Violent children should be stopped regardless of other factors

The part that struck me about the Southport findings was the way AR seems to have been given leeway because he had an ASD diagnosis. Oh he’s carrying a knife and a hockey stick but he has ASD, as if that’s ok. It’s an attitude I have met a lot with my child school, where they and other children suffer from violence meted out but other children.

Oh but they have SEND / are in care / have a bad home-life as though that’s excuses my child being a victim. I really hope that one of the lessons learned by schools, police etc is to look at the threat or the violence and the danger to others, regardless of any ‘excuses’ the perpetrator might offer.

The plan is for more children to attend mainstream schools, not less. It isn't going to go well for anyone.

True. Not much about this though.

Yes that's going to be a disaster. Completely unfair on the children who aren't getting the help they need and on all the other children in the class who are getting their education disrupted. I don't get why the government won't open more state sen schools so there are enough for all the children who need them. Then they could stop paying extortionate fees for a minority of children with sen to attend private special schools and leaving huge numbers of the rest in unsuitable mainstream environments.

Because it costs a lot of money in one go. They can’t even be arsed to properly fund mainstream and with increased push for academies , they completely washed their hands off many schools.Of course, not having them costs 10000 times more long term, but that’ll be someone else’s problem. Plus , various governments have a handy scapegoat in teachers/schools.

Young offenders institute. Sectioned. Pupil Refferal Unit. All things which are currently being shied away from now on the basis of cost. People need to be protected. Money needs to be spent.

I agree, in my home town there used to be a school where children who were too disruptive/violent for mainstream school would eventually go (after numerous chances). I know that view is outdated now but what's the alternative? Keep demanding 1 to 1 support so they stay in mainstream school? Where does the money for this come from? Other children subjected to violence? Absolutely not

Cruel and counterproductive to let violent mentally ill people of any age roam free.

That’s a Pupil Referral Unit, and they still exist.

There’s only one per local authority where I am, and very few have a full primary department, because most exclusions are secondary.

But; they do exist.

Wondered when the T4 advocates would show their true face.
Fucking repellent and reported.

Don Marquis was a comic writer.

What’s T4?

Aktion T4 was the nazi program for mass murdering disabled people, including disabled children.

What about kids that have nothing wrong with them, that are just bad seeds?

IMO we need to stop making excuses for bad behaviour as it just exacerbates the problem.

@ChunkyMonkey36 That’s not a PRU. It was probably a EBD school
as we used to call them. In my local town, we still have a state run boarding school for such pupils. That really is what AR needed. Having said that, the pupils still get the holidays!

The other aspect of this is that he was in a PRU after being excluded from his first secondary school. It was the Head of the PRU who was referred to in the report as reporting her concerns on multiple occasions. His parents wanted him integrated back into mainstream but he barely attended. 0.7% over 2 years. That school eventually off rolled him just a few weeks before he murdered the DDs. He spent 2 years with no education and it seems his EHCP was not reviewed affectingly or amended. This is why nearly every professional and his parents were at fault. They saw AR as a victim. His parents argued that he was “a good boy”. The services he came into contact with passed the buck countless times.

If anyone has the time, read the timeline included in the Report 1. It’s a truly shocking read of mismanagement and excuses.
