With the following caveat, you must select one that you love, rather than for its worth etc.

At the moment, I would choose “Sketch of a Seated Cat” by Gwen John. ❤️

I change my mind all the time, but I think Drowning Girl by Lichtenstein has always been a piece I have coveted.
I’d also like Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy by David Hockney & for something less modern I’d adore to hang The Truth Coming out of Her Well to Shame Mankind by Jean-Léon Gérôme

A Rothko. I haven't decided which one.
One of the orange/red ones

But I have to say, I love the pp's artwork of the silk with the scarf hanging over it! Who is the artist, please?

Death of Ophelia by Sir John Everett Millais- absolute gothic masterpiece!!!

I remember when I first saw this, in a library book around age 7, and it blew me away that a human could paint like this.

The real thing did not let me down when I saw it at the Tate.

Cornelia Parker’s Cold Dark Matter. I’d need a big room but I absolutely love it.

I'd have "The Bride", a carved bust by Raffaele Monti - here is a picture of a cast made from it, in the Fitzwilliam Museum. I'm always astounded how it is possible to carve solid stone to appear transparent! The Fitzwilliam Museum - The Bride: C.7-1969

Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose

John Singer Sargent

Wow. I haven’t seen that one before, it’s so pretty.

I love Madam X, which is also my John Singer Sargent. I find its lore interesting too.

I love a lot of pieces of famous arts however for the sake of keeping in what I feel you are are intending op I have to say I own it.

Its a Linda Charles abstract. I feel in love with it about 15 years ago where it hung in A craft shop I frequented. I used to tell the Owner "one day I will purchase that piece from You I just love it" (she was an x gallery owner)

She had to close the shop due to ill health and when they did the close down Sale she offered me the piece at a heavilly reduced rate paid over 2 months. So I called dh who said do it (despite him never having seen this piece and I was spending a lot) when I collected it and thanked her she said. "I did it because I believe everyone should have a piece of art they love on their walls"

Dh loves it as does the children. I still love it 15 years on and it makes me smile each time I look at it..
I think this owner was right. Everyone should have a piece of art on their walls they love.

...and now I cannot stop looking at this. Incredible!

Cold Dark Matter would be very tempting as it's one of my favourites. Unfortunately I don't have a massive spare room to house it.

But I think I'd go for Artemisia Gentileschi's self portrait or Georgia O'Keefe's Black Iris

anything by Shelby and sandy.

Moonlight by Paul Klee

Ahmi in Egypt by Agnes Pelton

Whistlejacket by Stubbs. We saw it when we were on holiday in London, it's absolutely stunning.

And since I'm greedy, I'd like a sculpture too please - the tremendous glass fountain one by Dale Chihuly that's in Atlantis The Palm in Dubai. I could have looked at that for hours. (I would have to remove not only the ceiling but also the roof to fit it in to my house though.)
