To not believe Keir Starmer

I'm sick of Keir Starmer's dodging over Peter Mandelson. He said he wasn't aware PM hadn't passed security vetting. He's been asked again and again about this. The knives are definitely out for him and I would be glad to see the back of him.

Either he didn't know, which means he's incompetent because it's his job to know. Or he did know and is now lying about it. Both are equally unacceptable from a PM. Keir Starmer needs to go.

Third option: he ordered staff not to tell him so he could claim innocence and blame somebody else.

Preferably no one from Labour but if I had to pick I’d say Andy Burnham.

I like Andy Burnham but i didnt think it was possible for him to be PM?

Tikitaka20 · 17/04/2026 12:00

senua · 17/04/2026 11:52

It was stated several times by the Foreign Office that appropriate vetting was carried out.
I think that we need to be wary with Starmer as he tends to employ a lawyer's weasel words. He implies things which encourages people to write their own narrative.
The above statement simply says that vetting was carried out. It carefully avoids mention of the outcome of that vetting.

All politicians do that, to be fair.

Greenwitchart · 17/04/2026 12:20

Are we supposed to believe that a civil servant decided to lie about the vetting and risk his career just to benefit Mandelson?

And that no one in government had a clue?

Really?

Indeed the PM/ministers are either lying or totally incompetent and have no idea of what is happening under their "leadership".

Either way they are not fit to govern.

deeahgwitch · 17/04/2026 12:39

I too don’t believe Mc Sweeney’s phone was stolen nor that a civil servant took it upon himself to risk his career and the PM’s job for no obvious reward
@ProudAmberTurtle and I too would like to know why so many powerful people seemingly risked so much to ensure Mandleson became US ambassador.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 17/04/2026 12:44

I think its possible that KS knew everything, and that was the exact reason PM was put in place in the US. He had an existing relationship with Trump via Epstein and that whole circle of ongoings (not just the girls, there was a lot of other shady shenanigans).

I think it was a strategic decision for the UK government to manage Trump that has obviously backfired on KS.

TooLittleTooLate2 · 17/04/2026 12:49

It is the stink around all of this that is the problem. So much for cleaning up politics

It isn't because he's not an MP. Labour had their chance at that by election. But they decided he might be too popular and threaten KS so wasn't allowed to stand. Selfish Idiots.

x2boys · 17/04/2026 13:24

It doesnt help that he was so sanctimonius about everything when he was just leader of the opposition.

singthing · 17/04/2026 13:26

As someone who sits at the very top of the tree, he is either inept at leading or a liar.

He can pick which, it doesn't really matter. He's whined "oooh no I didn't knoooowwwww!" too many times, how can you take him seriously anymore.

EDIT: There is a chain of command and a process. That should be followed till the break is located and that person needs to be identified and due process followed for them. SOMEONE is responsible, so if not KS, then find out who it was and hold them accountable. Although if I see mention of "lessons have been learned" I might lose it.

And they fed the Green Party by doing so.
So yes the Burnham menace dealt with, but the Green enabled to grow.

That’s the big one. Nobody likes a hypocrite. And Starmer’s a weapons-grade, industrial sized hypocrite. His sanctimony in opposition is truly laughable now.

Present Labour - not old Labour, or even New Labour under Blair - is a monument to nauseating hypocrisy.

Ikr someone going on about ‘inherited process’ rn.

Starmer is either grossly incompetent or a liar. When he made a statement in parliament about all due process being followed who do he check that with?

This is not the witty response you seem to think it is. Are you resorting to this childish nonesense because you are unable to come up with a clever response that might challenge my thinking, or are you just trolling (or pissed)

My goodness. Please stop. I'm a LP member & we really don't need posts like this, & your others.

I don't think the Greens will get very far. They might do OK in these May elections but they're small fry. The ones to watch are Reform.

The foreign Office were told apparently and privacy meant that Keir was not.

See, something really similar happened somewhere that I worked and privacy was also cited as the reason why people directly managing the individual were not told. The people who knew were the BossFolk who are based elsewhere and had likely never met the person.

When shit hit the fan, people assumed those closer the individual must have known, but they did not. That much was proven, but it still affects their reputation.

Apparently, when the papers were sent for Royal assent, the King attached a post-it note asking, "are you certain?" Probably apocryphal, but I'd like it to be true.

Another person planning to draw pictures on my ballot paper at the next GE! Unless someone starts to speak some sense.

I think that's wishful thinking on your part...Farage is losing ground while the greens keep growing their support.

This is very true. Though it’s debatable whether either the Green Party or Reform would convert their polling numbers into success at a general election. What they will do is split the Left and Right votes respectively.

The same thing will happen with the Greens.

The electorate will get their protest vote at the local elections, the Greens will fuck up the councils they win and then the political landscape will be rearranged again by the GE.

Genuinely I don't think that is proof at all. That is the story concocted by the people involved. Unbelievable.
