*t

EasternStandard · 17/04/2026 19:19

TooLittleTooLate2 · 17/04/2026 19:12

Genuinely I don't think that is proof at all. That is the story concocted by the people involved. Unbelievable.

Yep and agree re unfair dismissal. He wasn’t even in post when Mandelson was appointed.

stuckdownahole · 17/04/2026 19:42

It just all sounds so implausibly convenient that it was a non-political civil servant to blame, and not Starmer or any other figure in the Labour government. Of course, it might have been something to do with Starmer's former chief adviser but we'll never know as he has coincidentally lost his phone.

This incident is related to Starmer's general unpopularity because if you are as sanctimonious as he is then people will take delight in trying to bring you down. I voted for him by the way.

Rummly · 17/04/2026 19:43

That is absolutely brilliant!

The residents of Pimlico, Islington, Richmond and elsewhere that the senior political and civil service folk live are putting out unattributed defences by the minute.

It’s cover your arse time in Labour land.

OonaStubbs · 17/04/2026 19:46

How can the Prime Minister use "I didn't know" as an excuse. It's his JOB to know.

TooLittleTooLate2 · 17/04/2026 19:46

And then you have this: https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/sacked-foreign-office-boss-fight-back-starmer-public-showdown-4362457. I guess it will all continue into next week. Another week when we need stability and progress. Not this. Starmer might be furious but I can tell him a lot of people are more so. It's shambolic.

Sacked Foreign Office boss to fight back against Starmer in public showdown

Olly Robbins will dispute No 10's version of events as Prime Minister fights for his job

Papyrophile · 17/04/2026 21:00

It's so inept, it should be funny.

Papyrophile · 17/04/2026 21:07

For heavens sake Sir Keir, I have tried to give you a fair start. I knew you were a civil servant. You are decent internationally, but your Front Bench is not up to the job, not one of them really fills their shoes adequately.

Oh yes because what the country needs is more instability.

So, following your false premise - a bent PM should remain in post?

luckylavender · 17/04/2026 21:12

xanthomelana · 16/04/2026 22:45

Preferably no one from Labour but if I had to pick I’d say Andy Burnham.

He can’t be PM currently. We’ve been through that.

Rayner?

Papyrophile · 17/04/2026 21:17

I don't think SKS is bent, at all, and I am a Tory. He's taken gifts he shouldn't have, but his job doesn't come with a guide. I (gulp) think he's doing a decent job. The Chancellor, rather less well.

ShakyBake · 17/04/2026 21:25

Preppyprepper · 16/04/2026 22:29

Who?
Bloody Russian-money taking swindler Farage?
zack 'breast hypnotist' Polanski who thinks men can be women?
another bloody Tory?

Starmer has handled the Iran war very well, and told Trump where to go. The press don't like him as he doesn't protect the interests of the rigth wing press barons.

Seriously who gives a shit about Peter Mandelson? He's gay, he wasn't even involved in any of the girl trafficking. It's all such a fuss about nothing. Are people really this stupid?

Oh, so just because it didn't involve the Epstein girls as Mandelson is gay is ok is it? Have you not heard the emerging rumours Epstein had some very vulnerable young men on his books too? The little philipino lad for example.

He's not called Peter not-many-candles-on for nothing you know

Rayner?

Too soon for Rayner I think. She hasn’t yet been fully exonerated for the tax issue.

Dollymylove · 17/04/2026 22:14

Rummly · 16/04/2026 22:37

How about Peter Mandelson? Highly experienced, fantastic connections, great at interviews, has the common touch. A true exponent of Labour values and standards. 👍

And as crooked as a nine bob note 🤣

Noodledog · 17/04/2026 22:21

I don't believe a word coming out of Starmer's mouth at the moment. He needs to show a bit of decency and stand down. And I'm saying that a Labour voter.

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/04/2026 22:32

I don’t believe him.

I think the whole appointment was fudged around giving Starmer plausible deniability. Either he knew & he’s lying, or he should have known but he structured things so he can now say he didn’t know.

or civil servants are choosing not to inform Foreign Sec and PM about the dodgy fucker being appointed to this massive role & FS/PM didn’t realise their appointee failed security reviews.

dont know what is worse.

of course there is no way the UK’s USA ambassadorship should have been given to the Dark Lord.

so why was Mandelson appointed ?

AlecTrevelyan006 · 17/04/2026 22:53

It's 'the dog ate my homework' level of lying. Quite embarrassing really.

Viviennemary · 17/04/2026 23:15

luckylavender · 17/04/2026 21:29

Rayner should never ever be allowed to be PM. She shouldn't even be an MP imho.⁵

I believe he's truthful in saying he wasn't officially notified Mandelson didn't pass security vetting.
He made the announcement before vetting completed, which was awkward for the Foreign Office, so they ignored/overuled.
Maybe Starmer did unofficislly know, but said, don't record I've been told.

Leedsfan247 · 18/04/2026 00:35

Of course Boris never lied 😂😂😂
